  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • Ella and Etta Césaire appear at the end of "Lady Wifi," wearing the masks that Marinette made for them.
    • Pun not intended, but at the end of "Mr. Pigeon," Marianne Lenoir makes an appearance, showing Xavier Ramier a pigeon sanctuary and secretly scouting him out as a potential Miraculous holder.
    • Luka Couffaine makes a brief faceless cameo at the end of "Reflekta."
    • Ondine arrives with Kim to watch his race with Alix in "Timebreaker"; Kim comments that he wanted at least one person there he could count on to cheer him on.
  • Easily Forgiven: Lampshaded during "The Mime." After Chris admits to his sabotage, Fred gently covers his hands while Bishie Sparkles and Love Bubbles glitter behind them. Mylene looks just as bubbly as her father, while Ayla looks incredibly confused.
Alya: Wow... what a forgiving guy!
  • Elephant in the Living Room: It's revealed that many of the students long ago realized Mme. Bustier's shortcomings, particularly her refusal to discipline Chloé. However, prior to Marinette giving Mme. Bustier a "The Reason You Suck" Speech, they were all afraid of bringing it up due to the latter's reputation as the "nice" teacher.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: In "Vanisher," a shadowy intruder enters Chloé's room and says, "You won't see this one coming, Chloé," followed by an evil laugh. It's the titular villain, with the hexagonal-shaped head outline being due to the author's redesign of the akuma. The author says, "there's a short mystery so I hope you'll look at the clues!"
  • Empowered Badass Normal: In "Reflekta," Marinette goes from Badass Bystander to full-blown superhero when Plagg transfers the ring from the incapacitated Adrien to her.
  • Enemy Mine: Defied. When Marinette reveals she hates Scarlet Lady, Volpina is visibly excited, but Marinette makes it abundantly clear that she hates Hawkmoth more before the akuma can even propose an alliance.
  • Engineered Heroics: Hinted at in "Reflekta"; after trapping Juleka in the bathroom, Chloé thinks to herself that she'll be lucky if this gets her akumatized, as it means that she'll get to 'show off as Scarlet Lady'.
  • Entitled Bastard:
    • Chloé believes that she's entitled to Paris's love and affection despite not really doing anything to earn it.
    • Max is akumatized due to feeling he should be the one going to the Ultimate Mecha Strike III tournament instead of Marinette despite losing to her (and Adrien) fair and square in tryouts. He does have a Jerkass Realization about it afterwards, though.
    • Bob Roth blames Kitty Section for not letting him copy them.
    • Nadja declares that Chat Noir and Marigold have to "admit the truth" about their speculated relationship during her live broadcast.
    • Because of her reputation as the world's harshest fashion critic, Audrey Bourgeois believes she deserves to always get her way. In particular, she expects Gabriel to cater to all her requests when she attends his fashion show in "Style Queen," including by providing a marble red carpet.
  • Entertainingly Wrong:
    • In "The Bubbler," Hawkmoth expresses respect for Scarlet Lady staying out of the fight, believing that she hung back in order to protect her earrings. As opposed to her just... not caring about all the guests being endangered.
    • In "Princess Fragrance," Marinette sees Chloé with Tikki and believes that Chloé stole Tikki from Scarlet Lady (whom Marinette thinks irresponsibly lost her), not considering that the two might actually be the same person.
    • In "Sapotis," after witnessing Scarlet Lady's more unpleasant side in the previous episode, Alya thinks that since there have been multiple Ladybug heroes throughout history, the one she saw at Chloé's party was actually someone else.
  • Epic Fail:
    • In "Stormy Weather," Scarlet Lady attempts to throw her yo-yo at the titular akuma... only to have it land barely a meter away from her. Chat Noir struggles not to crack up laughing.
    • Upon presenting his film to Mayor André at the end of "Horrificator," Nino is promptly told to Get Out! of the mayor's office, with his entry not even making it past the first round of the contest. He then wonders if that was because the movie was unedited and had no plot, characters, or story. Adrien snickers as Nino realizes this.
    • In "Gamer," Nino's score is so low that Max wonders if it's the former's first time playing. Nino says he's just boosting numbers.
Nino: Dude, I'm only playing to boost numbers. Ain't nobody here for this tournament.
