On the way towards Colony 9's Residential District, Shulk's group ends up getting surrounded by the Mechon.     1) The Mechon Attack
The residents of Colony 9 are caught off-guard by the sound of a different siren going off that's not for warning of falling debris, but for something else. Unable to believe what's happening, they look to the sky and see the Mechon that they thought to be dead flying high above the colony. In addition, there's one particularly large singular Mechon flying around all the others. The Mechon carriers begin dropping their land units upon Colony 9 as Colonel Vangarre gives the order for his soldiers to get the Anti-Air Batteries online along with evacuating the citizens to a safe place.

The Anti-Air Batteries begin firing up at the invading Mechon, and land a shot upon the notable large Mechon, but it turns out that there was no effect. Said Mechon transforms itself to reveal that it has a face, and has large claws for hands, which leaves everyone even more confused as to what they're looking at. Vangarre orders the Anti-Air Batteries to keep firing at the Face-Mechon only for said Face-Mechon to easily dodge the shots, and easily swoops down upon Colony 9 to destroy one of the Anti-Air Batteries. As the lesser Mechon land units finally land within Colony 9, the scared residents start running for their lives. Meanwhile, Dunban is seen getting out of bed knowing that he needs to help out, even though it's quite clear that his injured right arm still hasn't fully healed.

    2) Putting Up a Fight
As the land Mechon go about destroying Colony 9 and attacking any Homs citizen they come across, Shulk, Reyn and Fiora arrive back at the colony entrance unable to believe the horror they're seeing. Fiora heads home to check on Dunban while Shulk and Reyn fight to disable the first Mechon that approaches them.

    3) To the Lab
After the fight against the first Mechon, Fiora returns to inform them that Dunban's gone. Shulk suggests that they should head for the Weapon Development Lab in order to retrieve the Monado, which the 3 of them begin to make their way toward's Colony 9 Fortress as their home continues to be overrun by the Mechon.

    4) The Sneering Face
Shulk's group arrives at the Colony 9 Fortress only to see Colonel Vangarre and his men struggling to hold the line, which they begin retreating despite Vangarre's order to continue fighting. The Face-Mechon from before returns, but Vangarre isn't intimidated, and attempts to blast the Face-Mechon with a rocket. However, the Face-Mechon remains unharmed, and proceeds to drop a vehicle on Vangarre; supposedly killing him, and then flies away.

    5) Launching the Mobile Artillery
Reyn swears revenge against the Mechon for the death of his fellow soldiers, but as Shulk's group enters the Fortress, they soon discover that the entrance to the lab is now blocked by large debris. With the path forward blocked, Shulk's group comes up with the idea to retrieve the crashed Mobile Artillery Unit still in the Residential District, and use its weapons to blow away the debris in order to get into the lab.

    6) Reyn's Promise
As Shulk, Reyn, and Fiora start to make their way towards the Residential District, they get cut off and surrounded by a large group of Mechon. Shulk suggests for Fiora to run ahead to refuel the Mobile Artillery Unit as he and Reyn hold off the Mechon. Despite Fiora refusing at first out of worry for her friends, she agrees to go through with it once Reyn promises that the Mechon won't get a single scratch on Shulk. Fiora asks for Reyn to also take care of himself, which she then runs off alone to the Residential District.

    7) The Hero of the Homs
Shulk and Reyn battle the Mechon until debris falls that separates the two of them. The debris also ends up blocking the path forward to the Residential District. Unable to handle things on his own, Reyn's on the verge of dying to the Mechon as Shulk's unable to reach him, but they're saved by the Monado-wielding Dunban disposing of the Mechon surround. It turned out that Dunban got the Monado out of the lab before the arrival of Shulk's group, which he apologizes for making them wait. Dunban then joins up with Shulk and Reyn to dispose of the remaining Mechon attacking them.

    8) Fiora's Resolve
After the Mechon attacking them are disposed of, Dunban asks where Fiora went, which Shulk informs him about their goal to reach the Residential District. Due to debris now blocking the path to said district, Reyn figures that their only option is to take a long way around. As a result, Dunban suggests that they cut through Colony 9's Commercial District in order to reach the Residential District's back entrance. Meanwhile, Fiora's seen in the Residential District having made it to the crashed Mobile Artillery Unit.

    9) The Sword of Future Sight
Shulk, Reyn and Dunban fight their way through Colony 9's Commercial District, but upon reaching a bridge on the other side of said district, Dunban ends up dropping the Monado due to his injury, and is now on the verge of fully collapsing having reached his limit at trying to control the Monado. With a force of Mechon approaching them, Shulk comes to the decision. He takes hold of the Monado, and charges forward. As Shulk attempts to control the Monado, he ends up seeing a brief vision of a Mechon laser striking him. Following the vision, Shulk's able to dodge the laser as if he just dodged a bullet, and then has another vision right after that allows him to dodge a Mechon's melee strike.

