The Pantheonic Lantern Corps

The world is calling out,
for a time…
when things the are true,
they are not,
and they should be.

Seven Corps will be born. Seven Corps will shine their light brightly. Seven Corps will be at war.

Being a protector is a strenuous duty, no matter your allegiance and the source of your objective. To maintain balance is one task which requires massive power and/or support. The Emotional Spectrum is one such example, for feelings and reactions need to be kept in check, lest one becomes overwhelmed and drained away.

Hence was the existence of the Lantern Corps, various collections of warriors and enforcers of any race, regardless of their planet of origin, that have been bound to a specific emotional spectrum for them to represent and embody. They all function similarly in that there are rings empowered by a certain emotion which colour code specific feelings. These rings grant the wearer with incredible power that allows them to enhance their physique and fighting skills, in addition to creating constructs of varying use and heightening the emotions that the rings represent.

Each Lantern Corps, while operating similarly to each other regarding how a wearer uses its ring, all have their own ideals and motives, which are influenced by their rings. Ring wielders are likely to be motivated by a desire to do good, exact revenge on the sinful, induce fear as a means to enforce balance and well-being, promote love sooth broken ones lovingly, a means of power for one's self, represent hope and peace and aggressively seek out compassion even it means brainwashing.

It wasn't long before all seven Lantern Corps signalled their presence in the Pantheon. They took note of the fact that their sworn nemesis, Nekron had been developing a secret organization whilst the Pantheonic Forever War went on. Eventually, with enough forces gathered and gathering a series of lieutenants, Nekron established the Grand United Alliance of Destruction to begin making way of eradicating any and all emotions and ultimately eradicate the multiverse and beyond so that Nekron could establish his universal kingdom of Undeath.

Because of Nekron's massive influence, all seven Lantern Corps have agreed to a non-aggression pact because they are aware of Nekron's vast powers and influence and that the refusal to work with one another will be costly to other's and one's self and they cannot afford to waste any effort.

While Nekron is their primary focus, the Lantern Corps took great notice of the Necromancer known as Nagash. Wanting to instil further power in the Black Pyramid to strengthen the GUAD (Actually not. Nagash wanted to use the Black Pyramid in order to become an Overdeity and was secretly planning to usurp Nekron for ultimate leadership), Nagash carried out a grand attack with the aid of Shinnok, Gul'dan and Count Orlok and under Nekron's permission to add to the GUAD's power. He killed Mami Tomoe and Kyoko Sakura as a means to mentally torture and mock his opponents, particularly Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki. Only with the combined efforts of Artix von Krieger, Settra the Imperishable and Nagato did Nagash pull back, but the battle was a bleak stalemate with massive portions of both the GUAG and GUAD killed and several, especially Madoka, traumatized.

While they didn't take action, the Lantern Corps took as much record as they could to Nagash's unholy attack and held a council. Each Lantern Corps were divided on how to handle the situation until Sinestro proposed that the Lantern Corps should now start to strengthen their nuanced alliance with one another and start to scour the Pantheon for potential recruits. Knowing that the GUAD's influence is growing ever stronger and that the threat of Nekron and Nagash is going to be catastrophic, the Lantern Corps leaders agreed with Sinestro. Although Larfleeze of the Orange Lanterns cannot bring himself to present a ring, he is willing to stick with the Corps alliance during conflicts involving the GUAD. Following this, the Lantern Corps have dispersed to find any potential beings with strong emotional affinities to allow them to be recruited.

And not just the GUAD, the Lantern Corps also noticed that Parallax is also in the Pantheon, still in pursuit of its own goals of fear. Despite their shared affinity, the Sinestro Corps are vehemently against Parallax just as much as the other Lantern Corps and measures are beginning to be taken to combat against it. That and there's also Krona who's own schemes of travelling through time and wanting to recreate the Big Bang is taking heed with his alliance with Melkor and the Grand United Alliance of Evil, which the Corps are seeking to combat against with allies outside just them.

Currently, the Lantern Corps, despite their intentions, allegiances and end goals are aligned with each other due to Nekron and the very nature of the Pantheon.

The Lanterns, particularly the Green and Blue Lanterns and the Sapphire Star Corps have taken to making a strong alliance with the Puella Magi after their brave and selfless struggle against Nagash. After Mami and Kyoko were revived with some effort, both groups have taken to learning from one another, although they've made it clear that each group will keep their powers to themselves as the Puella Magi are not willing to take up any rings.

The Lantern recruits are not permanent members. While there are some who maintain a good relationship with the Corps that they are associated with and will regularly use their ring if it's to help them out, others will only join forces if they have a common goal in mind, otherwise, at best, it's a working relationship as they may disagree with what the Corps would want to enforce. All that said, every single recruit will align in either major Pantheonic events or a serious incident regarding Nekron and the GUAD.

