The Friends of Humanity target a patient and close friend of Beast's and Wolverine infiltrates the organization

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Name Change: While in the comics, Sabretooth's real name is Victor Creed, the series changes it to Graydon Creed, Sr. to leave no doubt that he's Graydon Jr.'s father.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Beast's childhood photos suggests that, unlike the comics, where it was the result of self-experimentation, Beast's blue fur was always a part of his mutation.
  • Berserk Button:
    • One gets the impression that anti-mutant bigots have come after Beast's loved ones one time too many, judging by the way he dealt with the Friends of Humanity...
    • The very image of Sabretooth is enough to rile up Creed and shoot at a projection of it. Even his own men are weirded out and leave him in his Villainous Breakdown.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Beast is usually a Gentle Giant. Until a gang of anti-mutant bigots kidnap his girlfriend. Then they find out why he has that codename the hard way.
  • Big "NO!": Creed, right before the file reveals Sabretooth's real name.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Beast breaks up with Carly to keep her safe, but her father has learned the error of his ways, and the Friends of Humanity have suffered a major setback.
  • Blind and the Beast: Beast falls in love with his patient, a blind woman, who also has feelings for him.
  • Blind Mistake: Averted. Carly very much knows that Beast is a mutant and loves him regardless. Once she regains her sight, she still finds him beautiful and jokes that Dr. Bolson doesn't have soft fur like Hank.
  • Canon Foreigner: Dr. Alan Bolson, Carly Crocker, and her father are original creations for the show.
  • Continuity Nod: The recording about Sabretooth mentions his last known location.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Wolverine is outraged that the Friends of Humanity attacked a hospital for the blind.
    • Alan is a loyal friend to Beast and refuses to have him thrown out when Carly's bandages are being removed.
  • Expy: Carly seems to be one for Vera Cantor, who was Beast's girlfriend when the X-Men first formed.
  • Final Solution: Graydon Creed reveals to "Mr. Logan" that this is how he eventually intends to deal with mutantkind. Judging by his interrogation with Carly, he even wants to kill those who "betrayed" baseline humanity by having romantic relations with mutants. He just would receive a lot of negative press if he says it outright publicly.
  • Frog Men: Amphibious, a half-man half-frog Savage Land Mutate, debuts in this episode.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Carly's father becomes accepting of Beast after the Friends of Humanity kidnap her and Beast saves her.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Beast admits he focuses on his work to distract himself from how being a mutant means he can't be around his family or Carly.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Once "Mr. Logan" outs himself to Graydon Creed that he's a mutant:
Logan: What's the matter, Creed? Daddy's boy doesn't like claws?
Creed: (stammering) I don't know what you're talking about!
Logan: (Takes off shades, and playing up his Beast Man appearance) I don't have a familiar look to you?
    Creed: SHUT UP!
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: After the attack on the clinic, Beast decides to keep distance between himself and Carly to keep the Friends of Humanity from targeting her or the clinic.
  • It's Personal: Though he hates all mutants, Creed makes it clear he goes after Beast in particular for being "President Kelly's favorite mutant" and thus being the symbol of Kelly turning his back on the FOH's cause.
  • Karma Houdini: The Friends of Humanity suffer no legal repercussions for attacking the hospital, but...
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After a season of fermenting hatred against mutants and spearheading public violence, Creed is revealed to be Sabretooth's son, which alienates his followers and causes him to have a complete breakdown. When we see him next, we learn he spent a year in a mental hospital. Half of the men also got busted up by Beast during his rampage.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Right after the big reveal, Wolverine rubs salt in the wound by saying this of Creed and his father. Creed's insane screaming doesn't exactly contradict the claim.
  • Little "No": Beast, when he sees the Friends of Humanity have abducted Carly.
  • Lying to the Perp: While undercover, Wolverine tests his suspicions about Graydon by saying he looks familiar and knew someone named Creed 20 years ago, which makes Graydon nervous.