    • Scarlet Lady immediately gets KO'ed trying to pilot the mecha in a fight against Gamer.
    • In "La Befana," Chloé tries to ruin Marinette's birthday party by hiding the gifts in a bush and unplugging the electronics needed for the music. The gifts are so poorly hidden that Sabrina easily recovers them, and she later just replugs everything back.
    • Jagged Stone tries to sneak aboard the Liberty for Luka and Juleka's birthday party without Anarka knowing…after parking his tour bus on the dock.
  • Especially Zoidberg: When Roger tells Xavier that feeding the pigeons is forbidden as a health and safety hazard, Mr. Ramier replies, "But not for me, right?" Roger just snaps, "Especially for you!"
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • The very first scene in the comic is Chloé fuming over Marinette standing up to her, then slipping her hand in the latter's purse and stealing what she assumes to be a precious family heirloom.
    • Jalil's introduction in "The Pharaoh" has him rudely shoving Alya out of his way without sparing so much as a glance towards her as he hurries towards his father.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Scarlet Lady never figures out how to use her Lucky Charm object against the villain on her own. It's up to Marinette (if she's there) or Chat Noir to come up with a plan (and he oftentimes just throws it at the akuma). There were exceptions in "Rogercop" and "Darkblade," but the author says, "Don't get used to it."
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Surprisingly, despite being a sociopath, Chloé/Scarlet Lady does have these:
      • She hates Incredibly Lame Puns, particularly if they're as bad as the ones Chat Noir makes.
      • As much as she doesn't care about who gets hurt by an akuma, even she's disturbed by Animan trying to eat Kim just because the teen claimed to be able to outrun than a panther.
      • Despite her Lack of Empathy and Kick the Dog tendencies, Scarlet Lady actually feels some secondhand embarrassment for Prime Queen when the akuma falls for the Schmuck Bait that the heroes had set up. While she does say that it's embarrassing that the plan worked, it's clear she gets no joy from making fun of such a brain-dead move.
      • Seeing Audrey act so Out of Character while brainwashed by Malediktator creeps even Scarlet out.
    • Hawkmoth is often times quite miffed and/or concerned when his akumatized victims display Skewed Priorities while at other times being sympathetic when they make a fair point related to their akumatization:
      • Because Chloé is such an awful person, he usually allows anyone with a personal grudge against her some slack by letting them torment her first before prioritizing the Miraculous.
      • Being a fashion mogul, he outright agrees with Aurore that Mireille's pajama ensemble is unprofessional.
      • Théo's obsession with Scarlet Lady (who everyone can tell is underage) gives even Hawkmoth pause, the villain wrongly assuming the sculptor's significantly older than her.
      • He finds plagiarism distasteful, as shown by his unimpressed expression when he notices that Chloé and Marinette have entered the same hat into the design contest. When Marinette proves that it was Chloé who copied her, Gabriel and Nathalie waste no time disqualifying Chloé and banning her from all future contests, with "Ikari Gozen" showing that he fully intends on enforcing the ban. Adrien even attempts to exploit this trait of his father's in "Silencer" by informing Gabriel through Nathalie of Bob Roth stealing from Kitty Section to try and help his friends.
      • Hawkmoth finds Jalil's ramblings and obsession with proving his (gravely misinformed) theories regarding Egyptology grating, just like Jalil's family does, and he's quick to complain about having to deal with teenage hormones.
      • While he was already planning on "akumatizing the s**t out of someone" for Adrien's rebellious streak, even he is disgusted by the mayor's abuse of power in "Rogercop," disliking how the mayor fired Roger on the whims of a spoiled child.
      • Although he akumatizes him into Gamer all the same, Hawkmoth finds Max's monomaniacal dislike of Marinette beating him to be excessive (he even points out to Max that he was beaten by two people).
      • In "Simon Says," he comes to lose a great deal of respect in Scarlet Lady, whom he once considered a Worthy Opponent, due to her bossy attitude, Skewed Priorities, and sense of entitlement to his son. While Gabriel briefly considers taking advantage of Scarlet Lady's interest in his son, when he brings up the subject with Adrien, he readily accepts his son's rejection of the idea. It is also Played for Laughs in the fact that Gabriel is relieved that Adrien also doesn't like her at all.
