Recap / Xenoblade Chronicles One Chapter Eight

Go To

The 8th chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles 1. Chapter 8 centers around Shulk and his companions' adventure on the Bionis' neck where in order to gain access to the Prison Island that's near the Bionis' head, they must be given an imperial sanction from the Emperor of the Bionis' High Entia people that live within the nearby floating capital city of Alcamoth. To do so requires that they help Melia, the High Entia's princess, become the Emperor's official successor, which it turns out that there's a conspiracy going on trying to have her killed off.

1) Eryth Sea

Shulk's group arrives at the Eryth Sea near the head of the Bionis. Along the coast of the sea, they stand before the two massive floating structures hovering above: the High Entia's capital of Alcamoth, and their destination, the dark-looking place known as Prison Island. Melia takes a moment to ask why the group's so interested in going to Prison Island, which Shulk explains that it's to resolve the mystery as to why the Homs colonies were suddenly attacked by the Mechon. The group also notes how technologically advanced Alcamoth looks, such as the sight of the anti-Mechon defense vehicles flying around. In return, Melia states that even she doesn't know why that's the case despite having lived in Alcamoth her whole life. Reyn then asks how they're supposed to enter the flying capital city, which Melia points them in the direction of a nearby transporter platform along the Eryth Sea coastline.

2) Parting with Melia

Shulk and company arrive at the Eryth Sea's transporter platform only to be greeted by several High Entia imperial guard appearing out of it from Alcamoth. They greet Melia honorably by kneeling before her much to the group's confusion, and Shulk ends up having a Monado vision of Melia kneeling within some mysterious altar room. Melia doesn't choose to explain what's going on, but she assures Shulk and company that she will arrange an audience for them with the Emperor regarding their need for the imperial sanction for Prison Island, and then departs into the transporter ahead of them with the imperial soldiers. Shulk's group remains on standby at the transportation platform, which they start to get the gist of what's going on that Melia must be a member of High Entia royalty to have such respect amongst the guards. During the wait however, they're greeted by another group of imperial guards out of the transporter, which they arrest Shulk's group due to them deeming them as a threat.

Meanwhile, Melia's seen teleporting into Alcamoth, and makes her way to the palace's Audience Chamber.

3) Alcamoth, the Imperial Capital

As Melia arrives at the royal citadel, her watching step-mother, First Consort Yumea, is seen watching from a high balcony. Yumea remains disgusted to see that the half-blood completed the Makna Forest job. With Yumea is Tyrea, a masked High Entia woman serving Yumea, which she assures the First Consort that she will make sure that she will eventually kill Melia without being noticed. A High Entia woman dressed in red then appears with them assuring Yumea and Tyrea that they will have their chance to claim the throne.

4) In the Audience Chamber

Within the palace's Audience Chamber, Melia steps before her father, Emperor Sorean Antiqua. Thus, revealing that Melia is actually the princess of the High Entia, and is half-Homs due to her mother, the Second Consort, being a Homs. Standing with the Emperor to watch the meeting is Melia's older brother, Prince Kallian, and Alcamoth's head of the Ministry of Research and Records, Lorithia, who's the red High Entia woman scheming with Yumea and Tyrea. Despite the loss of the four guards she set out with to Makna Forest, Sorean congratulates Melia for the victory over the Telethia. Kallian also reveals to Melia that they had Shulk and company arrested when they found out that they had the Monado in their possession, much to Melia's confusion. In return, Kallian points her to the Bionis vs. Mechonis mural in the hall, and explains the legend that the Monado will spell the end of the High Entia should it end up in the wrong hands. Despite Melia trying to assure them that Shulk's group are good people, Sorean and Kallian remain cautious to keep them locked up until they have confirmation from their Divine Seer.

Emperor Sorean leaves the Audience Chamber, which leaves Melia alone with her older brother. Kallian assures his little sister that she just needs to be patient, and that Emperor Sorean has already deemed Melia worthy to be his successor as the future Empress, much to Melia's surprise that she's been named as the successor. Kallian having agreed with this after Melia proved herself capable of defeating the Telethia. Melia remains unconvinced given that she lost the four soldiers supporting her, but Kallian reassures her to take pride in herself once she's engraved the losses on her heart. Kallian then leaves, which Melia is then approached by Lorithia. The latter of which assures Melia that her Ministries of Research and Records backs the Emperor's decision to make Melia the new High Entia Empress. Lorithia then assures Melia that her companions will be free to do as they please if they're deemed not a threat to the High Entia by the Divine Seer.

Meanwhile, Shulk's group remain locked up in a fancy high room of Alcamoth's Whitewing Palace. Reyn remains in a bad mood being locked up, but Shulk remains convinced that Melia won't let them down, which Reyn agrees to wait it out.

5) The Divine Seer

Alcamoth's Divine Seer eventually arrives at Shulk and company's Whitewing Palace room, which the seer turns out to be Alvis. He assures Shulk's group that they didn't cause trouble for Melia, and that their imprisonment was just worry over a legend concerning the Monado that spans to a millennia ago. Claiming that he will take full responsibility, Alvis informs the imperial guards that Shulk's group poses no threat to the High Entia, and orders for their release, which they accept. Alvis then states to Shulk and company that they can use the current Whitewing Palace room as their home base during their stay at Alcamoth. In return, Shulk desires to speak with Alvis given the past oddities between the two of them, but Alvis asks for Shulk to be patient as the answers will come in time. After Alvis departs, an imperial guard then arrives to inform everyone of an S.O.S call from one of their High Entia squadrons asking for help at one of Alcamoth's transporters, which Shulk's group agrees to help out.

6) In the Tomb

Alvis arrives before Emperor Sorean, Yumea and Kallian to inform them of his decision to release Shulk's group, which Sorean accepts. The Emperor then asks how the Telethia that attacked Makna Forest became so dangerous, which Alvis reveals that due to the high levels of ether gathering within said forest, it's a sign that the Bionis is finally reawakening. However, as someone who can see the future like Shulk, Alvis assures the Emperor and company that despite the Monado clouding his vision, he can see a sliver of light surrounding Melia and Shulk's group that has him convinced that the Monado won't bring about their destruction. In return, Sorean announces that they should move on ahead with the ceremony to announce Melia as his successor only for Yumea to choose this moment to speak up.

Yumea suggests to put Melia through the Trial of the Tomb to earn the respect of the High Entia people, which Sorean and Kallian disagree with given that the tomb is extremely dangerous. However, Yumea manages to convince Sorean by warning him that avoiding such a task could cause controversy, and that Melia passing the trial wouldn't just earn the people's respect, but would seal the people's love for her. Shortly after, Melia arrives before Sorean and company, and accepts the task to take on the Trial of the Tomb as she deems it necessary to prove that she's capable to be Empress despite her half-Homs heritage. While Sorean, Kallian and Alvis accept Melia's answer, Yumea remains disgusted, and thinks to herself that Melia's not fit to be Empress.

Elsewhere, Shulk's group is seen at the Alcamoth transporter having saved the worker who called the S.O.S from a pack of Kromar creatures. They then head back to Whitewing Palace now that the task is done.

7) The Two Consorts

From their Whitewing Palace room, Shulk and company watch the royal celebration unfold at the royal citadel. Shulk's group witnesses Emperor Sorean Antiqua for the first time as he announces to his High Entia people from a high balcony that after 20 years, he's named his successor. Said successor then appears next to him. Melia appears wearing a ceremony mask and fully-enclosed headdress, which surprises Shulk and Reyn that Melia was that high in royalty. Sorean then explains how Melia will be taking the trial at the High Entia Tomb in order to receive the ancestors blessing at becoming the new Empress. Melia kneels before Sorean to show that she's accepting the task, which results in Shulk having a Monado vision where he sees Melia come under attack by a Telethia within the tomb.

