Roleplay / Autobot Academy

Go To

Autobot Academy is play-by-post roleplay created by TFW 2005 user Stonecrusher that accompanies the webcomic of the same name. It follows the story of a bunch of students trying to get through their tenure at the titular Autobot Academy.

The roleplay can be found here. It received a sequel in Festival of Stars, which can be found here. It was abandoned at the start of 2019.

Autobot Academy contains examples of:

  • Abandoned Laboratory: There's a lab from the days of Overlord underneath Autobot Academy, where Gridlock and Hightail were kept in stasis until the freshmen found it.
  • Aborted Arc: The Field Trip! and The Announcement arcs set up a malfunction with the teleporters at the various schools, and it being connected to various students disappearing. However, most of the students mentioned as having vanished come back later on, and the cause of the disappearances is never touched upon.
  • Abusive Parents: Some of the students had pretty lousy parents:
    • The absolute worse in the Roleplay is Cronus, the father of Aranea who physically hurt her if she tried eating more than he liked and sent her away to Autobot Academy so he wouldn't have to worry about her.
    • Aranea's mother Mindfang wasn't great either, spending all her time focused on running SerketCorp until she became ill.
    • Longshot and Saber both have parents that want them to become great heroes... and will not accept any failure in achieving the dreams they have for their children.
    • Furistrados abandoned his son Offroad to die in the slums of Kaon, only coming back to try getting money from him. He also verbally torments Offroad as a ghost and wishes he could force his son to walk off a building... though this mostly stems from the fact that Offroad is the one who killed him.
  • Academy of Adventure: Autobot Academy is a Superhero School that has training missions against bots posing as villains, field trips to other planets, a lab hidden under the school, and a bar run by the biggest crime syndicate hidden in the school's forest.
  • Ace Pilot: Aerosis Academy teaches exclusively fliers, and their students are quite good at aerial combat.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Ramjet somehow manages to remove the clothes of his holomatter avatar. As in, he took them off and had to dig through rubble to get them back.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Due to Decepticons not being allowed to be registered as characters, some players compensated by taking characters that were traditionally Decepticons and making them heroes. These include Bomb-Burst, Misfire, Ramjet, Sideways, Nightbird, Offroad, Archadis, and Tomb.
  • Affably Evil: Dolrailer is an unrepentant criminal, but when not robbing people, he's actually quite friendly. He helped stop a bank robbery when he and his friends were trying to make a withdrawal and invites the two bank tellers that helped them out for drinks once the situation is resolved. He's also respectful to the students who treat him nicely, and he's incredibly friendly with Slicer.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Circuit gets himself drunk during Lunch Period. Not much to say about that.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Longshot has feelings for Aranea, but she's yet to accept his advances. Whisper also wants to be more than friends with Sideways, but he's unaware of her deeper feelings.
  • Aloof Ally: Aranea may give the other freshman advice to act more professional upon meeting up with them in the Forest of Trials, but she leaves to continue moving on her own once she gets the chance.
  • And You Thought It Was Real: After the students stop the Rainmakers' attack on the school, their teachers, who had been absent for the entire fight, step in and reveal that the entire attack was staged, with the Rainmakers merely being Autobots doing a favor for their old school by helping train the new students.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: The students of Maximal Academy all have beast alternate modes.
  • Ascended Extra: Convex and Roadblock had rather small roles in The Role Play, but for the Festival Of Stars, they get far more time to shine, with Convex getting to bond with Nautica and Roadblock getting to help investigate the attempted murder of Ramjet.
  • Back for the Finale: Wheeljack returns for the final arc in The Role Play after disappearing in 'The First Test".
    • Ironfist and Getaway make a return in the very last arc, having stopped appearing the same time as Wheeljack.
  • Back to School: A few of the students that joined the academies are adults. Slideways and Dolrailer definitely are, and Circuit is implied to be, seeing how he was married to an Autobot Academy graduate.
  • Batman Parody: Ramjet's vigilante identity "Jetman" is partly based on Batman.
  • Berserk Button: Ramjet is a fairly friendly guy, and wouldn't hurt his friends outside of a training exercise. However, when Circuit refuses to wear the hat and scarf he made for Class 4-C, he immediately threatens to dismember him so badly he'll need life support for the rest of his existence and then chuck him in a garbage disposal.