      • He agrees with Lila that Scarlet Lady is a terrible hero and very quickly finds her akumatized form, Volpina, one of his favorites to date.
      • Whenever he akumatizes someone from outside of Paris, he at least takes the time to explain himself instead of just taking control of them.
      • While he's still an asshole, he seems to treat Nooroo and Nathalie much better than Chloé treats Tikki and Sabrina. He actually shares meals with the two, lets Nathalie Dope Slap him without consequences for attacking her as Collector, and doesn't blame them for things going wrong.
      • Even he's shocked that Animan wants revenge on a teen for claiming to be able to outrun a panther.
      • During Puppeteer's akumatization, he's actually gentler since it's a little girl he's working with. For her sake, he goes along with her mentality and makes a small effort to comfort her when she inevitably gets overwhelmed (more like using a broom to brush a cat's back, but the thought is there). While he's not going to be winning any Father of the Year trophies, it's better than being the absent and controlling Archnemesis Dad he's been in both canon and this AU.
      • Hawkmoth is weirded out by Vincent's obsession with Jagged Stone, mentioning how glad he is to have kept Adrien home for so long. He still exploits it to create the akuma Pixelator, though.
    • Downplayed when Stormy Weather traps Manon in ice but only puts a dome of ice around her and the Gorilla rather than freezing the little girl in a solid block like she did Alya and Vincent.
    • Played for Laughs when even Stormy Weather finds Chat Noir's bad puns unbearable. Evillustrator later expresses the same sentiment and decides to leave rather than put up with them.
    • When Rose confronts Reflekta and begs her to stop, the akuma doesn't do anything to her (though this may be more because Rose is her girlfriend).
    • Volpina is shocked when Scarlet Lady doesn't care about the former's threat to make a building collapse and says that she can just bring back anyone inside who got hurt after defeating Volpina. The akuma responds that Scarlet Lady "really [is] a villain" and echoes the sentiment again when Scarlet Lady tells her to go ahead and drop Adrien.
    • La Befana calls Scarlet Lady out on her cowardice, claiming that she is going to turn her to coal for it (by contrast, she was going to turn Chat into an angel).
    • Evillustrator had every intention of keeping his promise to not harm Chloé up until Marinette broke her end of the agreement by betraying him.
    • While it helps with messing with Chloé, Vanisher "vanishes" Chloé's clothing and accessories so the latter won't be running around naked. She also focuses on only Chloé and doesn't "vanish" any innocent people.
    • Nathalie immediately scolds Hawkmoth for swearing while psychically linked to Vanisher, who is only a teenager.
  • Every Man Has His Price: The Gorilla turns out to have one—in "Party Crasher," the guys successfully bribe him with action figures to get him to allow them to join Adrien while keeping the girls out.
  • Everybody Knew Already: Near the end of "Crocoduel," Anarka and Jagged awkwardly try to dance around telling Juleka that the latter is her father, only to learn that the entire city knows now and that Juleka in particular (along with Luka) has always been aware of it. Somewhat justified, since Anarka and Jagged couldn't have remembered blurting out their secret for all of Paris to hear while akumatized.
  • Everyone Can See It: Adrien's crush on Marinette is quite evident to others. Even Master Fu playfully refers to her as "the girl you love" in front of Adrien.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Mayor Bourgeois is a Sleazy Politician who frequently abuses his position to indulge his daughter. Nevertheless, he does occasionally come off as a Reasonable Authority Figure:
      • He's rightfully horrified when Stoneheart throws Marinette from the Eiffel Tower and stunned that Scarlet Lady doesn't seem to care.
      • Hearing Théo gush about the visibly teenage Scarlet Lady creeps Mayor André out and stirs his protective instincts. He later goes out of his way to erect barriers to keep the crowd away from the young superheroine during the statue unveiling. His concern turns out to be unfounded, as it's revealed Théo is around the same age as Marinette and the rest of her class.
      • Though he temporarily fired Roger (which is actually outside the scope of his authority) for refusing to break the law to search Marinette for Chloé's missing bracelet, once it's determined that Marinette really didn't steal it, Mayor Bourgeois forces Chloé to apologize to Marinette for wrongly accusing her of theft.
