  • Supernatural subtly draws parallels between the Curtis brothers and the Winchester brothers when Sam talks to his teacher about his werewolf-hunting essay and how he doesn't want to go into the "family business"/wishes his life could be different. On the blackboard in the background, there are notes written on The Outsiders and its characters. Both sets of brothers have little-to-no parental supervision, are all each other has, live on the fringes of society, are the victims of circumstances beyond their control, are no strangers to violence, and are very distrustful of authorities because their biggest fear is being split up.
  • The 39 Clues: In Breakaway, Jonah calls Pony "Pony Boy" and asks him if he's "staying gold."
  • R.E.M.'s Around the Sun has a song called "The Outsiders," wherein the lyrics are based on settings and characters from the novel.
  • Mouth Dreams's song "The Outsiders" lists off the characters of the film, using voice clips from the film trailer.
