Anime and Manga

  • The Animatrix: "The Second Renaissance Part 1" directly quotes the novel's recounting of the Flame Deluge.
"But the princes, putting the words of their wise men to naught, thought each to himself: If I but strike quickly enough, and in secret, I shall destroy those others in their sleep, and there will be none to fight back; the earth shall be mine. Such was the folly of princes, and there followed the Flame Deluge."

Literature

Live Action TV

  • Homaged in the Babylon 5 episode "The Deconstruction Of Falling Stars" where the Rangers are secretly behind a monastic order dedicated to the preservation of knowledge on an After the End Earth.

Video Games

  • Civilization: Beyond Earth: Purity's philosophy is stated to be heavily inspired by A Canticle for Leibowitz, with a dash of G.K. Chesterton in for good measure.
  • Fallout: the Brotherhood of Steel is inspired on the monks of the Albertian Order of Leibowitz. Fallout 2 even included a cut location where you would find an abbey with monks that preserve pre-war knowledge.
  • Wasteland 3: The nuclear apocalypse is referred to as "the deluge of fire."
  • Crusader Kings II: The mod After the End: A Post-Apocalyptic America is heavily inspired by the book, complete with the actual abbey and The Order of St. Leibowitz being present in-game, both being led by a certain abbot Arkos at the start, Pope ruling over New Rome (St. Louis) and a possibility to form the nation of Texarkana.