Yumea is seen on the palace balcony watching Sorean and Melia from behind until she departs. Voicing her disgust about the people not seeing Melia's contaminated blood, Yumea holds a private meeting with Tyrea, who informs the First Consort that the pieces are now in place to remove Melia and her companions. Yumea accepts the results as Kallian can be seen stumbling upon his mother's conversation, which he chooses to watch Yumea's meeting with Tyrea from afar. Yumea states how she's tired of the royal bloodline being contaminated with Homs blood, and orders Tyrea to go through with the plan, which Tyrea accepts. The mask that Tyrea wears ends up catching Kallian's attention.

Back at Whitewing Palace, Shulk's companions note how Melia comes off different compared to other High Entia, which is probably why she has to wear a mask given that she's a half-Homs. Due to the Monado vision he just saw, Shulk proceeds to warn the group that Melia's in trouble. Before he could further explain what's going on, five female High Entia assassins burst into the room aiming to kill Shulk and company.

8) Inquisitor of the Bionite Order

Shulk's group manages to dispose of the assassins as Alvis arrives afterwards having seen the attack as a Divine Seer. Alvis realizes that Shulk and company were attacked by Inquisitors as Kallian and his imperial guards then arrive as Alvis' back-up. However, Alvis informs Kallian that they appear to have missed out on the fun, which the latter questions who the Inquisitors are. In return, Alvis answers that the attackers appear to be members of the Bionite Order, a group of assassins that serve the imperial family from the shadows. Kallian finds that hard to believe since the Bionite Order is just supposed to be an age old myth, but Alvis assures him that this is proof that the order still exist, and that Emperor Sorean might not have even known about it. Kallian thinks back to what he saw of Yumea's meeting with Tyrea, and concludes that it had to be the two of them that sent out the Bionite Order assassins after Shulk's group. Shulk then reveals to them the danger that Melia's in where she gets attacked within the High Entia Tomb, which he reveals to Kallian that he's similar to Alvis in that he can see visions of the future.

Meanwhile, Melia is seen having arrived at the High Entia Tomb, and was accompanied by Lorithia. The latter of which reminds Melia that she must face the tomb's ritual alone, and bids the girl farewell, which Melia remains determined to take on the tomb, and then goes beyond the tomb's entrance.

Back at the Whitewing Palace room, Kallian refuses to go help Melia as it's part of the ritual that she must complete the Trial of the Tomb on her own. Reyn calls out Kallian for ditching his own sister only for Dunban to point out the loop-hole that the High Entia Tomb's trial seems to only affect High Entia. Thus, it should be possible to interfere as long as those of the Homs race enter the tomb. Kallian is unable to deny it, which Dunban states that they can indeed be the ones to go save Melia. Kallian questions who Dunban is, which the latter introduces himself. In return, Kallian realizes that he's in front of the Homs hero who won the "Battle of Sword Valley," and accepts the plan to have Shulk's Homs group infiltrate the High Entia Tomb.

9) The Legend of the Monado

Alvis leads Shulk's group to the Entrance of the High Entia Tomb. Before going in, Shulk notes how odd it is that Alvis is a Divine Seer for the High Entia despite being a Homs. In return, Alvis answers that that's a story for another time due to his ancestry being quite complicated to explain, but he explains how his future-sight is its own ritual. However, Shulk notes how different his Monado visions are as they tend to come up random and without warning. Given that Alvis couldn't even see the danger that Melia's currently in, he theorizes that Shulk's future-sight is actually the stronger one. Shulk finds that hard to believe when he's seen that Alvis is already fully capable of utilizing the Monado, which causes Alvis to break out into a speech about how the Monado was passed down for generations as the sword of the Bionis, and that along with the High Entia sealing it away, it eventually ended up in the hands of the Homs. In addition, that he just knew how to will the Monado to do his bidding when he taught Shulk how to use the Monado Purge. He states that Shulk is now the one who wields the Monado, and that its during a time that the Bionis is starting to stir. Shulk's group and Alvis then enter the High Entia Tomb.

Meanwhile, Melia's seen continuing to make her way deeper into the tomb. As she gets closer to the ancestral altar, she remains determined to take on whatever trial awaits her.

10) The High Entia Tomb

Within the tomb, Melia eventually reaches a door with a scanner that asks for her identity. Melia introduces herself as the High Entia's next Empress that needs to be judged by the ancestral spirits on her legitimacy to the throne. The door proceeds to scan Melia, and then opens for her after confirming her royal bloodline.

Shortly after, Shulk's group arrives at the scanner. Before they could figure out how to get through, Reyn's curiosity gets the better of him as he ends up touching the scanner. The scanner realizes that the one who touched it is a Homs intruder, which results in a trap door opening that drops Shulk and company down to another area of the High Entia Tomb.

11) Their Future Sovereign

Melia eventually arrives at the Ceremony Hall within the High Entia Tomb, and kneels before the ancestral altar. The altar shines, which results in Melia hearing the voices of a High Entia ancestor only for it to turn out that it's just the altar replicating said voice. The altar congratulates Melia for making it to the altar, and is glad based on what Melia's scanning reads that the High Entia's integration with the Homs has reached as high as 80% at this point in life. Melia questions why this is important, which the altar explains that it's the wish of the ancestors to be rid of the genetic pure-blood curse that is within all High Entia. That pure-bloods are bound to the Bionis due to said curse. Melia remains confused as to why this is important, but the ancestors don't deem this important at the moment, which it proceeds to give Melia the seal. The result is a beam of light from the altar engraving a seal upon Melia's forehead, which then disappears. Thus, showing that Melia has completed the Trial of the Tomb.

Before Melia could leave, it's at this point that Tyrea appears at the ancestral altar having caught on that the ancestral spirits have accepted Melia as the High Entia's new ruler. Melia orders the intruder to explain how she broke into the tomb. In return, Tyrea answers that it's because she's a subject of the First Consort, which Melia realizes that her step-mother's behind this. Tyrea announces that an impure child of the Second Consort has no right to the throne as she stands ready to duel Melia.

Elsewhere, Shulk and his companions are seen regrouping out of a pool of water that they dropped down to from the tomb's trap door. Shulk and company then proceed to scold Reyn for causing trouble for them, which Reyn argues at first, but is forced to eventually accept it given that everyone's against him. Seeing the exit out of the water pool room, Alvis warns the group that while they can still reach Melia from here, they will have to take the longer route to reach her. As a result, Shulk's group departs from the water pool room to head deeper into the High Entia Tomb.

12) The Tomb's Guard

Shulk's group arrives at a tomb room where they spot a large glowing blue sphere hovering above a platform. The sphere then forms a golem-like creature called an Orluga Rufus that attacks Shulk and company, which they realize that said golems serve as the tomb's defensive guards that Shulk's group have to fight through.

13) Towards the Ceremony Hall

After disposing of the Orluga Rufus guard, Alvis assures the group that the route to the ancestral altar lies just ahead. The group then enters the next High Entia Tomb tunnel to reach Melia's location.

