A moment in time
Ninja Ninja Tactics, sometimes abbrieviated to NNT, is an OC-insert quest taking place in Naruto following Karasu Hatake, twin brother of Kakashi Hatake, born at the end of the 2nd Great Ninja War. He's every bit as prodigious as his brother was known to be, if not more so. Players command Karasu through his entire life, starting from when he was born to now (he is 12) and fighting in the 3rd Great Ninja War though decisions are often made for other characters as well.

The thread can be found here

Warning, spoilers below!

Ninja Ninja Tactics contains examples of:

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: One of the wind-element channeling variations allows sword users to enhance their blades sharpness. Lighting has a variation that also does this through vibrations to enhance cutting power.
  • Accidental Pervert: Whenever a 69 is rolled something lewd happens. Depending on what is rolled, this has an extremely high chance of occurring at a given time.
  • Adorable Evil Minions: Basically what Kushina says her squad is.
    • Akiha later gets one of her own in her new lab assistant Sarashina.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: One of the new skills Karasu learned during the Kenjutsu tournament is called Relentless. It is a controlled version of this trope which ensures he will always be able to attack. He learned it from watching General Ieyasu.
  • A Lesson in Defeat: When Karasu duels Sakumo, his father, in the Kenjutsu Tournament, he elected to fight thinking he'd lose from the start. His father makes it clear he had better chances than he was allowing himself and that he shouldn't enter the ring with a defeatist mentality.
  • An Ice Person: The Yuki clan in general and Karasu as well now.
  • Bad Ass Crew: Team Kushina in general are 10-year old prodigies that are the youngest jonin since the forming of the villages. It's noted by basically everyone that they are absolutely the biggest names of the currently growing generation.
  • Bad Ass Family: The Hatake. Sakumo and Haruna have had three confirmed prodigy children so far, Sakumo is a kage level S-rank ninja, Haruna is ex-Anbu, Isane is an ex-jonin of Kiri and it's likely all the new children will be prodigies as well.
  • Berserk Button: Do NOT harm Kushina's hair. Karasu learned this lesson extremely early on during the team's version of the bell exercise.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: The lesson all the other villages have been learning during the 3rd War. Konoha handily defeated Kiri and forced a truce, is well on its way to doing the same with Iwa and hasn't had much trouble fending off Kumo while dealing with the other two.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Karasu is one of the most talented ninja basically ever. As a result he is constantly pushing the limits on numerous techniques and even inventing new ones. Noted Examples:
    • Karasu invented a new stage for the Diagnostic jutsu that gives him full bio-kinetic level insight on a person's body.
    • Karasu has pushed the Temporary Paralysis jutsu to the point that the C-rank jutsu affects everyone to at least some degree regardless of who they are.
    • Karasu has pushed the Mystic Palm to be fully internalized in his chakra giving him a natural healing factor.
    • Karasu has internalized the Tremor Sense jutsu and now has a constantly active passive tremor sense.
    • Karasu has figured out how to overlay illusionary clone limbs on top of his own to make it difficult to judge what will and what won't be an attack. Combined with his natural Afterimages Karasu makes even the most seasoned of veterans nervous because of how hard it is to see where he's actually attacking.
  • Canine Companion: As the Hatake clan are Dog Summoners, almost all of them when they are old enough have one save for Haruna the clan's matriarch.
    • The Inuzuka have this as well, but, instead of dog summons, they breed and raise regular dogs.
  • Cornered Rattlesnake: Iwa was well on it's way to losing the war, and then Taki pulled out their jinchuriki in an unnecessary show of force. This gave Iwa the excuse to start using theirs with impunity, and so the push stalled out for quite a while.
    • They're quite close to this point once again thanks to a huge swath of losses making them have to pull further and further back to consolidate their forces. They had several tricks up their sleeve but this snake has been beheaded.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Iwa did this in regards to Karasu, they attempted a failed assassination on his clan when he was a child sparking the war. This in turn caused him to grow very rapidly in power so that he could protect his family and culminated in him being utterly crucial in the final battle against them.
  • Doorstopper: NNT currently sits at over 2 million words and still has several years more content according to its author. It is one of the quests with the highest word-counts around.
  • Doppelgänger: Sachi and Akami are examples of this. Sachi looks identical to a young Tsunade to the point that when the Senju clan send Tsunade pictures of her niece, she thinks they're pictures of her younger self. Akami looks identical to Sarada, the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura from later in canon.