      • He greets Cheng Shifu with almost Japanese Politeness even though the latter is set to be a contestant in a competition that the mayor will be helping judge, meaning he wouldn't gain anything from this.
      • He removes Chloé from the judging panel in "Kung Food" after video footage of her sabotaging Wang Cheng's soup emerges. Even he can't ignore that level of irrefutable evidence of his daughter's wrongdoing.
      • André Bourgeois goes to great lengths to indulge his daughter Chloé's various whims, sometimes even overstepping the limits of his authority as the Mayor of Paris. However, even he is shocked by Chloé's level of pettiness in wanting her half-sister who's just arrived in Paris banished from the city simply for not knowing who Scarlet Lady is, and he refuses to attempt something as blatantly illegal as shutting down an entire school and exiling a teenager from the Paris.
      • It's implied he will not mistreat his stepdaughter Zoé, not even for his daughter's sake: "Malediktator" sees him try to talk Chloé into working things out with her half-sister instead of offering to send Zoé back to New York.
    • Despite Sabrina being Chloé's "best friend" and lackey, both Nino and Rose rush to check on her near the end of "The Bubbler" after Chloé brains her with Sabrina's own tablet and escort her to the nurse.
    • Even when she was Chloé's loyal lackey, Sabrina showed reservations about Chloé's bullying behavior:
      • Chloé's actions in "Lady Wifi" leave Sabrina confused and upset. As she admits to Kim, getting Alya in trouble was one thing, but getting her suspended...? That caught her completely off-guard.
      • In "Mr. Pigeon," Chloé declares she'll win the contest with her own original designs and that Adrien was only complimenting Marinette's work because he was being nice. She then promptly orders Sabrina to steal Marinette's sketchbook (clearly intending to use them herself and knowing they are good enough to win with). The sheer hypocrisy of it all jars even Sabrina.
      • Sabrina is disappointed (albeit unsurprised) when Chloé declares that she plans on winning the class representative race by ruining her opponent rather than running a good campaign.
      • Though she still goes through with sneaking into Marinette's room for blackmail material, Sabrina clearly feels guilty about taking advantage of Sabine's trust (with tears even welling in her eyes) when the woman gives her a bag of cookies as a pick-me-up.
    • Mme. Bustier generally turns a blind eye to most of the bad behavior that occurs in front of her (usually Chloé's), but she does occasionally speak up:
      • Even she declares that Mayor Bourgeois trying to illegally confiscate Nino's phone is unsightly behavior.
      • She disappointedly asks Chloé if she had tried to bribe her classmates for their votes after Chloé makes an Accidental Public Confession.
      • She is willing to put her foot down and scold her class for trying to purposely exclude one of their classmates. Unfortunately, the only time she's done this was to force them to invite Chloé to Marinette's birthday party, which wasn't even being held at school.
    • Adrien angrily chews Lila out for stealing Gabriel's book from him and then using it to try and trick him into thinking she's a superhero. Nevertheless, he gets no joy from seeing Scarlet Lady throw Lila into a fountain immediately afterwards, even calling the heroine out on it. Alya does much the same, though she begrudgingly admits Scarlet is right that Lila had to be exposed to protect her from Hawkmoth.
    • Played for Laughs in "Pixelator": as much as Adrien and Alya dislike the idea of working the front desk alongside Chloé, they'd both still gladly take that over dumpster diving.
    • Adrien might view Luka as a love rival for Marinette, but when he sees Chloé clinging to a visibly uncomfortable Luka in "Guitar Villain," he doesn't hesitate to tell her to leave Luka alone.
    • André the ice cream man looks confused and alarmed when Chloé shows up and latches onto Adrien's arm in "Intermission 2" and is clearly at a loss over how to respond to her.
    • XY has no qualms about copying other artists' works, but even he doesn't seem to approve of Bob Roth physically grabbing Marinette when threatening her to keep quiet about the plagiarism.
    • As much as Marigold hates Scarlet Lady, they are still shocked by Aspik pushing the Ladybug heroine into the path of Desperada's attacks.
    • Rose doesn't hesitate to get violent in "Sandboy" to protect her friends, but she's horrified by the prospect of having to fight an akumatized child.
