Ongoing wick checks:

TRS to-do list

    Completed wick checks/OPs

No wick check or OP yet
  • Nintendo Hard: Repeatedly brought up as a YMMV move candidate. Will eventually wick check this to see if it should be brought in. TNTRS says there are other problems too. Needs Help. Check 75 wicks—maybe collaboratively.
  • Badass Adorable: A bigger project than others. Suspected of being "badass + adorable" along with being a subjective non-YMMV trope. Needs Help. Will do this one later due to a larger wick count—may need to be collaborative as it's 85 wicks.
  • Worldbuilding: May be an Omnipresent Trope as discovered by a Trope Talk thread. Needs Help. Check 50 wicks.
  • 12-Episode Anime: Written like a Useful Notes page as a Trope Talk thread discovered, possibly too common, may also need an index or D-O conversion. Needs Help. Check 50 wicks.
  • Hunk: ZCE magnet, suffers shoehorning for any character tropers find attracting. Courtesy of the Appearance Tropes Cleanup. (Currently unsure of what category this goes in). 50 wick check ongoing.
  • Good Bad Bugs: According to Tropes Needing TRS, it combines "funny bugs" and "exploitable bugs" and conflates the existence of the bugs with the opinion of the player base about them. May be a tough wick check but will be done eventually. Unclear Description. Check 59 wicks.
  • Accidental Aesop: Per TNTRS, intended for a positive aesop not intended by the creator interpreted by the audience, but misused instead for unintended bad aesops along with overlap examples with Warp That Aesop and Alternate Aesop Interpretation. TNTRS entry suggested a Word of God requirement and Trivia move, like Creator's Apathy (formerly They Just Didn't Care). Misused. Check 50 wicks.
  • Virtual YouTuber: Formatted with a trope list and list of VTubers, yet in Main. TNTRS suggested a UN move. Really a Useful Note. If checked, 50 wicks need checking.
  • Ouija Board: As TNTRS says, "Ouija boards exist" isn't a trope but there are tropable concepts in Ouija Board. Not Tropeworthy. Check 50 wicks.
  • Later-Installment Weirdness: A Trope Talk thread indicated that the concept behind this may not be worth documenting, as works can change and "later installment weirdness" can stop being weird. Other tropes also already cover this concept. Needs Help. Check 50 wicks.
  • Spectacular Spinning: A TRS meta thread comment a while back brought up that this trope may have example overlap with Spin Attack along with attracting ZCEs. Not Tropeworthy. Check 50 wicks. May need an index conversion as was suggested.
  • Just Eat Gilligan: A Trope Talk thread indicated that the trope suffers from a poor name, unclear definition, and possible duplication with The Millstone. Unclear Description. Check 50 wicks.
  • Villain Killer: Trope Talk discussion, may have misuse for any character who kills a lot of enemies, even if that isn't a character trait per se. Noted that the trope is confusing. Rename suggested. Misused. Check 50 wicks.
  • Look on My Works, Ye Mighty, and Despair: Per this, suffers from poor title and image, possible misuse. Ambiguous Name. Check 50 wicks.
  • Polish the Turd: Per TNTRS, filled with complaining, overly subjective yet classified as objective, general examples amongst other problematic examples, etc. Previous TRS thread suggested IUEO, but it didn't pan out as there weren't enough of those examples. May need a cut, disambiguation, or something like that. Complaining. Check 50 wicks.
  • Creator Killer: Must be a work that caused the "killing", but non-works are sometimes listed. Noticed in the X Killer cleanup thread. May need an expansion. Misused. Check 50 wicks.
  • Porting Disaster: Complaining magnet, probably better as Darth. Discovered in a Trope Talk thread about possible future Flame Bait items. Complaining. Check 50 wicks.
  • Obvious Crossover Method: Identified as a possibly YMMV concept listed as a Main trope. Needs Help. Check all 48 wicks.
  • Balance Buff: Might be Trivia, as mentioned here. Needs Help. Check 50 wicks.
  • Mandela Effect: Suspected of being poorly-defined, and attracting nitpicking misuse similar to the misuse that Critical Research Failure suffered prior to its disambiguation. Misused. Check 50 wicks, or all 96.
  • Common Knowledge: Brought up in an attempted cleanup thread as a possible TRS candidate. Possibly not tropeworthy—check for misuse as well for niche "common knowledge" along with entries that overlap with Fandom-Enraging Misconception. Needs Help. Check 50 wicks.
  • Troubled Production: Per this, attracts misuse for productions that weren't troubled and just had, as laserviking42 put it in the comment, things "tangential to the work at hand". A cut or conversion into a Trivia item were suggested. Misused. Check 62 wicks for misuse.
  • Satire/Parody/Pastiche: Found in the wild. Not a trope, but listed and used as one. Not Tropeworthy. Check 50 wicks.
  • J'accuse!: Noted as being a stock phrase with all examples merely being uses of the term in fiction. Not Tropeworthy. Check all 38 wicks.
  • Damage-Sponge Boss: Noted as having undergone Trope Decay—it is being misused for any boss with a lot of health, rather than, as My Timing Is Off put it, "a very basic boss fight that is little more than a war of attrition, with little strategy beyond "hit it until it dies"". Misused. Check 50 wicks.

There may not be a problem, but do a wick check anyway to see
  • Wreaking Havok: Unclear name, slightly unclear definition, noticed complaining in some wicks. Check 50 wicks.
  • Romanticism Versus Enlightenment: Supposed to be about a conflict between the two, but apparently gets misused for which one the tone or message of a work leans towards. Description issues too. Discovered in this TLP draft, will be a really tough project but I'll see what I can do. Check 50 wicks.
  • Big Fun: Specifically for good characters who are fat and likable. Misuse for non-good characters? This ATT involving a low-context example piqued my interest—maybe the name is too vague. Check 50 wicks.
  • Eskimos Aren't Real: Well, the problem is mainly that I don't know what to check, but there's been long-standing concern about this trope name being offensive, and the Isolated Pages tool flagged its quotes page recently. Check 50 wicks (once I know what to check).
  • Bad Export for You: Name is more negative than the concept. Don't really know how bad the use is, but check anyway to see. Check 50 wicks.
  • Underused Game Mechanic: Found in the wild, may have similar problems to They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot. Check 50 wicks.
  • Popularity Polynomial: I don't know what to check, but there are tropeworthiness concerns here. Possibly misuse? Check 50 wicks.