  • Blackmail Backfire: Circuit tries to blackmail people twice, but neither time goes as planned.
  • Boarding School: The students of Autobot Academy all live on campus, seeing how it's on it's own planet, Acadeimos.
  • Breaking Out the Boss: After Dolrailer got sent to Axel Academy, Greenjeeper took charge of the rest of his gang and made a plan to break their boss out.
  • Cast Herd: The students are all split into different grade levels, with the freshmen being further split by class.
  • Celebrity Lie: Skyburst and Stormclash claim to have met Pyra Magna. Considering they constantly call her Pyra Magnus, no one believes them.
  • Christmas Special: "Primus Day", which sees the students of Autobot Academy enjoy a snow day and celebrate the titular holiday.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Most characters that stopped technically avoided this thanks to still making comic appearances. However, Slideways had no such luck, and hasn't even gotten a profile. Whether or not he even made it to Autobot Academy was up in the air until Word of God confirmed years later that he hadn't made the cut.
  • Class Trip: The "Field Trip!" arc, where Ramjet takes Class 4-C on a trip to the planet Nebulos.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Misfire is told by Skyburst and Stormclash that they've met Pyra Magnus. Being a history buff, Misfire knows that the Magnus Corp has a Pyra Magna in it, and has never heard of a Pyra Magnus... so he gets into an argument with the twins to try and find out the relationship between the two Magni.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: The TEKU are based on the Teku racing team from Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers. But where in that series Teku were the main heroes of the series, here the TEKU are criminals that allied with the Decepticons for a cut of their gains.
  • Crotch-Glance Sex Check: Beta Levo accidentally does this to Archadis after tripping in front of him, having mistaken him for a girl.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: During a training exercise, Ramjet takes down Circuit with a single punch to the gut.
  • Cut Short: The Roleplay ended on April 2019, with several plot lines left unresolved.
  • Deadly Sparring: While no one actually dies, Sideways takes training the freshmen too far and knocks every single one of his opponents unconscious... because he wasn't using live ammo at the time. Had he been using real weapons, this trope would have been played completely sttraight.
  • Deadly Training Area: In the last Tournament of Heroes, Ramjet chose to save his opponent Beta Levo from falling into lava. It's unclear if there was any risk of Beta actually dying if Ramjet hadn't stepped in, but there was enough danger that Ramjet was willing to lose his arm in the process of saving his opponent.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Longshot is pretty sarcastic.
  • Determinator: Deconstructed with Aranea. Having been taught not to stop for anything until she accomplishes her goals, Aranea doesn't let anything slow her down while going through the Forest of Trials. However, this includes rest and food, so by the time she actually makes it to her destination, she's in poor shape and has to go rest as soon as she reaches her dorm.
  • "Die Hard" on an X: In the "Nighttime Duel" arc, the Rainmakers break into the Autobot Academy and attempt to infect its systems with a computer virus. With no teachers or heroes in sight, the students are forced to stop the Rainmakers themselves. However, the entire event was staged to test the students.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Longshot sees Circuit talking to Aranea, with their conversation at the time simply being them introducing themselves. His response is to shoot Circuit in the foot.
  • Dragged By Thecollar: Happens to several characters.
    • Buster drags Fuego through the Forest of Trials with him until the pair run into more freshmen.
    • Bomb-Burst drags Nautica with him so she can get practice socializing by talking with his friends.
    • Misfire carries Hosehead, Bomb-Burst, and Tailgate from an alien culture lecture to their next fight in the Tournament of Heroes.
  • Dungeon Bypass: Wheeljack gets through the Forest of Trials by flying back to the ship that dropped him and hanging onto it as it flys to drop off the upperclassmen.
    • Defied by Roadblock, who keeps the rest of the flying students on the ground by levitating rocks into their path with his talent.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Being written in the earlier days of the comic, the role play featured several elements out of place in later installments:
    • Bomb-Burst is said to be waving to his parents, plural, as he leaves for school. We later find out his mother died years ago dead.
    • Ratchet and Prowl are shown to be members of the Autobot Academy faculty. This is less noticeable with Prowl, since he's at least stationed on Acadeimos to provide security, but him handling things like student admissions seems rather out of place.
    • At one point, Fortress Maximus mentions that the Autobots are aware of the C.D. Pub being run by the Decepticons, but have dismissed it as being a minor operation. Later on in the comic, it would be revealed that even a former student knowing the location of Acadeimos would be considered a notable security breach, so the Decepticons being present would absolutely be dealt with immediately.