    • In "Frozer," while Philippe is desperate to sign someone up for his skating lessons so his rink will be saved, he backs off from Rose when she mentions she has health troubles. He also eventually concedes that he can't force the teens present to sign up for lessons when they've all made it clear they aren't interested.
    • When Lila saves Adrien from Frightningale, they tell him that they don't care that the two of them don't like each other; they don't want anyone to get hit by an akuma.
    • Zoé doesn't like that her mother is so mean to everyone, but she does not approve of Audrey being brainwashed by Malediktator into being a nice person.
    • Audrey Bourgeois is an Entitled Bitch who habitually attempts to dole out Disproportionate Retribution for even the slightest perceived offense. However, she still respects and admires genuine talent in fashion like Marinette's. Conversely, she's unimpressed by her daughter Chloé claiming to be exceptional without the accomplishments to back that up.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • Despite being an awful hero and treating him poorly, Scarlet Lady doesn't understand why Chat Noir hates her or why he refuses to call her by her real name.
    • Chloé gets hit with this in "Reflekta" when she can't understand why Sabrina won't make up for her weird behavior (read: getting fed up by Chloé's antics) by helping her prevent another picture from being taken.
    • Scarlet Lady is confused over Chat Noir and Marigold not wanting to sink Captain Hardrock's ship due to the fact she has hostages because they'll just come back with the Cure, not seeming to get that they wouldn't want people to drown even if they would be safe in the end.
  • Evil Is Petty: Chloé "Scarlet Lady" Bourgeois and Gabriel "Hawkmoth" Agreste are by far the pettiest characters among the cast:
    • Chloé Bourgeois/Scarlet Lady:
      • She kicks in the AU by stealing the box containing the Ladybug Miraculous from Marinette because she talked back to her.
      • She snaps a picture of Alya looking inside Marinette's locker in "Lady Wifi" and goads the principal into suspending Alya for a whole week purely because she's angry over the very idea that Alya thought Marinette could be Scarlet Lady instead of her.
Chloé: Too bad your friend Marinette isn't Scarlet Lady... or she might have saved you.
      • Like in canon, Chloé demands her father fire Roger Raincomprix in "Rogercop" just because the police officer said she might have misplaced her bracelet rather than immediately (and illegally) arrest Marinette.
      • Rose mentions in "Darkblade" that Chloé threatened to prevent her from doing scrapbooking at her school club if she tried to run for class representative. In addition, Chloé has Sabrina steal Marinette's diary in the same episode to score a cheap shot on Marinette.
      • In "The Gamer," she trips Marinette as Scarlet Lady and then leads the akuma to her and Chat Noir, hoping the akuma will kill Marinette, all because the latter was spending the afternoon with Adrien.
      • She locks up Juleka in the bathroom and then refuses to let the class photo deleted so another can be taken with Juleka because the first photo has her standing next to Adrien—even though it shows Adrien roughly pushing Chloé off of him.
      • "Timebreaker" sees her snatching Alix's pocket watch out of Adrien's hand and then tossing it right onto the racetrack as Alix is passing, simply because Alix knocked her out of the way earlier while pointing out Chloé wasn't even invited to watch the race.
      • In "Volpina," because Lila claimed she was friends with Scarlet Lady, the Ladybug heroine subjects Lila to a Humiliation Conga by calling her a liar (even though Adrien had already told Lila he knows about her lies) and then sending her spinning into a fountain, which results in Lila catching a cold later due to it being the middle of winter. In fact, this is also what Adrien uses to Pull the Thread on that lie: as he puts it, there's no way Scarlet Lady could have saved Lila personally because Scar never tries to save anybody.
      • When she finds out in "Kung Food" that Wang Cheng is Marinette's great uncle, she decides to sabotage the man's entry in the World's Greatest Chef contest.
      • "La Befana" has her cry Crocodile Tears to Mme. Bustier to get her teacher to force the class to invite her to the party they refused to tell her about. When she learns to her disgust that the party is actually to celebrate Marinette's birthday, she attends just so she can ruin it. She later thoroughly enjoys watching La Befana attack everyone at Marinette's party and turn them into coal or fairies and refuses to help. Finally, she points out to La Befana that Chat Noir is escaping with Marinette and ends up leading the akuma to the Eiffel Tower, where Chat Noir hid Marinette (though it's possible the last instance was just her being careless while fleeing the akuma rather than outright spiteful).
