The cast of characters are:

  • Chloe. A single mother who used to be a teenage runaway and is afraid her daughter might turn out the same.
  • Mel. A former escort and later shareholder of 232, as well as a former lover of Nat's father.
  • Tippi. An orphan and aspiring writer with an interest in the spiritual.
  • Heather. Struggles to come to terms with her profession as she's trying to get pregnant and come to terms with her bisexuality.

Tropes

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Nat rarely shows any emotion in the first series, but after her father dies she begins to open up a bit more. Her moments with Sean also bring out her vulnerable side.
  • Dominatrix: Heather specialises in this, likely because she's a female-oriented bisexual and trying to get pregnant, which would get in the way of conventional sex work.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Tippi is killed by a loan shark.
  • End of an Age: The Series 3 finale. Aside from 3 of the original cast being Put on a Bus, Lauren has considered going back to administration after her drinking overtakes her life, Mel adopts a baby and is planning to go travelling, Nat plans to go back to her roots and Sean is planning to take a hiatus.
  • High-Class Call Girl: A show all about them.
  • Hookers and Blow: Mostly avoided, but Amy gets on the drugs shortly after joining 232 which causes her to make some seriously bad choices.
  • Hooker With A Heartof Gold: All the escorts are this, with Amy being the occasional exception. They all look out for each other and go out of their way to connect with their clients.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Heather, though technically she's a bisexual who just happens to skew towards women.
  • Puton A Bus: Both Chloe and Heather retire from sex work at the end of Series 2.
  • Single Mom Stripper: Chloe has a daughter, works as a high-class call girl and has a boyfriend but hasn't committed to marriage yet. Lauren eventually becomes this as well after becoming an escort and deciding she's had enough of her husband taking her for granted. Mel adopts a child in the final episode.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Amy turns out to be the least professional out of all the escorts. She takes drugs, hangs out with shady figures, was complicit in vandalising a car and assaults a client when he gives her a love bite, as opposed to just calling security on him.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Sean takes an interest in Nat early on and she doesn't push him away even when he gives her reason to. They get together at the end of Series 2, but by Series 3 they decide to keep things open and it's left ambiguous if they'll stay together.