    • For weirdness within the role play itself, Longshot's first line is him enthusiastically claiming he's ready to be at Autobot Academy... a far cry from his dismissive attitude about becoming a hero.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Dolrailer enjoys robbing banks and getting into fights to get what he wants. However, he finds that killing a civilian isn't fun at all, and he only tries to hurt police going after him or rival gangs. He also thinks Megatron would make a horrible leader for Cybertron, and is disgusted when he hears how abusive Furistrados was to his own family.
    • Speaking of Furistrados, he's a thief who abandoned his wife and son due to feeling they held him back and only cares about his family when he can get money from them. But he's absolutely not a killer. While he figured they'd die anyway, Furistrados did nothing to ensure that it would actually happen to Quickstitch and Offroad, and was content with waiting for his mother to die naturally to get her inheritance. And he calls out Offroad for his more violent tendencies when haunting him.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: The "Humble Beginnings" arc sees the freshmen main cast get to know each other on the shuttle flight to Acadeimos.
  • Expy: There's a few:
    • Aranea and the Serket family are all based on characters from Homestuck.
    • Longshot's is minor, but he's an expy to Nintendo Wars Grit
    • Tailgate's abilities and design resemble Ice Man from Mega Man.
    • The TEKU are based on the cars used by Teku from Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers.
  • Firearms Are Cowardly: Ramjet considers swords to be an honorable weapon and accuses Longshot of not being a true warrior for using a gun in combat to try and get on his nerves. However, he himself uses More Dakka as a strategy frequently, and he specifically mentions that sword fighting is only good against a similarly honorable opponent. So while he may not have a high opinion of guns, Ramjet at least sees their value in a fight.
  • First Day of School Episode: "The First Test" arc sees the freshmen sorted into their classes.
  • Foreshadowing: Among the thoughts Aranea reads in "Forest Trials" are those of one freshman commenting how he stole the identity of a real student. This was later revealed to be Steeljaw, though the narration insists this was not an example of this trope.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Heatrock doesn't use his drill tank mode to follow Armordillo underground even when Hot Spot tells him to.
  • Friend or Foe?: Misfire manages to finally aim properly in "Field Trip!"... but his first target is one of the Diaclone mechs also trying to fight the Waruder the freshmen are facing.
  • Fully-Clothed Nudity: The underwear Ramjet's holomatter avatar has on while fighting the Waruder isn't terribly revealing if the art provided of it is anything to go by. However, Circuit and Artillery react as though he's fighting completely naked.
  • Gender Bender: Some of the holomatter avatars used in "Field Trip!" have genders different from their users. Ramjet, Circuit, and Misfire have female avatars, while Artillery has a male one.
  • Gender Flip: Convex, Tailgate, Whisper, Hightail, Nova Storm, Plug, and Greenjeeper are all female here, while their canon depictions at the time were are male.
  • Going to Give It More Energy: Tailgate's powers mean she can just freeze any water shot at her with an ice shield. Hot Spot, who's talent is to shoot water, beats her in a fight by continuing to spray the shield until it becomes too heavy for her to support, and she gets trapped under it for the rest of the match.
  • Good Parents: Not every student at the Autobot Academy has horrible parents:
    • Misfire's mother Lunaclub always made sure he was happy, despite their poverty. Making her accidentally death from Misfire's own powers all the more tragic.
    • Offroad's mother Quickstitch also worked hard to make sure her son could survive, to the point that it killed her.
    • Hosehead has nothing but kind things to say about his parents, Artfire and Discharge.
    • Bomb-Burst's parents were both good to him, and his father Blood didn't let the death of his wife Ether Walker affect his treatment of his son.
  • Graceful Loser: Though Ramjet loses his fight to Beta Levo in the Tournament of Heroes, he doesn't hold it against him, and even offers to go out and get drinks with him later.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: Longshot's shoulder cannon has a grappling hook built into it. Sideways gains one as well upon copying Longshot's talent.
    • "Jetman" has a more traditional version, in keeping with his nature as a Batman Parody.
  • Hero Academy: Protectobot Academy isn't concerned with teaching it's students how to use their powers to fight villains, but rather save civilians from natural disasters.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: A lot of characters do this to themselves, prompting others to comfort or get them back on their feet.