  • Explicit Content: As the quest is hosted on Questionable Questing, this is to be expected and has occurred in some chapters and interludes. It has also been made fairly clear it will happen more often once Karasu and the rest of his age-group are actually old enough to have sex.
  • Flash Step: The shunshin is literally this.
    • It's been revealed that the Hatake are actually responsible for creating this technique and that they have an even better version that allows for far more control of the technique.
  • Geometric Magic: Fuinjutsu in this fic and in Naruto in general. It's much more expanded upon in Ninja Ninja Tactics than in canon with Karasu learning from Kushina and becoming very skilled in the field.
  • Glory Hound: Fugaku is this, the Uchiha were purposefully not deploying for the war as a kind of power-play and now that they have been deployed they are finding a distinct lack of victories for themselves. He almost tried to set the ocean on fire when Maui and Illidan escaped his Amaterasu.
    • Danzo was this recently during the Ame mission which horribly backfired on him.
    • Danzo yet again during the final battle against Iwa he runs off to capture a Mass Kunai Launcher completely ignoring Kushina's commands and was very likely about to fire off an explosive javelin at Mu and Sakumo's fight to try and steal the kill for himself until witnesses arrived. Fugaku was also looking for some glory during the battle and actually managed to earn it this time by locking down the rhino boss summon with genjutsu and Amaterasu so he was at least helpful.
  • Hammerspace: Storage scrolls are this with several of their users being notable walking storage units/armories. Karasu just carries a ton of stuff on him at a given time, Kushina keeps several lakes full of water and Erza has her numerous swords.
  • Haunted House: One of the earlier missions was to a rumored haunted bathhouse for Team Kushina. It becomes an averted trope when they discover the inn-keeper only hired them hoping that if she could fool ninja the rumors of her haunted bathhouse would spread.
    • And then it's invoked when a passing traveler tells the team that the inn had been abandoned for years. Averted once again though once Karasu informs her that she looks a lot like her sister and for her to say hi for him.
  • Hot-Blooded: Gai and his father. Just everything about them.
  • Hunk: Sakumo is noted to be a very ruddegly handsome type of guy as noted by his wife, Isane his mistress and Sayuri.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: When it's revealed that Kenpachi has no idea what chakra is, it terrifies people because he's been fighting on par with some of the world's best chakra users. Later, he decides he will learn how to use chakra for the next tournament.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: It's revealed that after the sacking of Uzushio several villages took Uzumaki prisoners for various reasons and to various places. They are generally not at all happy with this arrangement to say the least.
    • Kirigakure took them and put them in a prison called the Pitt where Hiroki Uzumaki was the final survivor before finally being rescued.
    • Kumogakure was a special kind of evil where they had their Uzumaki act as broodmares to birth a new clan they call the Arashi clan. Thankfully this has finally been put a stop to with the Uzumaki being rescued and the facility being destroyed.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Both Karasu and Kakashi do this when visiting the Uchiha compound when barely older than toddlers, the Uchiha kids want to show off their shuriken skills and when they give a turn to the Hatake twins the two proceed to perform just as well if not better than them.
    • The Curving Breeze jutsu is basically a way to do this as well with any thrown weapon.
  • I Should Have Been Better: Karasu has a moment like this when Chouchou is very nearly killed during a Kiri raid on their camp. He has another one when he makes a mistake during a surgery on a patient at the hospital and loses them.
    • Sakumo tells his son that he has had this issue in the past and that he suspects he does as well. He gives Karasu the advice that he simply cannot be and do everything at once and that he will one day be forced to accept this rather than stop it like he's managed up till then.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Karasu is a noted speedster with very good damage dealing options. What most people don't realize, because he is hit so rarely, is that he has a number of very powerful defensive techniques as well and is very hard to put down.
    • Both A the Raikage and A the Jonin are other noted examples.
  • Like a God to Me: Yurei worships Karasu as an angel, to the extent that she not only prays to him, but has even managed to attain converts to her new faith. No one has yet grasped the full implications of what it means for the individual who can see the full and true nature of others to worship someone as a god, nor what it means for Karasu's potential fate when he is empowered by said worship.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Any of the few times Zetsu or Madara have their perspective shown, they are always this working in the background.
    • The elders from the Uchiha clan to a lesser extent. They think they are better at manipulating people than they are, but they do have enough sway that they could succeed in some things.
    • Danzo as well has shown through his interludes that he is pulling strings behind the scenes. Danzo tried to make an alliance with Hanzo, but failed and caused the rise of Pain (just like he did in canon).
