Rise Of Empress Midnight / Tropes K to O

Go To

  • Language Equals Thought: Oddly inverted. The No-Ponies are mostly incapable of the common Equestrian language, but appear to have advance thought and intellect.
  • Liar Revealed: Alternate Borris' lie about Rainbow Dash being Alternate Rainbow is revealed after Alternate Rarity learns it from Midnight.
    • Gruncle Boris' lie about there not being any sister to Twilight's nor any affiliation with the Alicorn Amulet is revealed by Midnight.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Rainbow Dash.
    • Alternate Borris to a literal extent.
  • Living MacGuffin: Twilight, who is the only pony that can directly use magic on Midnight and her Morks.
    • Raindrop also serves as a macguffin, for when she comes in contact with her alternate version, creating the dimensional crash and crippling Midnight.
  • Loud Gulp: Rainbow does this before trying to avoid Midnight's arm in an attempt to save Raindrop.
    • Twilight does this before telling Dash that her alternate was killed by Midnight.
    • Twilight's Aaron and Daniel do this after the empress threatens the brothers that she'll kill them and their princesses if they don't work for her.
    • Empress Midnight does this when (presumably) Celestia makes her presence known right behind her before the final battle.
Midnight: Where are all you ponies coming from?
    Celestia: Right behind you,
    Midnight: You didn't hear-
    Celestia: Every. Single. Word. Miss.
    Midnight: (gulp)
  • Love Confession: Alternate Borris does this to Rainbow Dash. Doesn't end well...
  • MacGuffin: The Alicorn Amulet, the resistance protects it from Empress Midnight. If she was to get it, her power would bultiply by ten.
    • Empress Midnight actually gets the alternate version of it from Twilight's world, but wants the "first" one to multiply her original power 100 times.
  • Mad Scientist: Boris could qualify for this, considering he made the Alicorn Amulet.
  • Megaton Punch: Empress Midnight performs this on Princess Celestia in their first fight.
  • Metaphorically True: Midnight claims that Twilight is dead/gone. In reality, alternate Twilight's come too far as Midnight to consider herself Twilight Sparkle.
  • Mooks: Midnight's minions, Morks, are hypnotized ponies that attack the RAEM.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Empress Midnight.
  • My Beloved Smother: Atlas calls Midnight a "freak with a thirst for power, like my mother."
  • Mysterious Past: Empress Midnight, Gruncle Boris, and Raindrop's backstories are, at first, completely mysterious.
  • No Time to Explain: Borris says this when he rushes Twilight and her team into the portal to his world.
  • Not Quite Dead: Not once, not twice, but THREE times, Empress Midnight seems to have been killed, only to show up unscaved in the next scene.
    • During the preultimate battle, Mork!Borris strikes her in an electric Sonic Rainboom, the only loss being Midnight losing her new armor.
    • After Twilight blasts Midnight until motionless using her Hyper Rainbow Power, Midnight ends up surviving the "overclock" and is even more powerful than before.
    • Even after being sucked into the world crash, she's still alive within the void.
  • Oddly Named Sequel 2: Electric Boogaloo: After Pinkie announces that she'll write a book about their experience, she starts to think of many absurd titles for the sequel.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Borris' eye irritation and being turned into a Mork again.
  • One-Winged Angel: Empress Midnight with four more arms after wearing both Alicorn Amulets.
    • She literally becomes one winged after barely escaping the world crash.
