Roleplay / The Evermore

Go To

Once, somewhere in the great reaching sea of the Fictional Omniverse, there was the Silent Forest, an infinite expanse of fog and trees where nothing has ever happened. Until one day, something happened. A dimension imbalance in the omniversal spacetime around the Silent Forest occurred. Whatever caused was never learned. What did happen was that individuals started appearing in the Silent Forest, ripped away from their own realities. They were known as Evermore.

The Evermore series is a series of online roleplays that have been hosted on Spacebattles.com, starting off as a predecessor and later spin-off of the Songs of the Spheres Fan Fic created by GMBlackJack. Since 2016, there have been two such roleplays, the Evermore Recursions, created by GMBlackJack, and the Evermore Realms, created by StolenMadWolf.

The basic premise of the Evermore series is relatively simple, but surprisingly able to be complex. All Evermore roleplays take place in a Recursional space within the wider Multiverse called the Recursions (renamed Realms in the sequel), where many different worlds, both original and fictional, appeared, ready to explore. The players control characters called Evermore, who could be original characters or directly from existing fiction, who have been torn from whatever reality they are from to a new location within the Recursions. There, they discover they have the ability to travel to thee worlds and even (in Recursions anyway), can sometimes create new worlds with their powers. They set off to explore the Recursions on random adventures and there, our story takes place.

Started in September 2016, Recursions featured the Evermore travelling across the Recursions on their own random adventures, with no defined heroes or villains, although there were many examples of both within the individual worlds and the wider Recursions themselves. The actions of the Evermore and the denizens in the Recursions driving the plot, both by the choices of the players and the GMs themselves.

Recursions lasted from September 2016 until November 2017. However, in the following month, some of the old Recursions players started The Evermore Realms. Realms serves as a sequel and reboot to Recursions, offering a fresh slate for Evermore old and new whilst adding additional changes and potential 'Recursional events' to serve in a wider, cross RP plot that can still be shaped by the players.

Realms lasted from 2017 until late 2019, and was nearly identical to Recursions in its sandbox nature to Recursions, but also features wider, Realm-wide plots that impact across the entire RP which were planned for release in multiple Arcs. However, due to certain difficulties, only the first of these Arcs, The Vortex War, was completed. Roleplay concluded in late 2019, with a final ending to the Realms being released in five parts. The last of these was finally completed in 2020, bring the Realms and by extension, the Evermore story to an end.

...for about five minutes, as a couple of months after the final part of the ending was released and nearly a year after actual posting ended, a new RP based on the series came back up.

The new RP is launched in October 2020 under the name Everborn as Everborn Revelation. Set in a different setting from the original, it will focus on smaller story driven 'episodes' coupled with more open sandbox elements, along with small but significant changes to narrow down and refine the experience. However, Revelation ultimately ended up a failure, as did not enjoy the same level of success as it's predessors due to a combination of different factors.

In response, the GMs closed Revelation and proceeded to work on a new RP project under the working title of Evermore Legacy. With the mixed results of the meta-plot driven Realms and Revelation, the new RP would return to a similar format to the old Recursions, and focus purely on just the exploration and stories of the Realms themselves.

In May 2021, the fourth Evermore title, now confirmed as Evermore Resurrection, was started.

The thread for Recursions can be found here, Realms here and Revelation here.

The Evermore contains examples of:

    open/close all folders

Tropes relating to Evermore in general
  • Anti-Villain: Haine, who has bound the genus loci of the Everfree to his will, sacrificed raiders to feed the Everfree, and has taken over a gang in Remnant. He remains an Anti-Villain because the first was a Roaring Rampage of Revenge, and took over the gang to build his power base.
  • Aura Vision: One of Thomas's abilities, who used it to check if The Traveler was a human.
    • Luc Cario also has this, amongst other aura based abilities.
  • Big Bad: While the multiversal nature of Recursions means that having a singular big bad is near impossible, the Tokomare since grown to be a multiversal threat. In the Realms however, there is a clear Big Bad in the form of the Vortex. Only for the Vortex itself to be overthrown with the Darkwater becoming the ultimate Big Bad and the Final Boss.
  • Character Development:
    • Jane, who was slowly growing more morose as the story goes.
    • Hayate Aesirkami, who is learning to care for mortals.
    • Ethan Hobbs, who has stopped being afraid and Took a Level in Jerkass.
    • Warden, who starts off as stoic and almost unfeeling, slowly embraces his emotions and humanity as the story goes on.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: It happens a few times across the series:
    • In Recursions, an entire world had soldiers fighting for different coloured armies, such as Red and Blue.
    • In Realms, the Construct and it's entities were represented with the colours Blue and to a lesser extent, grey. On the flip side, the Vortex and it's forces were represented with purple and black.
    • Likewise, in Revelation, the titaular ship and it's Watchers are reperesented by the colour green and to a lesser extent red. The 'Infected' Watchers on the other hand appear to be represented by the colour yellow.
  • Cool Sword: There are several of these:
    • The Wei Doi's weapon of choice, which are also electric.
    • Audas Kingsley's longsword named Fenrir, which is not only able to cut through nearly any material with the right user, it is durable enough to be able to survive nuclear explosions without a scratch (though Audas can't do this himself.).
    • Kili Kingsley's nanoblade, although not always a sword, also counts.
    • Jardey Alecta's sword, which, though impractical, can become a giant white magic greatsword
  • Crossover: The whole point.
  • Depending on the Artist: There were several different authors writing in both roleplays. Of course each one has their own unique style.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Darkwater are this for the series. According to Crusader, they were responsible for the end of the Recursions, the Vortex's creation and by extension, all the events that have taken place in the Realms so far. The ending has them topple the Vortex to become the Final Boss.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Audas Kingsley, being a human-wolf hybrid/anthromorphic wolf, qualifies for this. Kili Kingsley also qualfies.
  • Healing Hands: Kalzky's main ability. Kili Kingsley is also capable of the same feat.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The Evermore are from all over fiction, with some original characters thrown in for good measure.
  • Pragmatic Villainy:
    • Triss-ahem, TITAN, who helped Ozpin because it was nic- sorry, TO FIRMLY ESTABLISH ALLIES.
    • Crusader frequently dabbles in this, playing both sides of the Realms Conflict for his own gain.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Depending on the realities of real life and activity on each roleplay, this occassionly happens with some characters. Likewise to any Evermore from Recursions who didn't return for Realms.