14) Inquisitor Tyrea

Fighting through other Orluga Rufus golems, Shulk and company eventually make it to the ancestral altar at the exact moment that Tyrea's about to attack Melia. Suddenly, the Telethia that Shulk saw from his Monado vision appears from the ceiling, and goes to Tyrea's side to attack Melia and company. With the support of a powerful Solidum Telethia, Tyrea proceeds to attack Melia and her companions in an attempt to kill off everyone.

15) The Bionis' Wish

Shulk and company manage to defeat Tyrea and her Solidum Telethia, which the Telethia gives off an explosion. Alvis relies on his mysterious powers to absorb the Telethia's explosion, which keeps the group safe, but Tyrea managed to escape during the distraction. Regrouping with Melia, Shulk informs her how they knew that she was in trouble due to a Monado vision, which she thanks everyone for the rescue. After a bit of celebration, they then depart from the High Entia Tomb.

Afterwards, Melia and Alvis are seen within the Audience Chamber informing Emperor Sorean and Prince Kallian of what transpired from the Bionite Order's assassination attempt on Shulk's group to what went down within the High Entia Tomb. After hearing the story, Sorean's left in disbelief that there's been a Bionite Order controlling Alcamoth from the shadows, but Alvis assures him that the current order is just a remnant as the original Bionite Order was disbanded by the High Entia's past Emperor Lumian due to disliking their extreme practices. Alvis also reveals that First Consort Yumea has already been taking into custody for her role in leading the Alcamoth conspiracy, and that she's to be interrogated at the Tower of Investigation. With that settled, Sorean moves on to his daughter, which he's glad to see that Melia returned from the High Entia Tomb unharmed and with the ancestors' blessing. Melia remains unconvinced that she's worthy given that Shulk's group had to come save her, but Sorean and Kallian think differently, and ask for Melia to believe in herself. Sorean then announces that they will hold a ceremony tomorrow to make Melia his successor official, which Melia accepts.

Meanwhile at their Whitewing Palace room, Shulk and company remain on standby for news about Melia's meeting, which Dunban notes the oddity as to why Kallian wasn't chosen to be the next successor when he's the older sibling. The imperial guards then arrive to inform Shulk and company that the Emperor has summoned them to the Audience Chamber, which they accept and head off.

16) An Audience with the Emperor

Shulk arrives at the Audience Chamber, and is brought before Emperor Sorean and Kallian. Sorean proceeds to apologize for the earlier imprisonment while thanking the boy for saving his daughter, which Shulk apologizes in return for interfering with High Entia customs. This leaves a good impression on Sorean; glad to see that Melia's found such unselfish people to support her. Sorean then brings up how he heard that Shulk's seeking out the Mechon, which Shulk doesn't deny that he's seeking revenge for what the Mechon did to his home. Sorean accepts Shulk's goal, but also states that he has something to reveal to the boy regarding the Monado.

Shulk accepts to listen, which Sorean reminds the boy of the titan battle between the Bionis and Mechonis that went down eons ago. Shulk admits that it's a story amongst Homs that tells of the creation of their world, which Sorean nods is correct. Sorean then warns the boy that the Bionis is soon to awaken, which Shulk states that Alvis told him that as well. The Emperor then goes even further by explaining how the Telethia are as old as the Bionis itself, and that it's finally come to a point where the Telethia have begun to disturb the Bionis' ether. Shulk asks what this means, which Sorean proceeds to tell an old tale.

Sorean explains the tale of how it describes the Bionis reawakening when the ether starts to cry. That they should heed the signs of the eventual awakening, to heed the Monado's return, and to trap the Monado's power in order to assure eternal prosperity. Sorean then warns Shulk that the Mechon attacks are just the beginning, and that the Bionis' oddities going on now is a result of Shulk's actions choosing to act with the Monado. Shulk tries to explain that the Monado was needed for his fight against the Mechon, which Sorean admits is the case, but warns that Shulk must understand what will happen should all life perish if the Bionis awakens. In return, Shulk states the obvious answer that it means total extinction.

Emperor Sorean states that it's a must to stop the Mechon given that their attacks on Bionis are one of the signs that will lead to the titans' reawakening. In return, Shulk states that he and his companions require the imperial sanction to enter Prison Island. Sorean questions why Shulk needs to go there, which the boy reveals that he saw himself fighting a Face-Mechon there in a Monado vision. Sorean hints that he's seen such a vision before as well, and reveals to Shulk how Prison Island is home to something that the High Entia forefathers chose to seal away there. Shulk questions what it is, but Sorean admits that even he doesn't know what's there. Sorean then asks for Shulk to await his decision about the imperial sanction given that this is a choice of great stakes centered around the safefy of everyone on Bionis, which Shulk accepts to wait. Finally, Sorean asks something more personal to Shulk where he asks for the boy to continue to be Melia's friend, which Shulk accepts.

At that same time over on the Mechonis, the leader of the Mechon, Egil, gets updates from the Mechon-girl that was working on Face-Nemesis on what's currently going on over on Bionis. He's told that the Homs boy with the Monado has made it to the Eryth Sea atop the Bionis. Knowing that it's almost time for a certain event to occur due to the Telethia being on the move, and the Monado boy's only path at this point being to head to Prison Island, Egil gives the order for his forces to attack Bionis. Metal-Face and Face-Nemesis being sent out to lead the attack.

    1) Eryth Sea
After going through the Makna Forest portal, Shulk and company arrive at the Eryth Sea, which is located on the neck area behind the Bionis' head. Standing along the sea coastline, they see two massive floating structures before them: their destination, Prison Island, and a large white complex that looks technologically advanced. Reyn points out how amazing it is that the sea was right above Riki's forest home as Shulk remains confused as to why Melia hasn't questioned why they're trying to get to Prison Island. She tries to excuse herself as someone who doesn't pry into other people's business, but Reyn calls her out due to how obvious it is that it's bugging her. Shulk assures her that there's nothing to worry about now that they're friends, which Melia accepts it, and goes through with asking them why they're trying to get to Prison Island.

Shulk tells her their story so far starting from the Mechon attack on Colony 9, which Melia admits that while she heard of the Mechon attacks on the lower Bionis regions, she didn't know the situation had gotten so grave for the Homs; deeming her people living on the head to be the lucky ones. Their attention is then brought to the large black structure floating above the Eryth Sea, which Melia states to the group that it's their destination: Prison Island. She then points them in the other direction towards the large white structure floating above the Eryth Sea; stating that it's the imperial capital, Alcamoth, which has superior defenses. The sight of such a technologically advanced capital city amazes Shulk, and questions how this is possible, but Melia replies that despite living there, even she doesn't know why this is the case.

Getting back to the main problem at hand, Melia reminds Shulk and company of how they need an imperial sanction for access to Prison Island. Thus, they will need to travel to Alcamoth first. Reyn remains confused as to how they're supposed to reach a floating city, which Melia points them in the direction of a nearby ground platform situated along the Eryth Sea coastline. She states that it has the teleporter that will transport them into the capital. As they head off, Dunban takes notice of the anti-Mechon defence systems flying around Alcamoth.

    2) Parting with Melia
Shulk's group arrives at the ground teleport platform only to be met by several High Entia imperial guards appearing before them out of the teleporter. They kneel before their Lady Melia to welcome her home, which catches Shulk and company by surprise having believed Melia to just be a normal girl up to this point. Melia ignores their confusion, and greets the captain of the imperial guards standing before her. She explains that Shulk and company are her guests, and asks that they be taken safely to the guest quarters along with being given anything they may need, which the captain accepts.