      • Danzo also recently seemed to be plotting to launch a massive explosive at Sakumo and Mu when the two were fighting during the final battle against Iwa but one of Karasu's divination clones along with his squad of anbu stopped them short.
  • Megaton Punch: Basically Tsunade's main non-support superpower. It is hinted that she may teach this to Sachi and Rin in the future.
  • Ninja: What most of the casts occupation is though how closely they embody it varies quite a bit.
  • Pretty Boy: Karasu and Kakashi are basically this though Karasu is noted to take closer care of his appearance than Kakashi does.
  • Set the World on Fire: With Shikaku about to have to lead a battle against a Kiri assault in the middle of a forest, he decided he didn't care too much about leaving anything standing afterwards, so he reminded them that Konoha comes from the Land of Fire.
  • Shout-Out: Many characters appearances and personalities are based off of characters from other franchises.
  • Suicide Mission: What Mu has been sending several undesirables of Iwa on. When it's proven to Megumin that her clan has been getting systematically wiped out, she isn't too happy.
  • Super Mode: Several examples have been peppered throughout the quest, the various methods of opening the Gates, Jinchuriki tailed cloaks, Lightning Armour, Sage Mode and possibly more on the way.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Many of the strongest ninja in the series are born from clans that have spent generations refining their bloodlines to ensure their children have the biggest advantages possible when it comes to being a ninja.
  • Superpower Lottery: Some ninja are born just better than others because of this. Karasu has his white chakra that enhances his development and Hyoton which gives him access to an extremely powerful element few others have. The Uchiha have the Sharingan which gives them massively enhanced perception, reflexes, jutsu-learning and genjutsu abilities, that doesn't even go into its Mangekyo powers.
  • Sword Beam: During the kenjutsu tournament, it's shown that many people are able to do this through various elemental slashing techniques. Wind being the most prominent of them all.
  • The Berserker: Kote and his swordstyle Juyo which requires the user to channel their emotions to fuel their strikes while simultaneously keeping them under control. Unfortunately for Kote, he isn't capable of doing this balancing act, and, over the course of a fight, he might be swinging his blade harder and faster, but his skill drops as a result.
    • Maui to an extent is portrayed as this when things truly anger him. Like what happened with his daughter.
  • The Mistress: Isane has become this with Sakumo and Haruna after the kenjutsu tournament. They had several nights together 3 years prior during the chunin exams and she fell in love. She left Kiri behind to be with them as she hated it's philosophy and the constant fear that people would just kill you or worse.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: A few of them have been given, Kushina gave one to Illidan at one point and later Orochimaru attempted to give one when he left a shadow clone behind after abandoning the village to taunt Karasu and the Sannin.
  • The Shut-In: With how often Karasu trains at home it's a joke from the author that he's actually a bit of a shut-in.
  • The Sociopath: Sasori has already started to show signs of this in-quest, such as when he saw Karasu henged as a cat and wanted to turn him into a puppet.
    • Sasori's grandfather Gein certainly doesn't help matters. With Gein dead now though Sasori seems to be on a better path via Chiyo's guidance.
  • The Stoic: Ibiki in-quest. There is even a competiton among his friends to try and get him to say more than a set amount of words.
    • Subverted later when he reveals to Karasu that he knows about the competition and plays along for fun.
    • Invoked via Baki, when on a joint mission with Suna, Karasu finds that Baki stonewalls him each and every time he tries to make conversation.
    • It has been noted a few times that when in combat Karasu is very quiet outside of sword combat in which he hums the sword song that he hears.
  • We Have Reserves: Mu, and Iwa in general, have taken this approach for most of the war. Mu has been using it as an excuse to cull those who would, or could, oppose him. Meanwhile, he's also recruiting civilians, monks and samurai to fight as fodder so that those he has influence over are at lesser risk.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Perks: Once Karasu develops the Hyoton, he gains much greater resistance to both cold and heat.
  • Younger Than They Look: Chakra accelerates aging slightly when young, so it's noted that many people are surprised when Karasu reveals his age, especially when combined with Karasu being naturally tall.
  • You Wake Up in a Room: After Karasu chakra exhausts himself by helping to defend outpost Nu, he later wakes up in the medical tent with his friends.
  • You Talk Too Much!: Invoked by Kushina on multiple occasions when she fights Illidan, who constantly taunts and tries to degrade her. Her response has been thrash him each time.