Aside from the GUAD, Krona and Parallax, the Lantern Corps also has several other enemies that they have been keeping a close eye on.

  • Darkseid: The Lord of Tyranny has been a staunch enemy of the Lantern Corps even before the Pantheon and Darkseid's ultimate goal is to ultimately rob every being of their emotions except for mindless obedience. The Lanterns are not willing to let this happen.
  • The Anti-Monitor: Like most the entirety of the Pantheon, The Lantern Corps are united to fight against The Anti-Monitor who will stop at nothing to destroy the multiverse in the attempt to rule over all that is antimatter. This and the Lanterns have been among the Anti-Monitor's most persistent foes, even before the Pantheon had been established.
  • Thanos: The Mad Titan has seen the Lantern Corps as an obstacle towards his goals of impressing Mistress Death and has decided to combat against them in the hopes of further impressing his love. Conversely, the Lantern Corps are opposed to Thanos due to his pursuit of reaching his goals via planetary destruction and usual disregard for life.
  • Zamasu: Zamasu has a pathological hate for anything that isn't himself or godlike in his viewpoint, and the Lantern Corps, in turn, view the Fallen Kai as a delusional maniac with a hopeless degree of self-grandeur and unremitting depravity. His omnicidal mania is something that the Lanterns are keeping in check of.
  • The Anti-Spiral: The Anti-Spiral is driven by an extreme view of monitoring and judgement and will immediately resort to wiping out large ounces of civilization should there be a number the Anti-Spiral thinks would be problematic. That, and he is also someone wholly capable of universal destruction should he feel like it.
  • The Tyranids: The Tyranids will stop at nothing to pursue and devour everything that they come across. As a result, the Lanterns have stepped in to prevent further destruction and casualties at the jaws of the Tyranids as much as they could.

Lantern Corps Leaders

Hal Jordan/Green Lantern (Green Lantern Corps)
Hal Jordan, God of the Heroic Spirit (Green Lantern of Sector 2814, Parallax, the Spectre, Highball)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_760.jpeg
  • Intermediate God (Was an Overdiety during the time he was a host for The Spectre)
  • Symbol: The Green Lantern Insignia.
  • Alignment: Neutral Good, but tends to veer in Chaotic Good territory from time to time.
  • Representing Willpower, a major trait for numerous heroes who have the utmost resolve and determination, the Green Lanterns are some of the most resilient organizations in the Pantheon. However, Willpower isn't exclusive in morality, as a villain is also just as capable of becoming a Green Lantern. Hal seeks to avert this from happening.
  • While the Green Lantern Corps has several leading members, Hal decided to take the commanding helm when it comes to the new recruits in the Pantheonic Multiverse. It helps in that he is the most famous of the organization around these parts.
  • Is also a staunch member of the Justice League and will be seen fighting alongside them. However, with a new leading team, Hal is attempting to find time between being this and a member of the GUAG at the same time.

    Atros/Atrocitus (Red Lantern Corps)
Atros, God of Blood and Gore (Atrocitus, Lord and Master of the Red Lantern Corps, Wrath, Hate, Righteous Vengeance)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Red_Lanterns-1_Cover-2_Teaser_9960.jpg
  • Intermediate God (Greater God when serving as a host to The Butcher)
  • Symbol: The Red Lantern icon
  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral, Chaotic Evil in Green Lantern: The Animated Series
  • As the leader of a group which is empowered through Rage, is easily the most vicious and aggressive leader out of the Lantern Corps. Still, given what he has gotten through, it's hard not to argue against Atrocitus. He does, however, sympathize with those who have been through a great deal of tragedy and suffering.
  • He is careful enough and has enough of a moral understanding to not allow Complete Monsters into his group. While villains are welcome, Atrocitus does seek to see the tragedy in them plus he often has to discipline them into working effectively with the other Lantern Corps if they were to succeed.
  • He has a surprising amount of morally good beings in his ranks, though that also makes Atrocitus have the group he has most difficulty actively working with. Because they're still acting on a genuine belief to do good, Atrocitus sometimes tries to take that direction if he can, though his ravenous and merciless demeanour and reputation towards the wicked leaves a lot to be desired.

