Madagascar: A Crate Adventure was a boat-based dark ride that opened during Universal Studios Singapore's grand opening in 2011. The signature attraction of the park's Madagascar land, the ride was an extremely compressed retelling of the events of the first film.

When four zoo animals end up stuck in shipping crates, four penguins who are also onboard take control and cause all the animals to wash up on the island of Madagascar. They end up lost, scared and in constant danger when exploring the further depths of the jungle when they soon come across an army of partying lemurs. While they are enjoying themselves at first, the zoo animals are suddenly asked to stop the fossas in the island from eating the lemurs. Now they must all team up to stop the fossas from bothering any of them again.

The ride closed on March 2022. The building is being demoed and the plot of land will be repurposed for a version of Super Nintendo World

The ride contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Distillation: To squeeze the entire story into an eight-minute ride, much of the story is cut. This includes everything that happens in New York City (the riders see news reports in the queue line), the penguins wanting to go to Antarctica, any of the conflicts that occur between the main zoosters (the closest one is Alex declaring "The sooner we find someone in charge, the happier I'll be!"), and Alex becoming more savage as he stays on the island.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: As a result of the above trope, Alex never experiences his Horror Hunger or attacks his friends.
  • All Webbed Up: When lost in the jungle, Alex is caught in a spider web, dangerously close to a seemingly hungry spider.
  • Funny Background Event: When Julien and Maurice are coming up with their plan to use the zoosters to beat the fossa, the board behind them displays previous plans the lemurs tried. Plan 1 is to "Sacrifice Mort".
  • Man-Eating Plant: A giant plant is seen trying to eat Marty while the zoosters travel towards the lemur outpost. This is also a clever way to recycle the "Excuse me, you're biting my butt!" line with the carnivorous Alex plotline removed in the line.
  • Shadow Discretion Shot: In the opening scene, Skipper is seen slapping the boat operator unconscious. This happens entirely through a black shadow nearby the crates.