The group remains confused as to what's going on, which causes Shulk to have one of his blue-eyed visions. He sees in the vision what looks like Melia kneeling in a mysterious altar room. Once the vision ends, Shulk tries to get Melia's attention, but Melia refuses to answer at the moment. However, she assures Shulk's group that at the very least, she will keep her promise to them regarding Prison Island, which Shulk accepts. Melia explains that she will arrange an audience with the Emperor, and asks that they wait for now at the teleporter, which Shulk agrees.

As Melia, followed by the High Entia imperial guards, goes through the portal to return to Alcamoth, Shulk's group remains standing in wait on the ground teleporter platform. Dunban notes Melia's respected "Lady" title, and asks if Shulk's thinking the same thing that Melia is most likely High Entia royalty, but Shulk remains convinced that Melia won't let them down, no matter what her position in society actually is. However, they're suddenly met once more by imperial guards appearing out of the teleporter. Only this time, they're armed and on-guard as if they've deemed Shulk's group to be a threat. In Alcamoth, Melia is seen appearing out of a teleporter into Alcamoth. Her destination being Alcamoth's Audience Chamber while thinking over her two objectives: to report the Telethia's defeat to His Majesty, and to request entry for Shulk's group into Prison Island.

    3) Alcamoth, the Imperial Capital
A High Entia woman named Yumea is seen watching Melia from a high balcony. Yumea expresses her irritation as she's being informed from another High Entia masked-woman named Tyrea that the Second Consort's child survived her ordeal. Tyrea apologizes for this happening, and vows to have Yumea's orders fulfilled, but Yumea warns Tyrea of the dangers of pulling anything while that girl remains in the capital. That His Majesty and his child's loathsome goons (the guards) will go to great lengths to keep his daughter safe.

Yumea asks how Tyrea plans to avoid the guards, and while Tyrea answers that she will do whatever it takes, Yumea remains unconvinced finding Tyrea's stupidity boring, and ends the conversation. At this point, another High Entia woman dressed in red appears behind Yumea and Tyrea. The red woman assures the two of them that they will have their chance once His Majesty's daughter stakes her claim to the throne.

    4) In the Audience Chamber
Melia arrives at the Audience Chamber, and kneels before a raised platform where three High Entia are standing before her. One of which is His Majesty, which is the man that Shulk was seeing with Melia in his visions, and another being the red woman that was just talking with Yumea and Tyrea. Melia, who turns out to be the First Princess, properly introduces herself, and that she's returned now that she's completed her quest. The Majesty, Emperor Sorean, asks Melia to raise her head in triumph as she did what countless veteran knights could not by defeating the Telethia that was raining havoc down upon them. He gives off a laugh unable to suppress his pride and joy over his daughter's success. Melia remains unconvinced blaming her inexperience for the losses of the four soldiers (Aizel, Hogard, Garan, and Damil) that were given to her for the quest, but Emperor Sorean assures his daughter that it was an honor and duty to them to fight alongside Melia despite knowing that she was inexperienced.

As Melia tries to talk back, Emperor Sorean asks that his daughter hold on to that frustration as it will remind her of the debt that she owes to the fallen. Dropping it, Melia gets to her other important subject regarding the group of Homs and Nopon that helped with her quest. It's at this point that the third person on the platform, Prince Kallian, speaks to inform Melia that Shulk and his companions have already been arrested by Imperial Security, much to her confusion. Kallian explains that the arrest was for reasons surrounding the weapon currently within Shulk's possession. Melia asks if he's referring to the Monado, which just hearing confirmation that said weapon actually is the Monado is more than enough to convince Kallian that they will be forced to take action. Melia's unable to understand what's going on as Kallian proceeds to reveal to her the legend that has passed down through the generations regarding the Monado.

Kallian explains the legend of how the Bionis itself bestows the blade upon a chosen one, but if said chosen one is black of heart, it will cause the destruction of the High Entia. Emperor Sorean adds that people of the High Entia have come out good and bad, which makes it obvious to think that it's the same for Homs and Nopon. As a result, in order to confirm if Shulk truly is the chosen one, they've decided to have him interrogated by their Divine Seer in order to see where his allegiances truly lie. Melia's unable to accept this knowing that this means that Shulk and company are to be confined as if they're prisoners. She tries to assure them that Shulk is of pure heart, but Emperor Sorean ignores it, and reminds Melia that being his successor, she still has a role of great importance to play, and that for now, she must be calm and patient.

The emperor then departs, which leaves Melia disheartened given what happened to Shulk's group. Kallian then approaches Melia to try to reassure her that their father is just trying to look out for his daughter as he already recognizes her as the crown princess. In other words, Emperor Sorean has made the decision that First Princess Melia is to be the next ruler of the High Entia. Melia's unable to understand given that Prince Kallian is her older brother, which would make him first in line to the throne. In return, Kallian explains that when their father asked for his opinion on the matter, Kallian stated his answer. That Melia would make a fine Empress as there's no one better suited to lead their people, especially after proving herself by defeating the Telethia.

Melia remains unconvinced that she's fit to rule due to the loss of her soldiers to the Telethia still hanging over her, and desires to visit their families, but Kallian reminds her that such actions aren't allowed. She adds that she can't help feeling guilt over it, which Kallian repeats what Emperor Sorean said that Melia should grieve their departing, and engrave their great deeds on her heart. Melia accepts her older brother's words. Trying to give her some last second reassurance before leaving, Kallian states that she's right to question mistakes, but also tells Melia to take pride in herself given that their father chose her for a reason. Kallian then leaves; leaving Melia alone still trying to process that she's going to eventually be Empress. Having been listening the whole time as the third High Entia member in the Audience Chamber alongside Emperor Sorean and Kallian, the red woman named Lorithia approaches Melia stating that the latter becoming Empress is indeed the case.

Minister Lorithia states that Alcamoth's Ministries of Research and Records, which she works as the lead researcher for, is united in support of His Majesty's decision for Melia to become Empress. Thus, she has no objection to the decision. Melia accepts Lorithia's statement, which Lorithia offers a bit of advice that the chosen one who currently wields the Monado might make for a useful tool. Lorithia adds that whatever Emperor Sorean decides regarding Shulk, she would accept it as she would never question His Majesty's decision. However, she reminds Melia of the Divine Seer intervening, which Melia realizes that said seer can potentially free Shulk and company. In return, Lorithia figures that the Seer and Shulk must be interacting as they speak.

At that same time, Shulk and his companions are seen imprisoned in a fancy looking room known as Whitewing Palace that overlooks Alcamoth. Reyn, Sharla, and Dunban remain confused as to what's going on while Shulk stays convinced that Melia is the type of person that keeps to her promises, and will get them to Prison Island. Thus, Reyn speaks for everyone accepting Shulk's decision to trust Melia.

    5) The Divine Seer
As Shulk and company remain sitting at the lone table in their Whitewing Palace prison room, the imperial guards arrive to inform them that they will be interrogated by their Divine Seer. The Seer then enters the room, which surprises Shulk when he realizes that Alvis is Alcamoth's Divine Seer. Alvis hears the story of Shulk's journey so far, and states that he now gets the gist of why they're here. Worried about Melia, Shulk hopes their actions didn't cause trouble for her, which Alvis assures him that she's fine.