  • Hero of Another Story: Several main characters from the comic make guest appearances here.
    • Artillery, Sonar, and Tremor appear in stories focusing on Class 4-B.
    • Steeljaw shows up in "Forest Trials".
    • Hot Shot and Bumblebee help fight the Rainmakers in "Nighttime Duel".
    • Several comic characters fight in the tournament in "Festival of Stars".
  • Honor Before Reason: Longrack chooses not to finish off Rad during their Tournament of Heroes match while he's stuck under rubble, and instead helps him get out so they can have a fair fight.
  • Hypocrite: Sideways decides he needs to spy on Ramjet when he leads a field trip to Nebulos, and he tells the senior he had to make sure he didn't accidentally cause an interplanetary incident, as Ramjet would be too irresponsible. However, while Ramjet and the freshmen sent holomatter avatars to the planet, Sideways teleported himself there and admitted to Nebulan soldiers that he was an alien, meaning he did more to potentially cause problems on Nebulos than the one he was worried about.
  • I Let You Win: The monster (actually a performer) the students encounter in the Forest of Trials gives up early to distract the freshmen when they mistake Aranea for another monster. It works.
  • I Work Alone: Fuego doesn't even bother sticking around with the other freshmen he finds in the Forest of Trials. As soon as he gets directions to the Autobot Academy, he just leaves to get there.
    • At Protectobot Academy, Hot Spot isn't enthusiastic about the idea of working with a team.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: Roadblock turns down "Quickstitch's" offer to sleep with her if he beats her at a race, as he's currently looking for Offroad, who is the prime suspect for attempting to kill Ramjet. However, when she drops the prize in favor of just racing, Roadblock is all in.
  • In Name Only: There are several canon characters in Transformers named Roadblock, Tailgate, Hightail, and Scorch. Autobot Academy Roadblock, Tailgate, Hightail, and Scorch don't have much in common with any of them.
  • It's Raining Men: Students going through the Forest of Trials are dropped from the ship that brought them there directly into the middle of the area to start the test, without any warning. Luckily, as the students are giant robots and the ships fly fairly close to the trees when the drops happen, no one dies from this.
  • Lecture as Exposition: During the Festival of Stars, a lecture is held on alien cultures with guest speakers of other species. This gives them the opportunity to provide lots of details about the cultures of their species.
  • Living Prop: Apathet appears twice, but doesn't interact with any character, and no one acknowledges her presence.
  • Loophole Abuse: Slicer justifies his hacking into the Tournament of Heroes network to manipulate the scores in favor of Axel Academy by claiming that, due to using his Instant Hacking talent to do this, he's simply using his talent to win the game, and therefore is playing by the rules.
  • Love at First Sight: Longshot develops a crush on Aranea as soon as he sees her.
  • The Lost Lenore: Rook's wife, Doveride, was killed long ago by Combatronians. Her death inspired Rook to join the Primal Vanguard to help protect others, and he never dated anyone else.
  • Making a Splash: The talent Hydrokinesis lets the user control water. Prominent users include Hosehead and his friend Hot Spot.
  • Man, I Feel Like a Woman: Ramjet pokes the chest of his female holomatter avatar due to not understanding what they are.
  • Meaningful Name: Lampshaded. So many of the students have names relating to their powers that Longshot starts keeping count. These include Longshot himself, Saber, Ironfist, Misfire, Hosehead, and Ramjet.
    • Longshot considers Steeljaw, whose name has nothing to do with his talent, to be a half qualifier after being told that Steeljaw was named after someone who did have a meaningful name, being able to enhance their mouth, though this isn't actually true in the slightest.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Longshot and Saber both get new weapons in preparation for the Tournament of Heroes.
  • The Mole: A few students aren't all that they seem...
    • Circuit is secretly part of a gang, though his motives for enrolling are unknown.
    • Greenjeeper got herself into Autobot Academy as part of her plan to rescue Dolrailer.
  • Mugging the Monster: Upon learning that Aranea is part of the incredibly wealthy Serket family, Circuit decides to use his talent to trick her into giving him some of her money. What he didn't count on was Aranea being a telepath, and instead of cash, he finds himself caught in a painful wrist hold.
  • Mythology Gag: This RP contains a lot of these to its sister series, and to ''Transformers in general. To specify:
    • Ramjet looks a lot like Armada Thrust. This is lampshaded when he gets a codename "Thrust" and later he's paired up with Sideways.
