Films

  • The second Azumi film has Roppa, a huge villain based on Tessai, wielding a giant two-sided blade that effortlessly cleaves people into halves and a bandoleer of dynamites that he keeps spamming everywhere. And like Tessei, he's killed by his own weapon.

OVAs

  • The 1997 Makai Tenshō: Jigoku Hen OVA adaptation used a character design for Jubei Yagyu obviously based on this film's Jubei Kibagami, both of which draw from the portrayals of the historical Jubei in novels like the original Makai Tenshō. This is one reason why Makai Tenshō was misleadingly marketed as a sequel to Ninja Scroll (under the name Ninja Resurrection).

Video Games

  • Some of the film's character designs inspired characters in Samurai Shodown and its sequels: Caffeine Nicotine in Dakuan, Tachibana Ukyo in Mujuro, Shiki in Kagero, Mizuki in Benisato, Amakusa in Yurimaru, Basara in Shijima and Sieger in Genma. Also, Kibagami Genjuro's last name is taken from Jubei.
  • Samurai: Way of the Warrior has a recurring, bald Giant Mook-type enemy who wields a massive two-sided blade, loosely based on Tessei.
  • Mortal Kombat 1: Sub-Zero's fatality references Tessai's death, but with an ice blade instead of a metal one.