Alvis then gets to the main topic as to why Shulk and company have been detained. That it has to do with the Monado due to a connection the weapon shares with the High Entia that goes back many millennia. Alvis then approaches the imperial guards guarding the doorway while assuring Shulk and company that he will make sure that they're not held for long, especially given that they're Melia's saviors. He orders the guards to free Shulk and company, and that along with Shulk's group now being considered guests of the imperial family, Alvis will take full responsibility for their actions while they're inside Alcamoth. The guard accepts this, which ends the imprisonment of Shulk's group. With his task done, Alvis states that he must go as he has to report his interrogation just now to His Majesty. He provides the Whitewing Palace room that Shulk and company are in currently as their place to stay and rest at Alcamoth, and that they're free to roam the city.

As Alvis turns to leave, Shulk desires to speak to him due to the mysteries surrounding their previous encounters, but Alvis asks him to be patient as Shulk will eventually learn the things he desires when the time is right. Following Alvis' departure, Shulk and his companions are motivated to get out of the room they've been stuck in. Before leaving, one of the imperial guards appears seeking to speak with Alvis, but to his shock, he's informed that Alvis has already left. Shulk asks what's going on, which the guard answers that one of their small squadrons repairing a transporter at Eryth Sea sent out an S.O.S. for help, and now, they've lost all contact with them. Shulk's group offer to help, and while the guard isn't comfortable accepting the aid of outsiders, he's still appreciative of all the help he can get.

    6) In the Tomb
At that same time, Alvis is seen in the Audience Chamber having just finished informing Emperor Sorean, Prince Kallian, and Yumea of what he discussed with Shulk and his companions. One of such stories was the battle with the Telethia, which Kallian is unable to understand how such a creature became so powerful. In return, Alvis states that the Telethia gained power due to the high levels of ether around the Makna Forest region. Thus, Alvis provides a warning of how it's a sign that their ether protection is weakening. The theory disheartens Emperor Sorean knowing that such a sign means that the Bionis is beginning to resurrect. His Majesty then asks about the Monado, but Alvis provides the bad news that he knows nothing due to his "sight" being hindered when it involves said weapon. However, Alvis assures Emperor Sorean that thanks to a sliver of light he sees through his hindered "sight," he's certain that the Monado won't bring about their destruction.

Alvis asks His Majesty if the latter's also seen this sliver of light, which Emperor Sorean questions if what the Divine Seer's referring to is Melia. Along with Melia, Alvis adds that Shulk's part of this sliver of light as well. Emperor Sorean questions if this means that Shulk truly is trustworthy, and seeing this as a significant moment, he orders Kallian to begin the investiture ceremony at once. Kallian replies that they may be able to bypass some of the formalities since Alcamoth's ministries are already in agreement, but while Emperor Sorean agrees, he believes that Melia will still be required to earn the blessing of the people. It's at this point that Yumea, revealed to be the Emperor's First Consort and Kallian's mother, finally speaks by suggesting that Melia take the Trial of the Tomb.

Emperor Sorean remains unconvinced as such a ritual hasn't been conducted for generations, but First Consort Yumea points out that said ritual just hasn't been necessary up to this point, and that she believes that Melia's more than up for the challenge. Kallian tries to talk his mother out of it due to the dangers of the Tomb's trial having killed many of their past potential successors. However, Yumea refuses to back down claiming that Melia's defeat of the Telethia is more than enough proof that she's strong enough to take on the trial. She also warns His Majesty and her son that if word was to get out that Melia avoided such a responsibility, her reputation would be irreparably damaged. Kallian once more rejects the idea, but Emperor Sorean becomes convinced. That while it's indeed a great risk for Melia to take the trial, the reward is even greater as it would seal the people's love for her. Thus, Emperor Sorean gives the order to summon Melia in order to hear her opinion on the matter.

Shortly after, Melia's seen in the Audience Chamber before Emperor Sorean, Kallian, Yumea, and Alvis; having just been told about the idea of her taking the Trial of the Tomb. Melia accepts the task already knowing it will be tough for her due to her mixed heritage, and states that she will do what must be done if she's to succeed the throne. In return, Emperor Sorean remains proud of his daughter's decision, and states that her going down a dangerous path to greatness will be her statement to the Bionis. However, Yumea remains disgusted as she thinks to herself that Melia will never be fit to be Empress. Her disgust ends up being noticed by Alvis.

At that same time, Shulk's group is seen outside Alcamoth completing the task of getting the High Entia squadron repairing the Alcamoth transporter out of danger. Following the rescue, Shulk and company return to the capital to rest.

    7) The Two Consorts
From their Whitewing Palace room, Shulk's group notices many High Entia citizens gathering outside the palace for some sort of ceremony. Using a magical vision tool in the room that acts like a television for them, Shulk and his companions get their first look at Emperor Sorean Antiqua, who appears at a balcony high above with Kallian and Yumea behind him, and breaks out into a speech to the people. Emperor Sorean explains that he's been Emperor for 20 years, and will continue to be Emperor for many more years, but he adds that he now stands before them in celebration as it's time to announce his successor. Thus, he announces to them their new crown princess, Melia Antiqua, who appears next to her father wearing a royalty garment along with a ceremonial mask that completely covers her face.

Other than Dunban who had a rough idea of what was going on, the announcement comes as a surprise to Shulk and company as they hadn't realized until now that Melia's a princess. Emperor Sorean then continues his speech by informing his people that Princess Melia will be departing immediately to face the Trial of the Tomb, which comes as a shock to all the watching High Entia given the Tomb's rough history towards past successors. His Majesty explains that Melia will be seeking the approval of their ancestors from within the trial, and that once she's done so, her being crown princess will officially be set in stone. Melia kneels before Emperor Sorean to show that she's accepted the task as the watching Shulk ends up having one of his blue-eyed visions. He once more sees Melia kneeling in the mysterious room, but she's then attacked by an unknown creature, which supposedly results in Melia being killed. Following the vision, Emperor Sorean, Melia, and Kallian are seen remaining on the balcony, but Yumea turns around and leaves.

Yumea arrives at a private location to speak with Tyrea, which Yumea states her disgust that Melia wearing a mask isn't enough to hide her contaminated blood. Tyrea informs the First Consort that all the pieces are in place, which the captive Homs (Shulk's group) will be no more if Yumea gives the order. Yumea remains convinced that His Majesty will turn a blind eye to the fate of the Homs while also seeing the benefit of removing such powerful allies from Melia's side. It's at this point that Kallian walks by, and notices the meeting going on between his mother and Tyrea. As Kallian watches from afar, Yumea vents her disgust of having to endure the continued contamination of their bloodline. Particularly, her as the Emperor's First Consort being High Entia, but the Emperor's Second Consort being a Homs. She questions how much longer she'll be suffering at the sight of the Homs, and proceeds to give the order to Tyrea to go through with the plan, which Tyrea accepts. Meanwhile, Kallian takes note of the mask that Tyrea's wearing.

Back to Shulk's group after hearing His Majesty's speech, Dunban's unable to understand why Melia was required to wear a mask. Shulk notes that Melia comes off different than others of her people, which Riki adds that she's friends to others and not just the High Entia "Bird People." Dunban agrees that her outside friendships may come off odd to the High Entia, but that there's clearly other things at play here that they don't understand. It's at this point that Shulk has a sudden realization, and informs the group that Melia needs their help. Reyn catches on that Shulk must have had another vision, but before Shulk could answer, they're suddenly met by a group of masked High Entia women dressed in red entering their Whitewing Palace room. Fully armed, the masked women attack Shulk's group, but are eventually overpowered and killed.