Watching the battle from afar, Dunban and Reyn remain in shock at the sight of Shulk successfully and painlessly using the Monado, which the two of them then charge in as well to fight alongside Shulk. Dunban asks Shulk how he's holding up using the Monado, which Shulk answers he's okay. Shulk explains how something strange happened to him just now. A moment as if he had just seen into the future. Shulk questions if what he just experienced is another power of the Monado, which Reyn finds it hard to believe.

Dunban eventually accepts this to be the truth as Dickson had once mentioned to him that the Monado has a hidden power behind it, and wonders if this is it, which catches Shulk's attention. As the battle with the Mechon resumes, Dunban orders Shulk to believe in what the Monado's showing him, and continue the fight. Accepting the order, Shulk with the Monado battles it out with the Mechon with Reyn and Dunban supporting him. Like Dunban before him, Shulk's capable of using the Monado's two abilities: the blue-symboled Buster Monado to deal double the damage to Mechon, and the violet-symboled Enchant Monado to allow allies to damage Mechon.

    10) Metal Face
Shulk's group fights through the Mechon over to the back entrance of Colony 9's Residental District only to be met by the Face-Mechon now dubbed as "Metal-Face." As a result, Shulk, Reyn and Dunban prepare themselves to fight the powerful enemy before them.

    11) Loss
Shulk, Reyn, and Dunban fight Metal-Face, but it turns out that the Monado is unable to damage the Face-Mechon, which Shulk theorizes is due to the odd light that Metal-Face is giving off. Metal-Face ends up knocking all three of them down, and proceeds to keep Shulk, Reyn and Dunban stuck to the ground using some sort of magnetic energy ability. Before Metal-Face could finish them off however, it's struck from behind by Fiora now piloting the Mobile Artillery Unit.

As the fight between Metal-Face and Fiora begins, Shulk ends up seeing a vision of her eventually being killed after Metal-Face disables her Mobile Artillery Unit. Despite Shulk begging her to stop, Fiora continues to fight out of her desire to protect everyone in Colony 9. Metal-Face damages the Mobile Artillery Unit, but Fiora manages to get up close, and shoots Metal-Face point blank in its face with the artillery cannon. The explosion knocks Fiora back with her Mobile Artillery Unit having been disabled, but it shocks her to see that while Metal-Face finally took damage to its face, it remains perfectly fine to keep attacking.

The trapped Shulk then watches in horror as his Fiora vision plays out in real time. Metal-Face swings Fiora's Mobile Artillery Unit into a nearby building, and then proceeds to stab Fiora with one of its claws; resulting in her death. Other Mechon forces arrive to eat away at what's left of Fiora and her Mobile Artillery Unit as Metal-Face stands before Shulk with its claw covered in Fiora's blood, just like what was seen in the vision. Shulk's so overcome with rage that he brings himself to shake off the energy ability keeping him trapped, reactivates the Monado, and stands before Metal-Face yelling that he will kill it.

    12) The Youths Set Out
Dunban and Reyn support Shulk once more to battle Metal-Face again, and while Shulk's eventually able to stab the Monado into Metal-Face's head, it's still not enough, and it proceeds to defeat the group again. However, Metal-Face looks up at the sky signaling the Mechon to retreat, which causes Metal-Face to fly away as well; giving one last look at Dunban. Thus, leaving Shulk's group in anger that Metal-Face got away.

The next day following the Mechon's retreat from Colony 9, Shulk's seen at Outlook Park still shaken over Fiora's death. Reyn arrives to check on Shulk having not seen Dunban yet given that he just lost his little sister. However, Shulk had already seen Dunban as a flashback is seen of the visit to his home. Shulk doesn't know how to console Dunban over Fiora's death, but it's Dunban that does the consoling instead; claiming that he won't cry as he had already suffered the loss of many friends during the "Battle of Sword Valley." Thus, he tells Shulk that the latter should "treasure the gift of life that Fiora has given him."

Returning to the present, Shulk informs Reyn that he's decided to pursue Metal-Face and destory it, which Reyn agrees as he desires that as well. Though Reyn finds it surprising that Shulk of all people was the one to say it believing that the latter would try to talk the former out of it. Taking a look at Colony 9 from Outlook Park, Reyn asks when they should head off, which Shulk answers that they'll be leaving right now, much to Reyn's agreement.

Shortly after, Shulk and Reyn are seen departing from Colony 9. Dunban watches their departure from his window making a promise to himself that he will catch up to them once his arm's healed, and that together, they will seize their destiny. Meanwhile, Dickson is seen having also watched Shulk and Reyn's departure.