    Tropes relating to Recursions

  • In the Hood: An increasingly common fashion, given that Palpatine, The Masters of the Bazaar, and the Wei-Doi/Imperial Cabal on Equis all wear hoods.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Citrus, who in addition to being a dragon, can transform into a human, a lamia, a drakeling, note  and a tree.
  • Pet the Dog: It really should be Pet the Cat. Titan's calico, Desecrator of Souls, invokes this wherever she goes.
  • Physical God: Again, Hayate Baldur Aesirkami, son of Thor and Amaterasu.
    • The Datasphere
  • Really 700 Years Old: Thomas, who's this by being a vampire. The Wei-Doi take this to new heights by all being centuries, if not millennia old, yet look like teenagers.
    • And Haine, who murders people without looking back, yet helped a group of Evermore in Numenera.
  • Real-World Episode: A couple of the characters have had dream sequences where they meet face to face with the players that write for them.
  • The Fool: Kalzky, one of the players self inserts, tends to get himself in large amounts of danger, but usually comes out(relatively) unharmed
  • Unwitting Pawn: Adam has yet to realize that he has fallen in with the wrong group of Wei-Doi.

     Tropes relating to Realms
  • After the End: Realms takes place after the sudden dissolution of the Recursions.
  • Arc Words: 'Chaos is tolerated, not embraced, within the Construct.'
  • Bittersweet Ending: How Bitter or Sweet the ending is depends on your interpretation: The Evermore, alongside the inhabitants of the Realms manage to end the war and prevent the Darkwater from escaping, with the Construct and the Vortex being forced to merge to stop them for good. The surviving Realms are returned to their original locations, but every event that happened within is undone and the Evermore run the very likely risk of loosing their memories, and even more if they keep their powers. The Darkwater are still active, and Crusader himself is now amongst the Universes, planning his own agenda. On the plus side, at least some the Evermore are implied to remember, or at least start remembering the events of the Realms if Audas and Warden are any indication.
  • Black Cloak: Palpatine and Wilhelm, in true sorcerous vein.
  • He's Back!!: Any of the returning Evermore from Recursions.
  • Christmas Episode: The Everborn Construct and Forest did this, with the forest being covered with snow, changing the lights, and giving the Evermore presents.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: About 90% of Mr. Psycho's dialogue has at least two swear words.
  • Expy: The Anomolies that appear throughout the Realms are almost completely identical in apperance, behaviour and capability to the Anomolies of Metro 2033. Even going as far as to share the same name. The difference is that the Metro Anomolies are clearly supernatural whereas the Realm Anomolies aren't. In addition, the Realm Anomolies may come in different varieties.
  • Fusion Dance: The Construct and Vortex ultimately pull one of these to become the United One, in order to stop the Darkwater.
  • Mechanical Lifeforms: The Robots of Winterhail are this.
  • Living Statue: The Guardians of the Everborn Construct are this. Often appearing as static statues through out the structure. They activate primarily at the threat of excessive violence in the Construct. They also appear in a Coliseum produced by the Construct.
    • Warden is quite literally this, being a former Guardian but having sections of his stone armor replaced with strange flesh and fur.
  • Living Structure Monster: The Construct. Although unlike most examples, it's not trying to kill people.
  • Living Weapon: #67, along with the minions that can be produced, was designed as this.
  • Nightmare Fuel: There is clearly something up with the Vortex at the centre of the Realms. It's made worst by the fact it can appear in all of the Recursions by literally tearing holes in reality. It doesn't help matters that inside the Vortex there seems to be the remains of the Silent Forest in the depths of it. More recently, an entire Realm has fell into the Vortex itself...
  • Spectacular Spinning: Some of the Robots of Winterhail, such as Hypno-Disc, Carbide and Tombstone are spinner bots, armed with spinning discs and bars as melee weapons. They prove more than capable of sending Winterhail robots flying and causing massive damage.
  • Super Multi-Purpose Room: The Everborn Construct is filled with these. It is capable of producing rooms of nearly any function, ranging from rooms for the Evermore, food rooms, bars, a Coliseum and yes, a bathroom with toilets.
  • Will-o'-the-Wisp: Anomolies quite clearly resemble wisps.

     Tropes relating to Revelation
  • Cool Starship: The Revelation itself is one by design. It is ten kilometres long, has it's exterior covered bow to stern with crystals, possesses it's own version of a Realmgate, fits in a pair of Forests and even has a miniature sun hanging above the Garden Forest. And that's just from the early impressions.
  • Red/Green Contrast: Invoked with the 'Revelation' itself, which follows this motif. It's hull and the Realmgate are coloured a dull red, whilst the crystals and so far, some of it's holograms, are green.