    8) Inquisitor of the Bionite Order
Shulk and company remain confused regarding the assassins that just tried to kill them as Alvis returns, which he's surprised to see that a fight just happened. Investigating the corpses, Alvis sees that they were Inquisitors. The imperial guards led by Kallian arrive at the Whitewing Palace room shortly after, which Alvis informs the alert Shulk's group of how Prince Kallian is Melia's brother. Alvis assures Kallian that there's nothing to worry about as the matter's already been resolved. He explains that as the Divine Seer, he saw the assassination danger approaching Shulk and his companions, but apparently arrived too late to join the fun.

Kallian looks to the assassin corpses, and notes that they don't look like common thieves. In return, Alvis states that they were Inquisitors of the Bionite Order; a group of assassins known to be long devoted to the imperial family. Kallian finds that hard to believe due to the Bionite Order being just a myth. In return, Alvis explains that the Bionite Order existed before High Entia records began. That many, including himself, was under the belief that the Order had long since died out, yet the dead members of the Bionite Order are now here before them. Kallian questions if his father is aware of the Bionite Order, which Alvis answers that due to its members living in the shadows to the point of never showing their true faces, Emperor Sorean may not even know of their continued existence.

The prince remains confused as to why they would target Shulk's group, but upon remembering back to the meeting he just witnessed between Yumea and Tyrea, he struggles to accept that it was his own mother who ordered the assassination attempt. Shulk then interrupts to warn Kallian of the danger that Melia's in. That if they don't get to her soon, she will be killed at what looks like an altar. Kallian is obviously confused as to how Shulk knows this, which Alvis reveals that he and Shulk share the same gift. The prince instantly realizes what Alvis means by that, and asks Shulk if he's also someone that can see the future. Shulk doesn't deny it, and states that they must find Melia as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the ceremony-masked Melia being escorted by Lorithia and her guards arrives at the High Entia Tomb where the trial will be taking place. Lorithia reminds Melia that she must take the Trial of the Tomb alone as Melia provides her thanks for the escort. In return, Lorithia wishes Melia safe return, and provides a bit of advice of how history has shown that those who stake their claim to the throne without merit will spend an eternity as fallen spirits. Melia assures Lorithia that she will prove herself worthy for the throne, and that she's no less prepared to sacrifice her life than those that have fallen before. Melia then heads into the Tomb as Lorithia watches on giving the princess one last warning to watch her back.

Returning to Shulk's group, Kallian rejects the idea to go to Melia due to the rule that the one who enters the Trial of the Tomb must do so alone. He claims that Melia's life or death is in the hands of fate now, and that it's fate that will decide if Melia's worthy for the throne. Reyn finds it unbelievable that Kallian's choosing not to help out his own sister, but Dunban remains calm knowing that it would be wrong for them to interfere with a ritual that holds special significance to the High Entia. Dunban then points out a possible loophole wondering if the Trial of the Tomb's ritual rules only applies to High Entia. That problems shouldn't occur if it was people of the Homs that entered the Tomb, and not other High Entia. He asks if there's a rule that prohibits Homs from entering the Tomb, which Kallian admits that there's not. Thus, Dunban states that there's no need for them to be involved in the ritual, and asks that they be cut a break in order to save Melia.

After hearing Dunban's idea, Kallian asks who the former is. In return, Dunban states his name, and introduces himself as the protector of Shulk's Mechon-bashing group. The name drop catches Kallian's attention having remembered that Dunban was the heroic wielder of the Monado that held back a wave of Mechon at the "Battle of Sword Valley." Dunban notes the oddity that Kallian knows of a battle the latter took no part in, which the prince apologizes while admitting that the High Entia are people who don't concern themselves with the wars of others. However, Dunban assures Kallian that he was only joking, and that he knows the High Entia don't actually need to get involved with the fighting due to how impressive the Alcamoth defence systems look. Seeing that they've all come to the decision to help Melia, Alvis informs the group that they can reach the High Entia Tomb through Alcamoth's centre gate transporter. He warns everyone that they should hurry as Melia's already begun the trial.

    9) The Legend of the Monado
Shortly after, Shulk's group and Alvis arrive at the entrance of the High Entia Tomb, which Alvis warns them that there's defensive measures in place to prevent intruders from entering. Thus, Alvis suggests for Shulk and company to come up with a plan to circumvent such measures. Before continuing, Shulk asks about Alvis being a Seer like him. In return, Alvis explains that he comes from a long line of Seers that are dedicated to serving the imperial family, and that his visions have helped protect the High Entia empire. Shulk remains confused given that Alvis has the appearance of a Homs rather than a High Entia, which Alvis assures him that the explanation will come later due to his ancestry not being all that easy to explain. So much so that his ability to see the future is also quite complicated to explain. However, Alvis states the simplest way to explain his ability that it's basically like he's performing his own ritual.

Alvis asks if it's the same for Shulk, which Shulk explains that it's not as his visions appear suddenly without warning, and that while they start off obscure, the visions become more clear the closer he gets to the seen events. After hearing how Shulk's Seer ability works, Alvis is convinced that Shulk's future sight is a lot better than his own. Alvis then looks to the High Entia Tomb, and states that he still hasn't sensed any danger to Princess Melia, which doesn't impress Reyn. Alvis states that this is why he asked Shulk's group for help, and that he's glad that he stumbled upon them thanks to the coincidence of seeing them in danger through his Seer vision, which confuses everyone. Shulk remains confused as to why Alvis needs their help when he witnessed Alvis wielding the Monado back in Makna Forest.

In return, Alvis explains that the Monado was passed down in the imperial line for generations, and that being the sword of the Bionis, it's compelled to do its master's bidding. He also states that if the Monado was magnified greatly, it would have the power to control the very fabric of the world, which is the ether substance that's all around them. Thus, Alvis brings up the usage of the Monado where one who controls the ether can make their will reality, which is what Alvis successfully did when he briefly wielded the Monado. Alvis states his theory that it was due to the Monado's power that said weapon ended up being sealed away for centuries. Yet despite that, the Monado found its way into the hands of the Homs, and namely, Shulk. Alvis suggests for Shulk to find out for himself if this was just a coincidence, or if there actually is something more regarding him becoming the Monado's wielder. Alvis notes that the Bionis is stirring as he and Shulk's group enter into the Tomb.

Meanwhile within the High Entia Tomb, Melia stops to think over how the ancestral altar lies deep beneath the seals. She wonders what trials await her, and assures herself that she needs to stay focused before continuing on.

    10) The High Entia Tomb
Melia arrives at a scanning door, and upon activating it, the door speaks to her stating how it's been 2512 cycles since the last visitor, and asks for the newcomer's name and purpose. Melia Antiqua introduces herself, and states that she needs to be judged by the ancestral spirits on her legitimacy to the throne. The door grants permission, and proceeds to run an analysis and genetic data scan upon Melia. After completing the scan, the door confirms Melia's bloodline, and opens for her. Melia then walks through to continue on towards the ancestral altar.

Shortly after, Shulk's group and Alvis arrive at the scanning door. Sharla points out how cold the place is which Dunban figures is no ordinary chill as he can tell that the remnants of ancient spirits dwell within the Tomb. Alvis reminds Dunban and company that it's part of the Tomb's defence systems to prevent uninvited guests, but before he could provide any further warnings, Reyn's curiosity gets the better of him as he ends up unintentionally activating the scanning door. The door proceeds to scan Reyn, and deems him an uninvited guest. This results in a circular trap door opening up below everyone that causes Shulk and company to fall and disappear into the depths of the High Entia Tomb. Meanwhile, Melia's seen having arrived at the ancestral altar.

