This will probably be for my characters or whatever.

Tropes that apply to all my characters
  • Appropriate Animal Attire: On Earth, normal humanlike wear is custom, which is part of the reason Autumn is such an outcast. On Meleti, all a good dragon needs is a simple robe to cover themself up, since their feet are shaped like that of an elephant.
  • Furry Lens: The characters are for the most part humans with distinguishing animalistic characteristics. This is in part to help distinguish them and in part to add irony to their personality.

    Autumn Leeds

Name: Autumn Leeds
Age: 18 Earth years
Status: Concerned, but Powerless

I-is this tunnel straight? It, it feels like we're going downhill.

A naive, timid, distracted fox coming of age without knowing the truth about what happened to her brother. When she gets a letter saying that he might be somewhere else, she heads into a cave and gets bitten by a crystal monster that gives her fire powers.

  • Abusive Parents: Her mother, at least of the emotional kind. For one, she won't tell her what happened to her older brother—apparently Autumn is too young, even on her eighteenth birthday. She also makes an offhand comment about her mom throwing away her "chill pills."
  • Affectionate Nickname: Calls Liz "Lizzie" when she's bashful.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Her hand crystal is, while potent, relatively fragile. If all her crystal is shattered or used up, she will lose it for good. The crystal grows further up her arm and ends up being absorbed by Floyd when he transforms into a crystal monster.
  • Barefoot Loon: She never wears shoes, even as a cook at a restaurant, and has a lot of abandonment issues and problems with self-image.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Floyd's Cain.
  • Character Tics: Scratches behind her ear when she's nervous.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Has major issues with her self-worth.
  • Disappeared Dad: Lives only with her mom, without a dad in sight.
  • Expressive Ears: When scared, sad, or otherwise, her ears fold down. When angry, they fold back. When happy or excited—which is rare—they perk up.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has red fur and can shoot fire from her hand.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Her jealousy about Liz and Jake's relationship comes to a head after a while, and it almost gets ugly.
  • Heroic BSoD: After finding her brother's body and being ditched by her friends, she ends up in a pretty bad mental state.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Part of her motivation for coming to Meleti. Not only does she want to get closure from her missing brother, but she also wants to escape the mother who had abused her so much for six years.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Considers it once at the beginning of the story from the balcony of her apartment, but instead gets hit in the face with the note inviting her to Meleti. Also almost jumps into the water near the end of the story, but Jake notices and grabs her just after she lets go.
  • The Mole: After being ditched, teams up with Syd and Floyd.
  • Playing with Fire: She doesn't play well, but it's easier to on Meleti than Earth because there's so much more air and wind.
  • Power Crystal: After the Guardian bites her, a topaz grows on her left palm. Sadly, it is parasitic and would have turned her into a statue if it weren't for the antidote she got.
  • Precision F-Strike: Drops the only swear stronger than a "damn."
You ditched me... YOU SONS OF BITCHES DITCHED ME!!
  • Speech Impediment: Stutters when she's nervous.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Appearance-wise, she's the Tomboy to Liz's Girly Girl. Personality-wise, they're swapped.

    Liz Clarke

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liz_color_4.png
Name: Liz Clarke
Age: 19 Earth years
Status: Cute, Cuddly, and Horribly Wrong

Well, here we are... Earth Two-point-O.

A bold, boisterous trans cat who is proud of herself and doesn't let her family define her. Only comes along for the ride to support her best friend, and otherwise just wants to get right the heck back home.