    • Longshot has an assault rifle that attaches to his back, and turns into a ventilation system, just like the Classics Sunstreaker and Sideswipe molds.
  • Naked People Trapped Outside: Ramjet is forced to fight the Waruder while his holomatter avatar is only wearing underwear.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: Some of the freshmen get a boost in abilities in time for the Tournament of Heroes.
    • Misfire gets over his Power Incontinence, making him a much more effective fighter.
    • Hosehead goes from just being able to spray water from his hands to having full control over water.
    • After learning the Overdrive technique from Rook, Bomb-Burst is able to have his shell operate independently.
  • Noodle Incident: Sureshot is seen later in the Roleplay with several patched up injuries. What he did to get them wasn't said.
  • Off to Boarding School: The reason the Aranea is at Autobot Academy is that her father, Cronus, wanted her out of the way while he ran SerketCorp.
  • Official Couple: Hosehead and Tailgate start hanging out together after "Nighttime Duel", but them being in a relationship is cemented in "Festival of Stars" when they share a kiss.
    • Slicer asks Flare-Up out in "The Announcement", and they've stayed together throught the entire Roleplay and into the comic.
  • Only Friend: Slicer appears to be this for Dolrailer, at least at Axel Academy. He doesn't insult him at all, offers to let him join his gang if he forms a new win, attempts to help him woo Flare-Up, and tries to give him a knife to use in the Tournament of Heroes. However, this is entirely one-sided, as Slicer simply insults him, ignores him, or tries to make him leave him alone.
  • Out of Focus: Since the story takes place at a school, the characters who stop appearing are all still around, as confirmed by several cameos in the comic, they just don't make appearences here anymore.
    • Within the comic, the freshmen get the most focus of all the grades, and with one exception, are the only ones to have their classes focused on in the story.
    • Eventually, due to having more active players remaining in it, Class 4-C would become the primary focus of the story.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Rook's son, Crann, was killed by Combatronian soldiers before Rook can reach his family.
  • Parental Abandonment: Furistrados and Glidestorm, the fathers of Offroad and Beta Levo, respectively, left their families behind so they could improve their own lives.
  • Parental Favoritism: Cameo likes Devcon more than Longshot due to him taking after her more, something Longshot is fully aware of.
  • Parental Neglect: Mindfang, Aranea's mother, always focused on work, meaning she was never around even before she got sick.
  • Perspective Flip: In "Forest Trials", Longshot reveals that he was present for the events of "Aspire to Greatness", the first issue of the comic series. Notably, due to his dislike of Star Convoy, Longshot paints him getting Hot Shot into the Autobot Academy as Star Covoy playing favorites and handing out rewards to a punk just because he's a fan.
  • Playing with Fire: Several characters have Pyrokinesis as their talent, letting them control fire, including Fuego, Hot Shot, Nova Storm, Hightail, Flare-Up, and Overload.
  • Posthumous Character: Streetblaze, Doveride, Crann, and Ether Walker all died before the story began. We learn of them through their living family members.
  • Power Copying: Sideways has the ability to absorb the energy of talents, letting him use them as well. While he can only use two at a time, he generates any tool needed to make full use of his abilities, regardless of whether or not the talent can actually generate them, such as generating an Arm Cannon with a bayonet upon absorbing the abilities of Longshot and Saber.
  • P.O.V. Sequel: The Roleplay is technically one for the comic series, due to starting at the same time the second issue came out, even though the events it focused on were going on at the same time in the comic. The Roleplay sees the arrival to Autobot Academy and the freshmen's first day from the perspective of a different group of students.
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality: By proxy. Roadblock is obsessed with fair play and ensuring that the school rules are followed. As such, he personally tracks down senior student Getaway immediately after learning he broke the rule of not running through the Forest of Trials, a test reserved for incoming freshmen to determine if they'll be accepted at Autobot Academy. However, Roadblock ignores Ramjet being in the Forest of Trials as well. While he's only there by accident, Ramjet spends all his time helping the group of freshmen he's befriended get through the forest, giving them an unfair advantage. Roadblock was confirmed to have watched said freshmen, but they still suffer no consequences. Said group consists entirely of the Roleplay's main characters.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Longshot and Circuit's rivalry reaches it's peak in "Nighttime Duel", and they give each other several of these:
Longshot: What are you doing and why the hell are you up so late at night? Isn't it past your curfew? Oh wait, riiight, you don't follow the rules here.
