SB Gets Items of Power is a Role-Playing Game on the Spacebattles Forums [1] [2], [3] started in November 2015 by paradoxicabyss8. The players are self-inserts or original characters that have been given a single "Item of Power" by a Bored Random Omnipotent Being and placed into various works of fiction.
Setting-Specific Tropes:
open/close all folders
Fire Emblem: Awakening
- After the End: Giant Evil Dragon has wreaked havoc on the world. Things look bleak, as shown by the sky.
- Annoying Arrows: Subverted.
- Badass Family: All the parents, and their children that have come from the future.
- Darker and Edgier: Compared to the original fictional work.
- Faceless Goons: Subverted with the bandits, causing Ella's Heroic BSoD.
- Grave Clouds: Perpetually hanging in the sky of Timeline Beta.
- Holy Ground: There used to be some in the Timeline Beta, but Grima wrecked them.
- Mad Scientist: Lucina became one, assisted by Laurent.
- Polluted Wasteland: Most of the Ylissean continent during Timeline Beta.
RWBY
To be added.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Chest Monster: Chests, animals, and people tend to suddenly explode into a mass of tentacles.
- Combat Tentacles: What the mimics tend to turn into.
Bravely Default
- Action Prologue: Shortly after being dropped into the world, one team of Travelers experiences a massive earthquake that swallows up the nearby village. Only Sebastian's quick thinking managed to save one of the original main characters and his brother.
- Earthquakes Cause Fissures: The aforementioned earthquake, which opened up a massive hole in the ground.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Curse: Demise's curse on the land. Which one the Travelers attempted to absorb via "tapping" the land, Magic the Gathering-style. It ended about as well as could be expected.
Tales of Avedan
- Fantasy Kitchen Sink: The creator of the setting dumped everything that came to mind in and removed a few choice things.
SB Gets Items of Power contains examples of:
- Absurdly Sharp Blade: Sebastian's Keyblade(s). And what the Fire Emblem skill "Luna" turns a blade into.
- Action Girl: Most female characters in the RP, by the very nature of the RP.
- Alternate Universe: Infinite universes in the Multiverse. Currently, there are two parallel timelines of Fire Emblem: Awakening (with a Fire Emblem: Fates spinoff/continuation starting soon), two parallel universes for RWBY (now four!), and two parallel universes for Skyrim.
- Big Damn Heroes: What most players attempt to be, to varying degrees of success.
- Crapsack World: Timeline β of Fire Emblem: Awakening. Also, RWBY.
- Critical Failure: Given that some of the GMs do use dice, this is to be expected. Examples include a shipgirl failing to hit much but buildings with civilians with artillery and an army man bringing a nest of spiders down on his men.
- Crossover: To an extent, when technologies/memories from one fictional work are placed into another.
- Death World: RWBY, and some other settings.
- Deus ex Machina: A more limited version. The GM hands the player things known as "GM tickets" for events such as Christmas. These GM tickets allow for each player to have a single use GM action where they can properly cause a change in their universe as long as the main GM permits it.
- Healing Shiv: Rui wields Woundhealer, and proceeds to gently stab Amber in the face to heal her soul from how Cinder stole a piece of it and left her comatose.
- Instant Expert: Sadly played straight by players that forget that their characters are supposed to be self-inserts. Or by players that give themselves skill boosts via GM Ticket.
- Player Character: Well, yeah. It's an RP full of crazy, semi-crazy, and ridiculous people.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The characters, for better or worse.
- Sliding Scale of Realistic vs. Fantastic: Some people prefer harsh realism, some prefer cinematic action-fantasy. This comes out as differences in the way that the various universes are run, or colors PC actions.
- Time Master: Some people, such as Sebastian(Keyblader) to an extent. Haste, Slow, and Stop are friggin broken.
