Script / Batman Unchained

Go To

Batman Unchained, also known as Batman Triumphant, is the unproduced fifth movie in the Batman Film Series.

It was intended to be a sequel to Batman & Robin, but the poor reception of the movie led to the Batman film series ending with that installment. As such, the script for Batman Unchained written by Mark Protosevich (under Joel Schumacher's direction) is one of the few things that remains of it.

The plot for it would have taken place one year after Batman's battle against Mr. Freeze and seen him going up against the Scarecrow, a mentally unstable scientist who's joined forces with Harley Quinn.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Job Change: In most sources, Harley Quinn was a psychologist before becoming a supervillain, but here she's a toymaker.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Harley Quinn is typically depicted as the (wannabe) lover of the Joker, but here she's his daughter.
  • Avenging the Villain: Harley Quinn's motive for going after Batman is to avenge the Joker.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: The main villains of the movie would have been the Scarecrow and Harley Quinn.
  • Darker and Edgier: Compared to the previous two Schumacher films, this installment appears to have been intended to be much darker, with the storyline involving Batman grappling with the trauma the Joker inflicted on him.
  • Grand Finale: Seems to have been intended to be this, revisiting the plot of the first film and involving Batman finally prevailing over his past demons.
  • Legion of Doom: Sort of. One scene would have involved dead villains from past films (the Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman, Two-Face and the Riddler) appearing in a fear toxin-induced hallucination of Batman's to put him on trial.