Logan: Yeah, workin' coal mines in Kentucky.
Graydon: [relieved] Oh, well, that couldn't have been my family. We were all in Canada then.
Logan: [under his breath] So was I, bub. So was I.
  • The Mole: Wolverine infiltrates the Friends of Humanity by pretending to be an anti-mutant bigot.
  • Madness Mantra: "You are not my father! You are not my father!"
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The Friends of Humanity group is horrified that their mutant-hating leader has a mutant father in the form of Sabretooth.
  • No Sympathy: As Creed has his breakdown, Wolverine simply shakes his head in contempt. He later quips, "Scratch one friend."
  • "Not So Different" Remark: After Carly is abducted:
Mr. Crocker: Mutant, this is your fault! Carly?
Beast: [grabbing him] It was intolerant, ignorant, mutant-hating fools like you who took your daughter!
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Wolverine uses his brains to sneak into the Friends of Humanity's headquarters, while Beast just bursts in and beats the living hell out of them. It's lampshaded.
Jubilee: Weird. Wolverine's using his head, and Beast's going berserk? What's the world coming to?
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Jean talks Wolverine out of simply busting heads, but later on, Beast goes on a rampage. When the FOH's intruder alert comes in, Wolverine smiles at the prospect of this happening.
Wolverine: Isn't that nice? Looks like my new friends will get to meet some of my old friends.
  • Perspective Flip: See O.O.C. Is Serious Business. You'd think Wolverine and Beast had a "Freaky Friday" Flip.
  • Properly Paranoid: Wolverine suspects Graydon is related to "an old buddy" of his.
  • Rage Against the Reflection: Beast ends up throwing a book against his mirror before telling Jean his frustrations over being a mutant.
  • Say My Name: Captured, Magneto recognizes his creation Amphibious and the latter mocks him in response:
    Magneto: Amphibious!
Amphibious: Magneto speaks, and the Savage Land trembles!
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Friends of Humanity abandon Creed once his mutant paternity is exposed.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!:
Wolverine: Let the girl go, Creed.
Creed: How dare you?! You have no right to—!
Wolverine: [extends claws right in Creed's face] These give me plenty of rights.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Beast injures at least half of the men during the rampage, but running this gauntlet leaves him battered and exhausted. He can barely stand by the time he finds Wolverine and Carly.
  • Taking You with Me: Wolverine, Beast, and Carly are cornered before they can escape, and Creed says he will have Beast killed. Wolverine fully intends to take a few FOH members down in the process, though the others arriving means he won't have to.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Graydon is horrified to learn that his father is a mutant.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: When Carly's father says he won't tolerate "some disgusting mistake of nature" being around her, Alan reminds him that Beast developed the operation that restored her sight.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Creed has an epic one when his mutant paternity is revealed to his anti-mutant followers, reducing him to insane screaming and throwing a tantrum as he keeps shooting the Sabretooth hologram.
Creed: WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?! I HATE HIM! I'M NOT LIKE HIM! I'M NORMAL!!!
  • Wham Line: Logan calls to bring a machine displaying Sabretooth's profile. We soon see why he planned this and why Creed panics at the sight of the mutant's hologram.
Cerebro: The mutant Sabretooth. Last seen in the Baffin Island region of Canada. Home: Edmonton, Alberta. Real name: Graydon Creed... Senior.
    F.O.H. Member: Graydon Creed... Senior?!
    Logan: Like father, like son.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Wolverine sells his infiltration by faking a loud beating in the alley next to the Friends of Humanity's headquarters. When the men investigate, he says a mutant did this to him, and they carry him inside.
  • You Are Fat: As Wolverine rescues Carly, they discover the Friends of Humanity has knocked out Beast. Wolverine carries him to safety but groans and tells him to cut down on the snacks.
  • "You!" Exclamation: Creed has a subdued one when he realizes the newest member of the FOH is actually a mutant.
  • You're Not My Father: Creed says those words after seeing Sabretooth's image, recognizing his heritage.
