Correct/Character goes out of character to say something snarky
- World of Snark: Although Chandler is known as the Deadpan Snarker of the gang, the rest of the characters (apart from maybe Joey, and even he has his Snark Ball moments) would be extremely snarky on any other show. It's just hard to notice because 90% of his dialogue is snark, while everyone else only manages a weak 80%. Correct use; Joey is the resident idiot, so him being snarky fits this trope.
- Recap.Doctor Who S 6 E 4 The Krotons: The Second Doctor, who is usually compassionate, easy-going and as modest as the Doctor ever gets, has one stuffed down his throat by Robert Holmes and spends most of the serial playing Insufferable Genius, subtly mocking the Krotons and Jamie and bickering with Zoe over whether he knows how to do everything or not. This has the effect of moving his characterisation to be quite close to the Fourth Doctor's, a character Holmes was pivotal in creating. Sounds fitting.
- Recap.Little Princess S 1 E 14 I Want A Trumpet: The Maid is usually quite refined, but when the Princess startles her with her bad music and asks, "Don't you like music?", she delivers the burn, "I like it when I hear it."
- Recap.Numberjacks S 1 E 40 Almost Human: Four, a usually polite four-year-old, says, "Oh, great" at one point. I guess this fits?
- Recap.Numberjacks S 1 E 7 Seven Wonders: Seven, despite being usually mild-mannered, ironically agrees with the Puzzler's statement that they had fun. Same with this one.
- Recap.Peg Plus Cat S 1 E 3 The Messy Room Problem: The usually-sincere Cat says, "Yeah, right" to express disbelief.
Sarcasm Mode (or another Snark Trope) mislabeling / Character Is Snarky
- Literature.Haunted2005:Comrade Snarky spends the entire bus ride to the theater riffing on everyone around her. This doesn’t seem out of character given the that the character is literally named snarky and there isn’t anything in the example (as written) that suggests that this out of character behavior for her.
- In the The Other Kind Of Roommate, Terry is both the director of Beth's home base art gallery and her ex from a year ago. They get along well professionally, with plenty of Snark Ball passes between each other and even some Big Brother Instinct, but there are clear reasons for why the two broke up when the topic turns to Beth's new interests. 'Characters Are Snarky
- Characters.Beelzebub Main Characters: Oga is pretty dense and the butt of a lot of stupidity based jokes, but he manages to be fairly snarky nonetheless. Both dumb and snarky.
- Recap.Doctor Who S 2 E 2 The Dalek Invasion Of Earth: Barbara and Susan get taken in from wandering around unprotected by the Resistance against the Daleks, and their leader presses them on their useful skills. He asks Barbara if she can cook - she says she can get by - and then asks Susan what she does, who replies "I eat". In response, the leader clarifies that he's not asking for gender-based reasons - the resistance is just currently short on cooks. Susan's sarcasm is confirmed when we later see her cook an apparently delicious rabbit stew from a wild rabbit she hunted and prepared herself.
- Recap.PAPCAAMIPT Ch 37 In The Eye Of The Beholder: During their play fight, the twins become a lot more banter-y than usual as part of the game. Characters are snarky during a snarky game.
- Recap.South Park S 1 E 7 Pinkeye: Dismissing claims of zombies, Officer Barbrady zings Chef's costume.
- The Cleveland Show: Roberta is rude to her parents. Character is rude.
ZCE/Poorly written examples
- Let Me Get This Straight...: The English dub of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone tries to use this to cover up for an As You Know in the original script — Ritsuko had explained Misato's plan to Misato just so the audience could hear it. The dub makes it smoother by having Ritsuko take up the Snark Ball and say something to the effect of "Let me get this straight: your plan is to [exposition goes here]? That's not crazy at all. From this amount of context, I'm not sure if Ritsuko is in-character here.
- Film.Blazing Saddles: Mongo (having just been used to give Rock Ridge one heck of a load of exposition) looks right at the screen and intones solemnly, "Mongo only pawn, in game of life." This doesn't even seem very snarky to me, and it's lacking a lot of context.
- Recap. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 8 E 9 Non Compete Clause: Quite capably fielded by Pinkie Pie when Twilight asked who would be better than AJ and Dash to teach a lesson on teamwork. You've read the quote twice already.
- Recap.PAPCAAMIPT Ch 31 Oh Deer Pt 2: Mrs. Cake says, "Just great" even though she doesn't normally talk like a rude high-schooler. This might be correct usage, but seems very exaggerated.
- Recap.Peg Plus Cat S 1 E 26 The Halloween Problem: Cat actually says, "Yeah, right" in a PBS Kids show. Speaking of exaggerating...
- Recap.Peg Plus Cat S 1 E 39 The Straight And Narrow Problem: The phrase "Yeah, right" is actually said in a PBS Kids show (by Cat). Second verse, same as the first.