    Thaal Sinestro (Sinestro Corps)
Thaal Sinestro, God of Villainous Predecessors To The Hero
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sinestro_001.jpg

  • Intermediate God (Greater God when using Parallax)
  • Symbol: The Symbol of his own Corps
  • Alignment: Zigzags between Lawful Evil and Lawful Neutral (Currently Lawful Neutral)
  • Thaal Sinestro was the one Corps leader who suggested the idea of recruiting deities into their ranks. While not without its faults, the other leaders decided to agree on his word, given that despite his villainy, Sinestro is capable of making logical points and can be an effective mentor when the chops are down to it.
  • His faction represents Fear, which means that he seeks to recruit those who able to inflict fear into his enemies as this feeling is what empowers them. To that end, his most preferred choices are the most feared beings in the Pantheon (or at least the ones that can convince and he has an alliance with).
  • Initially considered Freddy Krueger and Pennywise for his ranks. However, their repulsive and absolutely depraved nature meant that Sinestro couldn't actually bring them in, lest they wanted to sabotage the Sinestro Corps for their own gains. Not to mention having them would immediately earn the scorn, disappointment and resentment of the other Lantern Corps.
  • Should the Lantern Corps unite themselves against a common enemy, Sinestro would usually be the head strategist of the group, given his years of experience and his (rather questionable) nature as a mentor.

    Larfleeze ( The Orange Lantern)
Larfleeze, God of Oddly Small Organizations (Agent Orange)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-612819-gl_cv39_super_4640.jpg
  • Greater God (rank drops the more who wield the Orange Light)
  • Symbol: An Orange Lantern ring
  • Alignment: Neutral Evil
  • Represents Avarice. This is telling, given that he is the only member of his own corps. If greed was to be emotional power drive, it would be strongest if he had everything associated with the Orange Lanterns.
  • Due to reasons stated above, Larfleeze is unwilling to give out Orange Lantern Rings to anybody. It doesn't help in that giving a ring to induct into the corps's ranks would noticeably depower Larfleeze to some extent. Despite this, he is willing to work with someone if there's some sort of common interest going for it.
  • Is arguably the hardest Lantern Corps leader to work around with. As brutal and questionable Atrocitus and Sinestro may be, there is at least some degree of camaraderie and loyalty that they would present, which the Orange Lantern lacks as there is literally no one besides Larfleeze himself.

Bro'dee Walker/Saint Walker (Blue Lantern Corps)
Bro'dee Walker, God of Compassionate Preachers (Saint Walker, Moonface, The First Blue Lantern)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3111917_bluelanternsaintwalker.jpg
  • Lesser God (Intermediate in the presence of a Green Lantern)
  • Symbol: The Blue Lantern sigil
  • Alignment: Neutral Good
  • Powered by Hope, the Blue Lanterns are most famous for being their galaxy's residential Hope Bringer, alongside the Green Lanterns, with which they have the best relationship with regarding the Lantern Corps. Further adding to this is how Blue Lanterns seem to become more determined and stronger with a Green Lantern's presence and vice versa.
  • Bro'dee has a great working relationship with the GUAG Kibou Go, given how their aim and motto is centred on hope. While independent from the GUAG in general, Bro'dee is openly willing to help them out at any time.
  • Takes on the role of being the moral mediator of the Lantern Corps as a whole. Given that Bro'dee is the nicest and most peaceful of the leaders regarding their personality traits, they are willing to take advice from him at least for once, even Atrocitus and Sinestro.

    Iroque (Indigo Tribe)
Iroque, Goddess of Reformation Through Brainwashing (Indigo-1)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Green_Lantern_Issue-47_Teaser_1985.jpg
  • Intermediate Goddess
  • Symbol: The Symbol of the Indigo Tribe
  • Alignment: Neutral Good (formerly Neutral Evil)
  • Despite being well-intentioned, she may be the most controversial Lantern Corps leader out of the seven, which says a lot, considering how extreme Atrocitus and Sinestro are. Her Corps tend to employ sociopaths and those who are nigh-incapable of redemption. That said, the power of Compassion does weigh out a member's negative compulsions.
  • Despite the above, Iroque is looking to bring in good-natured beings into her ranks, presumably because there are several villains who can potentially overwhelm her and that Iroque needs to be careful about whom she could approach with and without caution. Those who display compassion, strive to be the best they naturally can and/or are adamant in being extreme about their approach are a fair bet.

Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire (Star Sapphire Corps)
Carol Ferris, Goddess of Crystal Prisons (Star Sapphire)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/929855_green_lantern_vol_4_20090824003412256.jpg
  • Intermediate Goddess
  • Symbol: The Star Sapphire Corps Emblem
  • Alignment: Chaotic Good (formerly Chaotic Evil)
  • One of two Lantern Corps that has actually shifted from being bad to good. Carol seeks to refine and improve the reputation of the Sapphire Star Corps as much as possible while still trying to maintain a working relationship with the other corps as much as she could. Her being Hal Jordan's girlfriend may or may not be helping this case.
  • Obviously enough, Carol and her Corps have a strong association with the House of Love. Initially, they had a rather problematic relationship, given how the Sapphire Stars were initially villains. However, Carol has turned this around and gets along with the House splendidly. It also helps that the House of Love has a lot of members considered as potential candidates for recruitment.