Circuit: Seriously dude, What d'you Have against me. I mean, seriously. I know you think you're this bad aft, snarker, cool guy, but at this point, It's kinda unnecsisary. Like you haven't conveyed any new information. Seriously, you're actin' like I killed a puppyoid 'r somthin'. There's kinda an attack, and I'm gatherin' peoplen for something. This is one of the times I'm doin' somethin' selfless. You're just bein' a spike
Longshot: Oh my god! Circuit's actually being serious for once?! And I thought the day would never come! You wanna know something Circuit? I don't hate you because you did something to me, but it's because of what you continue to do to others. You always hide behind your talent, manipulating anyone with that voice of yours, and when the going gets rough, hiding with your tail in your legs, waiting for the fighting to end, and always looking for an opportunity to get rich, or manipulate someone else, because you can't rely on yourself. Hell, I feel like if you had a Conjunx, you'd fuck that up entirely too, because you refuse to be truthful without stabbing them in the back, stealing money from them, or just plain dumping them for something better! Isn't that right?
Circuit: Sure, Mr.Moral high-road McEdgelord. Yeah, no one cares about your witty little remarks. You're not as "OH ME PREMOOSE SO KEWL", as you think. It's actually starting to piss me off. Y'know, I bet you never gave anything up in your life. You got everything GIVEN TO YOU! DON'T, I REPEAT, Don't talk about Conjunxes around me!
Longshot: Oh why so Circuit? Did you fuck that up too or am I just hearing things? I'm trying to help out in this attack too! Why the hell do you think I got my leg all banged up? Did I just magically have a City-Scraper sized bot just come over and stomp on me, leaving only one of my feet crushed? No, unlike you I'm actually doing something about the situation!
Circuit: Oh, and I'm not. Seriously, DON'T Slaggin' talk to me about conjunxes! Now please, Tell me, What In the Pit is with all these weird fraggin' Alien swear words. "Hell", "Damn", "God", I don't slaggin' understand. And furthermore, I don't understand what give YOU the right to judge me, and act like a spike to ME, when You're Just as, or more of of a spike than me. But, no YOU want to take the moral highroad. I swear to Primus, You didn't belief I was being honest about my FRAGGING RELIGION. What is up you aft!
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Ramjet and Sideways, Rook's top choices of upperclassmen for helping with training exercises, have this dynamic. Ramjet is the reckless, jokester Red Oni, while Sideways is the collected, professional Blue Oni.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Scorch has been working at Autobot Academy for the past three years, but isn't introduced until "Primus Day".
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After watching a group of Combatronians kill his wife and son, the first thing Rook does is kill each one of them.
  • Sadistic Choice: Offroad presents one of these to Slicer. He can either tell the authorities about Offroad's threats, who will then kill his girlfriend Flare-Up as revenge, or accept his challenge of a Duel to the Death to protect Flare-Up, who will be the only one who knew that Slicer was a hero when Offroad kills him.
  • Series Continuity Error: Ramjet is said to have spent twelve years at Autobot Academy, and Beta Levo was said to have been at Aerosis Academy five years ago. This implies that all the academies are taking students at elementry, middle, and high school grade levels. Problem is, this isn't the case: no one younger than a freshman has ever been shown at an academy.
  • Sneaky Departure: Aranea leaves in the middle of the night while the other prospective freshmen sleep to continue looking for the way to Autobot Academy.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Sideways doesn't take kindly to Sky High joking that he's dating Whisper.
  • Shout-Out: There's quite a few.
    • The Academy itself is a massive shoutout to RWBY, what with a forest, and students with interesting capabilities. Albeit, they are introduced to the school in a different manner in the RP.
    • Upon seeing Batman Parody "Jetman", the narration claims Circuit is scared due to being a "superstitious, cowardly bot," a pun based on a line from the Batman comics about criminals.
    • One of the story arcs has Artillery's story played out like the dialogue from How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.
  • Shop Class: Retrofit teaches a course at the Autobot Academy on how to forge and maintain armor.
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: In theory, any student with a flying alternate mode could just fly over the Forest of Trials and get to the school without having to deal with any obstacle. Roadblock, who likes fair play, uses his powers to lift several rocks into the air to stop that from happening and keep the playing field even.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Longshot takes an almost instant dislike to Circuit, who soon reciprocates. Their arguments on the first day of school start reaching incredibly petty levels, as evidenced by "The Reason You Suck" Speech examples above.