      • She's also the one that files the noise complaint in "Captain Hardrock"—but she does it before a single note has been played and only because she was refused entry on the Liberty after trying to invite herself. She even rides there with in Officer Raincomprix's police van so she could ensure everybody knows she's responsible for their concert being shut down.
      • Due to Rose being Innocently Insensitive while asking her to deliver a letter to Prince Ali in "Princess Fragrance," Chloé gleefully rips the letter up in front of her classmate.
      • She calls the fire department to interrupt the bakery lesson at the beginning of "Despair Bear" for little reason other than out of boredom (and because it was Marinette's father who was giving it).
      • She ruins Marinette's gift for Mme. Bustier in "Zombizou" after Marinette mocked her for not having a heart.
      • She slaps Marigold's top out of her hands in "Gorizilla" since she wants to be the only one to rescue Adrien.
      • In "Frozer," she has her father close down Philippe's ice rink just to ruin Adrien and Marinette's first date.
      • She browbeats her father into canceling Clara's music video shoot in "Frightingale" because the video wasn't going to feature Scarlet Lady at all.
    • Gabriel Agreste/Hawkmoth:
      • He gives Nino a horribly garish outfit in "The Bubbler" because Nino called his civilian identity "geriatric" during akumatization.
      • When Mylène snarks back at him in "Horrificator" during akumatization, he renders her akuma incapable of human speech.
      • Adrien snarkily implies in "Rogercop" that he'll ruin his diet by helping himself to the free croissants in response to Gabriel breaking his promise to show up for Career Day. His father's response?
Hawkmoth: Oh, I'm akumatizing the s**t out of someone now.
      • Gabriel arbitrarily decides to go back on his word and refuses to let Adrien go to the concert on the Liberty in "Captain Hardrock"... pretty much just because he can, though he claims it's because his son failed to impress him with his piano playing.
    • Max gets really angry that Marinette beat him, completely disregarding that it was both her and Adrien. Hawkmoth even points it out when Max gives his Motive Rant.
Hawkmoth: Didn't you lose to two people...?
    • Officer Roger is far from evil, but while listing off all of Anarka's supposed infractions, he outright says that he's charging her both for his seasickness (while he's standing on the dock) and "cuz I can!"
    • Everyone (even Hawkmoth and Scarlet Lady) is in disbelief that Animan wants to eat Kim just because the teen claimed to be able to outrun a panther.
  • Exact Words:
    • At the end of "Timebreaker," Kim thinks he'll just have to "go one month of no dares" since it's December but Max reminds him that the terms of the bet that he lost is that he can't dare anyone to do anything for the rest of the school year.
    • In "Guitar Villain," when the titular villain makes his appearance, Chloe calls for Luka and Adrien to get her out of there. They comply by shoving her into an elevator.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags:
    • Adrien naturally develops visible bags under his eyes after stretches of dealing with akuma and other issues effectively by himself. According to the author, he uses concealer to help hide them.
    • Marinette has eye bags in "Vanisher" after she stayed up all night so she could draw attention away from her identity as Marigold by making bee-themed accessories and pretending her Miraculous is one of them.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!:
    • Nino laments at the end of "Horrificator" how the class's entry into the film festival didn't even make it past the first round. He then wonders if it was because it was unedited... and had no plot... or characters... or story. His friends snicker as it dawns on him.
    • Near the end of "Captain Hardrock," Adrien and Luka both start praising Marinette in front of the other. After Luka calls her "cute," Adrien begins to say, "Gorgeo—," before finally realizing he now has a love rival.
    • In "Frozer," Chat Noir tells Marigold that he will ask who he thinks is her civilian identity out on a date. When Plagg asks Adrien about this, we get this exchange:
Adrien: I get a date with Marinette even if she's not Marigold.
Plagg: So, what if Goldilocks is wrong about who you are?
Adrien: Well clearly that means Marigold will go out with some other guy-
Adrien: OH. She will go out with some other guy.
