Rise Of Empress Midnight / Tropes F to J

Go To

  • Faceless Goons: The Morks wear red visors in their helmets, hiding their eyes.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Instead of the natural feathered wings, Midnight switched them for mechanical arms with shields for wings, making the transition from Twilight to Midnight.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Midnight does two variants of this, using her own mechanical fists and grabbing other ponies to smash into others.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Alternate Rarity betrays her friends to Midnight, only to join them before the final battle.
    • Borris becomes a Mork and back into a normal pony before the events of Rise of Empress Midnight, only to later turn back into a Mork.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Alternate Borris, having apparently failing easy attacks against the Morks, and is also an ex-Mork.
    • Twilight Sparkle since her alternate is Empress Midnight.
  • His Story Repeats Itself: In the legend, the Ghost Pony sees a mare being attacked by her brothers with two coffins (most likely their parents) in the coach. Seeing how this is similar to how his brothers bullied him, the Ghost Pony intervenes and becomes the hero.
    • Borris becoming a Mork again, but this time, he gathers enough will and delivers a final blow onto Midnight to save the others.
  • Homage: Several references and plots are given homage with subtle hints lampshading this.
  • Humongous Mecha: Mecha Spike, the alternate version of Spike being transformed into a Mork and given a massive robot suit to spew tons of molten metal onto the resistance.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Midnight controls the Morks with a combination of mind control and love control through hallucinations, magic, and pheromone. This makes it near-impossible for the Morks to turn back into their normal selves.
  • I'll Tell You When I've Had Enough!: Atlas says this word for word in reply to Jack seeing how much cake he's been eating.
  • In the Blood: Borris is fairly hesitant when talking about his feelings towards Rainbow Dash, similar to his uncle, Cloud, who was also hesitant when confessing his feelings towards Celestia.
  • In the End, You Are on Your Own: With her friends doing their part to fight Midnight before being chased away/beaten, it all boils down to Hyper Rainbow Twilight and Super Mecha Midnight duking it out.
  • Just Between You and Me: Empress Midnight does this a lot to almost every enemy she comes across.
    • She taunts Princess Celestia and the alternate Rainbow Dash before defeating them.
    • She convinces alternate Rarity to betray the RAEM.
      • She also attempts this on Twilight and Raindrop, but fails to persuade them.