  • Action Girl: Quite agile from doing daily yoga, and can climb a sticky tree relatively fast.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Gives Autumn the nickname "AJ" after her initials. She only uses "Autumn" when she's angry or serious.
  • Ambiguously Bi: While she's in a relationship with Autumn, she does comment on a guy's good looks in a horror movie.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tends to be rather blunt with people and their flaws. Doing so to Autumn ends up making her vengeful.
  • Catchphrase: "No big!" Usually said ironically.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Of a sort.
    Autumn: H—harder than it looks?
Liz: Oh no! Easy peasy... healing fruit, squeezy!
  • Delinquent Hair: Giant mohawk, dyed yellow and white.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Definitely, with her one-sided leather jacket.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Has her soul sucked out of her body after being crushed by rubble.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Has been trying to live a normal life ever since she came out, and does not take it well when she's invited to another world.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Her mother is a strict, by-the-book cop who tries to be nice to everyone. She is a rebellious waitress who speaks her mind as she likes.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Not exactly proper, but they are definitely there.
  • There's No Place Like Home: Downplayed. Pleasant Valley may not be where her heart is set exactly, but at least she has some semblance of thought as to what her future will be.
  • Verbal Tic: Says "Y'know" about every other sentence, y'know.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Delivers a short one to Jake after he leaves Autumn for dead in a rush.

    Jake "Just Jake" Cuzco

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jake_38.png
Name: Just Jake
Age: 18 Earth years
Status: Pining for the Yong

Ah, bonjour! Salam! Ah-yeh!

A know-it-all, blunt, adopted raccoon who is Liz's French tutor and a major fan of The Lizard King. He gets a letter from the book's author, Karl Martin, and analyzes it in order to find out what happened to this man of mystery.

  • Adoption Angst: He is implied to not have a good relationship with his adoptive family; he is obsessed with The Lizard King because he believes he is somehow related to its author, Karl Martin. He turns out to be... but it is also revealed that he had died.
  • Cunning Linguist: Downplayed. He is reconstructing a conlang from his favorite books, so that's something to know. And he knows a bit of it, but not enough.
  • Geek: Best known for his love of a book known as The Lizard King. Enough to bring a first-edition in the original German around with him to restaurants.
  • It's All About Me: Downplayed. While he still cares about others, especially Liz, he is very much more interested in himself, an effect that amplifies during stressful situations. He ends up leaving Autumn for dead so they can get to the funeral in time.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Quite the egotistical one. He is currently trying to reconstruct a language that was probably inaccurately transcribed in the Lizard King books.
Eco: You speak our tongue with no heart.
  • My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: Due to his own reconstruction of a living language, he speaks it with a thick American accent, getting things not quite right in pronunciation. Eco speaks English anyway, if somewhat rudimentarily.
  • Nerd Glasses: Good knowledge of what things are, but needs correction in order to see them.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Half-sharp, half-flat. He wears a red polo, a green bowtie, and brown dress shoes, but also wears silver sweatpants and a red beanie.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Uses "Emergency French tutoring" as an excuse to come to Liz's house during Autumn's birthday party. Somehow it is effective.
Liz: Jakey, y'know, whatever you're doin', it's... workin', somehow.

    Eco Palimu

Name: Eco Palimu
Age: 80 Meletian yearsnote
Status: Growing a Pair

Liyongshi? Letvafi, no! I no lisa!

The eponymous King Without Wings, a forgetful albino crown prince who has to return before his younger twin brother is crowned as the Yong, while also struggling with affirming his gender identity.

  • Artificial Limbs: Sews wings for himself so he can fly. Yet to ever test them out, however.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Swoops in to save Autumn and Liz from falling back into the lava, finally having been able to fly in front of his brother.
  • Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism: Not exactly bizarre, but female dragons always tend to have their wings as a more vestigial feature. Eco, being trans, is embarrassed about his wing size, but is even more embarrassed about being seen trying to wear prosthetic wings.
  • Coming-Out Story: While his identity is completely figured out, he has to grapple with revealing it when it comes to being the Yong.
  • Forgetful Jones: Downplayed. Sometimes he can forget things, and often covers for them. Case in point, he makes a healing mixture for Autumn, yet forgets it—therefore, Syd heals Autumn's leg when Autumn joins their side.
  • Funetik Aksent: The tendencies of his native tongue make for an especially strange affected English. He replaces all his w's with v's unless they're after the vowel and r's with l's.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Gives a rant to Maci about all the suffering they have had to go through as he takes the five to be executed.