    11) Their Future Sovereign
Melia enters the ancestral altar room, and just like what was seen in Shulk's visions, she kneels before it. The altar speaks to Melia stating that its descendant has done well so far. Melia takes note of being called a descendant wondering if the one speaking to her is a progenitor of her Antiqua family. The altar answers that it's best to think of it as a recreation of such an ancestor as it possesses said ancestor's thoughts and speech. Melia finds this hard to believe as it's been thousands of years since the ancestor was last alive, which the altar assures her that it's just a replica, and not the actual ancestor.

A projection of what the ancestor would be if Melia was to meet with him now. Overall, Melia accepts that while she still doesn't understand how this works, she can tell that there's no falsehood in the altar's words. In return, the altar states that if it could feel, it would currently be experiencing joy at Melia's acceptance as it is incapable of lying. Melia questions what the altar means by feeling "joy," which the altar explains of how the gene analysis scan discovered that Melia is 80% integrated with the Homs gene. That after eight generations of evolution, their wishes are now almost fulfilled.

Melia next asks what the altar means by "wishes." In return, the altar answers that their purpose, as decreed by the Bionis, is linked to its people's genetic sequence. Thus, they've been spending many millennia analysing sequences in order to become free from the Bionis curse as only a certain gene set will unlock the mechanism that will set everyone free. Melia remains confused as to what this all means, which the altar assures her that it's nothing to worry about, and proceeds to grant her the seal. The jewel on the altar fires a beam of energy at Melia's head, which results in the symbol appearing and disappearing on her forehead; meaning that the ancestral seal's been given to Melia. The altar announces that Melia will be the one who rules over the High Entia, and will likely be their last ruler. Melia doesn't know what to say, which the altar orders its descendant to go forth and rule. However, it's at this point that Tyrea enters the ancestral altar.

Tyrea states her surprise that the spirits appear to be looking favorably upon Melia, who's confused as to how a non-imperial is within the High Entia Tomb. Melia orders to explain how she's here, which Tyrea reveals that she didn't need permission as she's the subject of Her Highness, First Consort Yumea. Thus, revealing that Tyrea's actually Yumea's royal daughter of pure High Entia blood, and makes her a candidate to take the throne. As Melia's still trying to process this, Tyrea vents that Melia, an impure child born from the Homs Second Consort, has no right to refer to Yumea, the High Entia First Consort, as "mother." Melia's still unable to say anything as Tyrea prepares for a fight; claiming that a filthy Homs half-breed has no right to the throne.

Shortly beforehand, Shulk's group and Alvis are seen at the bottom of the Tomb's trapdoor shaft having landed in a pool of water to survive the fall. Reyn complains as to why someone made the trapdoor, which Alvis reminds him of the Tomb's defence mechanisms. Shulk and company scold Reyn for getting them into this mess, which Reyn complains back that not even Shulk and Alvis' visions saw that trapdoor coming. In return, Shulk reminds him that his visions don't work like that while Alvis admits that a vision to see the trapdoor would have been useful. Reyn calls out the two of them as vision frauds, but Shulk's having none of it as it's not the first time that Reyn's actions got them into a mess. Seeing Riki agree with Shulk, Reyn remains confused as to why he's the one taking all the blame. However, Sharla and Dunban are also in agreement that this was Reyn's fault, which finally leaves him unable to say anything.

With Reyn's mistake settled, Alvis states to Shulk's group that for now, they should all just be thankful that they survived the fall. That from now on, they just need to take greater care. He then assures everyone that while their journey is now longer, there's still a path forward to make their way deeper into the High Entia Tomb. Knowing that they still need to save Melia, Shulk's group are all in agreement as they walk through the tunnel that takes them out of the trapdoor pool room.

    12) The Tomb's Guard
Shulk's group arrives at a room where there's a large glowing blue sphere hovering above the middle platform. Shulk's relieved to find that it's not attacking them, but the blue sphere activates, which drops in a golem-like creature called an Orluga Rufus to act as a defensive mechanism that blocks the path forward. Dunban figures they've run into the Tomb's guards as the group proceeds to battle and destroy the Orluga Rufus.

    13) Towards the Ceremony Hall
Following the fight against the Orluga Rufus, Reyn questions if they're going to find Melia at this rate, which Alvis reminds him that they had to take the long way due to a certain someone. However, Alvis assures them that they'll be fine as they've now reached the Tomb path that will take them to the ancestral altar. Thus, Shulk and company continue on through the High Entia Tomb.

    14) Inquisitor Tyrea
Making their way through the Tomb while fighting any other Orluga Rufus guards that they come across, Shulk's group and Alvis arrive at the ancestral altar the moment Tyrea's about to attack Melia. Shulk hears Tyrea calling Melia a half-Hom, and calls out to Melia, who's confused as to how Shulk and company are here. However, the creature that killed Melia in Shulk's vision suddenly appears out of a ceiling shaft above the altar.

The creature turns out to be a Solidum Telethia, which lands behind Melia as Tyrea continues to attack from the front. Melia becomes confused even further as to how there's a Telethia within the High Entia Tomb, which the attacking Tyrea taunts her claiming that she doesn't need to know when she's about to die. Aiming to protect Melia, Shulk and company join in to fight both the Solidum Telethia and Tyrea.

    15) The Bionis' Wish
The Telethia and Tyrea are eventually defeated as Tyrea's mask gets knocked off. Covering her face to try to continue hiding her identity, Tyrea refuses to accept defeat, and orders the defeated Solidum Telethia to kill as many as it can. The Telethia begins to absorb the surrounding ether, which Melia warns everyone that it's planning to destroy itself by exploding. As the explosion goes off however, Alvis steps foward to take the attack himself, much to Tyrea's shock and confusion as she watches Alvis absorb the explosion; saving everyone from the blast.

Shulk thanks Alvis for the save as Melia asks why they're here. In return, Shulk explains that the Monado gave him a warning of how she was in danger. He states that he's glad that they made it in time, but he's then informed by Reyn that the person who attacked Melia is gone; having escaped during the Telethia explosion. With the threat gone, Melia takes off her ceremony mask, and thanks everyone for saving her life, which everyone happily accepts while Riki celebrates the most.

Shortly after, Melia and Alvis are seen having returned to the Audience Chamber. Alvis wraps up telling his report of what went down in the High Entia Tomb to Emperor Sorean and Kallian while Lorithia watches from the side. After hearing the report, Emperor Sorean takes note of the revelation that there's forces in Alcamoth working in the shadows. More specifically, the Inquisitors of the Bionite Order that are dedicated and devoted to the Bionis. However, Alvis provides His Majesty the bad news that they came away with nothing to prove that the Bionite Order took part in the Tomb attack. Kallian steps in to explain history that the Bionite Order was dissolved by the 47th throne successor, Emperor Lumian, due to said order's extreme practices. However, Emperor Sorean takes this as a sign that the Bionite Order is still around, and are acting as puppet masters pulling their strings from the shadows.

His Majesty questions how this is possible having believed up to this point that the Bionite Order bloodline was lost ages ago, which Kallian informs his father that his mother, First Consort Yumea, is currently residing in the Tower of Investigation. That the Ministry of Investigation's judgement upon Yumea should be imminent. However, Emperor Sorean remains unconvinced that this will be enough to reveal the truth about the Bionite Order, and decides that he must do it himself, which Kallian agrees with. Having been listening the whole time, Melia appears downhearted knowing that her step-mother, Yumea, was most likely behind her assassination attempt.

