Tropes

  • Anti-Climax: Yami finally gets to see the inscription that is supposed to restore his lost memories... but it's written in Ancient Egyptian which he can't read because he lost his memories.
  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: When Marik fully undresses to show off his tattoo, Yami is shocked by his "giant cock" and Tea passes out from lust. Pixellation and being shot from waist up means the audience doesn't see anything.
  • Death Glare: Melvin insists that he can still rule the world as nothing but a floating eyeball via this trope.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Parodied. The idea that losing a card game could somehow cure Marik's many implied mental illnesses is openly mocked, especially when his "happy ending" involves sending him right back to the place where he was abused to the point of insanity. Not to mention how Easily Forgiven he is for his past crimes.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Mai and Serenity are rightfully called out for tricking everyone into thinking Mai was comatose.
Tristan: I've seen some fucked up things in my time, but that was the fuck-est up-est.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: After being restored a hungry Bakura eats up a bunch of food he finds, which he's dismayed to learn was charity meant to go to orphans. This immediately makes the gang conclude he's irredeemably evil.
  • Female Gaze: Téa doesn't even try to hide that she's clearly eyeing Marik after he strips, to the point that it temporarily leaves her in a stupor.
  • Freudian Slip: Marik accidentally claims that all the dudes love his tattoo before doing a Verbal Backspace to change it to "ladies".
  • Graceful Loser: Marik surrenders the duel to Yami.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Joey can't figure out why his objectification of Mai drove her away.
  • Irony: Yami declares he's gonna utterly decimate Joey in their duel for the sole fact that he uses Swordsman of Landstar unironically. A few turns later, Joey actually wins with Swordsman of Landstar.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Marik decides that finally revealing his tattoo to the protagonists is the perfect opportunity to go nude. He's able to render Tea clinically brain dead this way.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Sending Melvin to the Shadow Realm automatically freed everyone that he had sent there himself. Including Yami Bakura.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Téa's line, which Joey calls her out on for making it sound like a good thing that he almost died.
Téa: [Actual 4Kids "Dialogue"] Just think Joey, if you hadn't passed out they wouldn't have sent this helicopter to help you, and we would still be stuck on the island.
  • Not So Above It All: Serenity helps May trick Joey and the gang into thinking she's in a coma, just for laughs.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Joey beats Yami in a card game. It was implied to be a Curbstomp Battle to boot.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: Joey asks Marik to put his pants back on after he strips, due to Téa being unable to function while he's naked.
  • Running Gag: Stop ruining Yu-Gi-Oh!!
  • Series Continuity Error: Kaiba and Mokuba go off to "build" Kaibaland even though it had appeared in season one already built.
  • Shameless Fanservice Guy: Marik thinks nothing of stripping naked to show his tattoo... despite the fact the tattoo is on his back and he could have kept his pants on.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Take That, Audience!: There's a brief joke where Yami chews Marik out just because he forgot to call Ra "Mega Ultra Chicken" in the previous episode, which is a pretty clear jab at all the fans who thought that error was even worth complaining about.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Yami substitutes "Kuribohs" for "balls".
  • We Can Rule Together: Melvin promises this to Marik in a last-ditch effort to save his own life. Marik doesn't take the bait.
