Recap / Yu-Gi-Oh Anime S 2 E 94 A Duel Of Destiny (2)

Go To

The episode begins with Kaiba having the upper hand in the Duel, but Ishizu still insists that her vision will come true and he will lose the Duel. She quickly turns the tables with "Exchange of the Spirit," drastically reducing the number of cards in his deck to just six (the number of cards that were in the graveyard). He panics, and Ishizu manages to defeat almost all of his remaining cards. He is forced to use "Soul Exchange" to sacrifice three of her monsters in order to summon Obelisk the Tormentor, but since Ishizu predicted this and planned to activate a trap card when he attacks, she is ready for victory.

Kaiba is about to do exactly that when, out of nowhere, the Millennium Rod activates and gives him a vision of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon carved in stone. This makes him realize just what monster he needs in order to win, and so he sacrifices Obelisk to summon said monster and win the Duel. Ishizu is absolutely shocked that her predictions turned out, in the end, to be false.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Badass Boast: Kaiba, after he announces his intention to sacrifice Obelisk to bring out his Blue-Eyes White Dragon, a move that completely changes the outcome of the Duel from what Ishizu's Necklace had predicted would happen:
Kaiba: Hear me now! I won't be controlled! I decide my future!
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Ishizu is able to infect Zolga with Sacrifice's Blast without informing Kaiba, which of course isn't possible in the real world.
  • Graceful Loser: Ishizu looks calm when Kaiba is using the Blue-Eyes White Dragon to defeat her.
  • Oh, Crap!: Ishizu, when Kaiba is sacrificing Obelisk and Gadget Soldier to summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, making her victory towards him null and void, combined with the Millennium Rod activating on its own to show Kaiba that the Blue-Eyes is what causes his win.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Sacrifice's Blast can apparently only be transferred once, given that it's nullified once Kaiba summons Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
  • Screw Destiny: Ishizu's Millennium Necklace shows her that when Kaiba attacks with Obelisk, her trap will activate and destroy it, winning her the Duel. Then the Millennium Rod shows Kaiba a vision that makes him switch tactics and summon the Blue-Eyes White Dragon instead, something that Ishizu didn't see coming.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: This is Yami Marik, Joey and Tea's response when Kaiba decides to tribute Obelisk instead of attacking with it.
    Yami Marik: Ridiculous!
    Joey: No way, man!
    Tea: What's he thinking?!
    Yami Yugi: It can't be!