As her father, Emperor Sorean reassures her that she managed to return from the Tomb unharmed, and that the forefathers have spoken regarding Melia becoming Empress. Melia remains unconvinced as she had to be rescued by Shulk and his companions, but given that Kallian told him what happened, His Majesty sees this as no reason to doubt her legitimacy to the throne. Kallian asks his little sister to stand proud as Emperor Sorean does the same, and announces that at tomorrow's investiture ceremony, Melia will officially be made his successor. Melia accepts it as her overjoyed father thinks to himself that his daughter's truly worthy for the throne as she's come a long way. That she's the hope of Bionis as long as she continues her High Entia and Hom's bloodline legacy.

Meanwhile, Shulk's group remains on standby in their Whitewing Palace room. Riki remains excited that they succeeded in saving Melia, but Dunban notes that there's something still bothering him. He questions why Melia was chosen to be crown princess given that Kallian as the older brother should have ascended before her, and that the foe from the Tomb, Tyrea, was clearly opposed to the decision. Sharla agrees that it's odd, which Dunban adds that Kallian comes off as a worthy candidate, yet he's unable to understand why Melia was chosen, and that Kallian appears to have gone along with it. Unable to answer, Sharla admits that it's a mystery. The imperial guards then appear to inform Shulk and company that Emperor Sorean has called for their summons. Shulk and Reyn get excited that this probably means that they got the imperial sanction to access Prison Island, which the guards inform them that His Majesty awaits them at the Audience Chamber.

    16) An Audience with the Emperor
Shortly after, Shulk steps before Emperor Sorean and Kallian in the Audience Chamber. His Majesty apologizes for detaining Shulk and his companions earlier, and that while they may not be the same people, the one thing he knows that he must say is to thank Shulk for saving his daughter. Shulk apologizes in return claiming that they shouldn't have meddled with the customs of the High Entia, which Emperor Sorean is just glad to see that his daughter was lucky enough to meet and befriend such an unselfish group of people. His Majesty points out that a ruler will need individuals such as Shulk in the times ahead. He then gets to the main topic at hand having heard about Shulk's journey against the Mechon. Shulk answers this to be the case; going over how the Mechon devastated their homes, and took away many of their loved ones. Emperor Sorean asks if this means that revenge is Shulk's goal, which Shulk answers it is, much to His Majesty's surprise at how honest Shulk's being.

Shulk states that he has no interest in hiding his true intentions as it's their very existence that's at stake here. Seeing how unwavering Shulk's spirit is, Emperor Sorean accepts the boy as the master of the Monado, but that there's something that he must tell Shulk. His Majesty explains of a time before their High Entia forefathers built their empire. The time of when the two titans, Bionis and Mechonis, fought a vicious battle. Before going further, he asks Shulk if this story is known amongst Homs. In return, Shulk admits that it's a story told to them as children. Shulk tells his version of the story that the Bionis and Mechonis fought and died, and that it was a fight that resulted in many creatures that lived on the titans dying in the process. In addition, the remains of the Bionis and Mechonis became their continential worlds, and brought new life to the Bionis, which is how his people, the Homs, were made.

Emperor Sorean adds to the story something more recent which is that the Bionis is going to awaken once again, which Shulk points out that Alvis said something similar. His Majesty states that this isn't just knowledge that their Divine Seer knows, but is actually something that all of the High Entia world knows. He explains of how the Telethia creatures that roam the upper Bionis regions are actually as old as the Bionis itself, and that their recent disturbances of the Bionis' ether can only mean one thing. The reawakening of the Bionis. Shulk questions why this is happening now, which His Majesty points the boy to a wall inscription within the Audience Chamber that was left behind by the High Entia forefathers. Emperor Sorean reads the inscription that's basically a warning to the descendants of the imperial Antiqua family. That when the ether cries, the Bionis awakes, and that along with not mistaking the signs, they must heed the sword's return (referring to the Monado). Finally, they must trap the sword's power in order to assure eternal prosperity.

His Majesty continues to explain to Shulk of how all life born on Bionis affects the ether. That the Mechon's recent assaults are just the beginning. Emperor Sorean adds that these events were set in motion the moment Shulk started using the Monado against the Mechon. Shulk tries to explain that he was just using the Monado to try to survive, but His Majesty already knows full well he can't dispute it as using the Monado needed to be done. Emperor Sorean adds further proof that the recent events concerning the Mechon was also mentioned in the inscription. However, His Majesty remains worried about the lives that will be lost if the Mechon assaults continue, and that if the Bionis was to truly awaken as hinted by recent events, then all life currently on the Bionis will be lost. He asks if Shulk understands what he's getting at, which Shulk knows full well that His Majesty is referring to total extinction. Emperor Sorean makes the current objective clear that they must stop the Mechon before any of this happens.

Shulk takes this as a sign that His Majesty is agreeing to help fight the Mechon, and finally asks for the imperial sanction to be granted access to Prison Island. Emperor Sorean asks what their purpose is to go there, which Shulk answers that he saw it in a vision that at Prison Island, they'll be fighting a Face-Mechon. Shulk tries to convince His Majesty that the Mechon must pay for what they did. In return, Emperor Sorean realizes that Shulk's someone who must have seen a certain someone within his visions that's connected to Prison Island. His Majesty explains that just like the Monado, their forefathers sealed something away on Prison Island long ago. However, all records of Prison Island's sealed object has been lost; meaning that no one in the current day knows what it is. Shulk asks if this is somehow connected to the awakening of the Bionis, which Emperor Sorean answers that he doesn't know, but that they should trust the decision of their forefathers sealing away the object as there must have been a good reason that they did so.

With nothing left to say, Emperor Sorean asks that Shulk give him some time to deliberate the Prison Island permit, which he assures the boy that he's putting the safety of Bionis above all else. His Majesty also makes it clear that given how Shulk is a fellow Bionis brethren, the High Entia will not ignore his plight. Shulk admits he understands knowing full well that the lands of the High Entia is not his homeland, and that he will accept the decision if it's decided that they can't have the imperial sanction to Prison Island. His Majesty apologizes that things have turned out this way, but Shulk accepts it. Emperor Sorean then points out that there's one more thing, which catches Shulk's attention. His Majesty asks Shulk, this time as a father, to not just be Melia's protector, but would be honored if Shulk would be her friend. Emperor Sorean states that this is his humble request as the lonesome Melia can be seen elsewhere walking along an Alcamoth flower path. Shulk accepts stating that it would be an honor as His Majesty and Kallian give him a nod of approval.

At that same time over on the Mechonis, a large gold Mechon is seen remaining on standby. From said Mechon, a male voice heavily implied to be the mentioned Master Egil speaks to the Mechon-woman from the Face-Nemesis lab through a communicator. He states the noteable event that the Telethia are now on the move, which the Mechon-woman accepts. Egil figures that the "fleshy fool" (implied to be the sealed object on Prison Island) will be going after the Monado, and asks about the work on the Mechon-Faces. The Mechon-woman provides the news that the repairs on Metal-Face have been completed. He next asks about Face-Nemesis, which the Mechon-woman's unable to answer.

Egil then asks about the Homs boy that currently wields the Monado, and if it's true that said boy's now reached as far as the Bionis' Eryth Sea. The Mechon-woman answers this to be the case, which Egil pieces it together that there's only one place left now for the boy to go (referring to Prison Island). However, Egil remains convinced that the Homs boy wouldn't dare to unleash the power that resides there. Overall, Egil doesn't care what happens as in the end, all bugs must be exterminated. Wielding what looks like a large staff with his golden Mechon, Egil gives the order to commence the assault on Bionis.