  • The Spartan Way: Autobot Academy wastes no time in testing it's students. To even get admitted, potential freshmen must make it through the Forest of Trials in three days without any time to prepare. And it stages a Decepticon attack on the first night of the school year to test the students, too.
  • Speed Demon:
    • The students of Axel Academy are all about going fast, though most aren't jerks, just very competitive.
    • The TEKU street racers used to be like Axel Academy, but since joining the Decepticons, they've turned to crime, which they insist they're good at because of how fast they are.
  • Superhero School: The Autobot Academy is training it's students how to use their talents to become Autobot heroes.
    • The same is also true for the other academies, though they specialize in more specific styles of heroism.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: StitchGlitch's scythe is not something he made in the workshops at night. It is a regulation weapon he just doesn't want anyone else to know about or see.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Hosehead brings up the potential freshmen getting dropped out of the Xanthium into the Forest of Trials as a possible scenario they should consider. Turns out he was right to worry about that.
Longshot: SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!! HOSEHEAD I HATE IT WHEN YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!
Hosehead: I HATE IT WHEN I'M RIGHT!
    • Tracks tells Offroad that their match in the Tournament of Heroes will be over quickly. It ends up being the longest match of all.
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: Sideways goes overboard during the training simulation, not stopping his attacks on the freshmen until he sees to it that each one is neutralized despite this being their first test ever. In fact, if he was using real weapons, his actions would have killed them.
  • Three-Point Landing: Discussed. The winning strategy Silverbolt recommends the Aerosis Academy students in the Tournament of Heroes use involves doing a superhero landing.
  • Time Skip: "Nighttime Duel" takes place on the first night of the school year. The following arc, "Primus Day", takes place at the end of the semester.
  • Tournament Arc: The "Festival of Stars" portion of the Roleplay primarily focuses on the Tournament of Heroes that students of the multiple academies fight each other in.
  • Transforming Mecha: Just about the entire cast, given that this is a Transformers series. Additionally, the Waruders also transform, and the Nebulans have Diaclone mechs that become vehicles to fight the Waruders.
  • Uncertain Doom: Spectyr is last seen being left behind by the rest of TEKU to get beaten up by just about every single Decepticon in the C.D. Pub for trying to steal from Acadeimos Town, a move that would result in security being increased. He hasn't been seen since, so it's unclear if he got Torn Apart by the Mob or not.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Roadblock and Ironfist show up in "Festival of Stars" despite them having been listed as having gone missing earlier. No one acknowledges that they were ever gone.
  • Uniqueness Decay: Longshot is said to be notable for not having a hero recommend him for Autobot Academy enrollment. As more characters had their backstories revealed, this doesn't seem that significant anymore, with several other students getting in simply because they enrolled themselves.
  • Vicariously Ambitious: Why some of the students are at Autobot Academy.
    • Longshot's father Pinpoint wanted to be considered a war hero by dying from a Heroic Sacrifice. He lived, so he wants his children to become Autobots so they'll have the chance to die a heroe's death.
    • Saber's father could never move past the basics of sword fighting. Upon finding out his son had a talent that would let him potentially become the greatest swordsman ever, he pushed Saber to just that and become what he could never hope to achieve.
  • Webcomic Time: Most arcs take place over the course of a single day, but went on far longer than that in real time. The most significant instance is the "Festival of Stars" two parter. What was merely a day and night in-universe took nearly a year in real time.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sideways gets called out by his teachers for going way to far in beating up the freshmen for their first training mission.
  • Wicked Wasps: The Waruders from "Field Trip!" transform into giant, mechanical wasps. One of them crashes into the mall the freshmen are visiting, requiring them to fight it off.
  • Worthy Opponent: Offroad tells Cohrada that he makes an excellent opponent when fighting in the Tournament of Heroes, and claims h makes all his friends through fighting.
  • Written-In Absence: In "Field Trip!", it is acknowledged that the students in Class 4-B with inactive players aren't there. Where they actually are, however, isn't explained.
  • You Mean "Xmas": The Cybertronians celebrate Primus Day in the arc of the same name, which features a decorated tree, hot drinks, gift giving, and a figure with a beard and red hat that hands them out.
