The Outsiders head to Cuba to stop Klarion, while Violet learns a drawback to her unusual nature.
- All Your Powers Combined: Klarion's flesh monster absorbs the powers of the meta-teens he magically traps within it, also growing larger as he feeds more into it. It gets a huge boost in strength and size when he traps Wonder Girl inside it.
- And I Must Scream: The meta-teens trapped inside Klarion's monster can only scream helplessly from within.
- Ascended Meme: "Now, THAT'S a rutabaga!"
- Brick Joke: The ending is an outside shot of the Tower of Fate, and the viewer hears Klarion, still fruitlessly trying to teleport out.
- Creative Closing Credits: Klarion continues to try and escape the Tower of Fate and fails over the credits looking at its exterior.
- Delinquents: Harper Row is revealed to spend after-school time getting blitzed and shooting a gun at the beach.
- Drowning My Sorrows: Violet joins Harper for some shooting and booze after learning that she's dying.
- Faking the Dead: When Klarion tries to zap Beast Boy, Beast Boy shifts into a hornet at the last second and drops his communicator so Klarion will think he's been vaporized. He then spends the next few minutes stinging Klarion.
- Godzilla Threshold: Zatanna joins the Cuba mission when she learns that Klarion will be there, even though Cuba won't allow the League to help, because Klarion is way too powerful for the Outsiders to stop.
- Instant Expert: Violet is a crack shot with a pistol, even though, so far as we know, she's never used a gun before.
- Know When to Fold Them: Klarion decides to try escaping when he realizes that Zatanna has sent them to the Tower of Fate, where Nabu has a Homefield Advantage. Unfortunately, the tower has a form of Teleport Interdiction that bounces him to other parts of the tower every time he tries.
- Meat Puppet: Halo occupies Gabrielle Daou's body, which is dying.
- Oh, Crap!: Klarion has one when he realizes that Zatanna has transported them to the Tower of Fate.
- One of Us: An in-universe invoked version. Eduardo points out that the teens at the metahuman center can't really connect with the Outsiders, who are motivated in large part by said teens' trauma, because said team is made up of celebrities (Gar and Brion), legacy titles (Bart, Jaime and Cassie), or are unknown (Virgil). He wants to join the team because he feels that seeing one of their own will help with their issues.
- Possession Burnout: Gabrielle Daou's body is expected to only last months, decaying more everytime Halo uses her violet aura to heal.
- The Reveal: Violet learns from Dr. Jace that she's slowly dying. Dr. Jace used Violet's strand of hair from "Illusion of Control" to find this out.
- Shout-Out: Beast Boy transforms into a green hornet.
- Super-Empowering: Klarion's assignment for The Light involves magically activating the metagene. He seems largely successful with no apparent mortality rate.
- Superpower Russian Roulette: A downplayed example. Klarion used magic to awaken the meta genes in abducted children, resulting in random powers. One of them grows gills, but loses the ability to breath air. Klarion tosses her in with the flesh monster with the rest of the group, which seems to keep her alive until they are freed, at which point she starts suffocating again. Fortunately they were on the coast.
- Teleport Interdiction: The Tower of Fate prevents Klarion from teleporting out. Each time he tries, he simply portals into another part of the tower.
- Training from Hell: After a sparring session, Artemis can tell that Tara has been through this due to her own experience with it under her father. It's also Deconstruction: Deathstroke's methods (beating Tara until she figures out the counter move herself) weren't actually effective in teaching her combat and Artemis is able to floor her rather easily.
