Wanda accidentally causes an accident on the subway, and by helping the civilians the Brotherhood improve their Image. In order to boost their reputation, the Brotherhood decide to stage accidents and then rescue the bystanders. The plan starts out as a success, until a staged accident runs out of hand.

Tropes included:

  • Accidental Hero: After Wanda accidentally causes the wreck in the subway, the Brotherhood attempt to get themselves out of danger while also unknowingly saving the other passengers and taking them to safety, causing them to be viewed as heroes. The only subversion is Lance, since he took the time to actually help an old woman get to safety.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: At the end of the episode, Pietro asks if everyone wants to take the new subway into the city, with everyone else giving him death glares before attacking him. This also counts as Laser-Guided Karma for him since he was the one that convinced everyone to go with their Engineered Heroics plan.
  • Engineered Heroics: The Brotherhood cause several "accidents" to stop them and make themselves look like heroes in the eyes of Bayville.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: When Pietro sabotages the controls to a train to make it go runaway, he inadvertently puts all of Bayville in danger when the train he caused to go out control is now on a collision course with another train, one that is pulling eight tankers of gasoline, leaving the Brotherhood unprepared for something like this.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Kelly may be prejudiced against mutants in his campaign for mayor, he is right about the people of Bayville shouldn’t be fooled into thinking the Brotherhood are heroes, as they are causing the accidents where they people.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When the Brotherhood discovered their attempt to look like heroes by causing a runaway train has put Bayville in bigger danger than they thought, the train they sabotaged is going to crash with another one with eight tanks of gasoline, they get of town to avoid caught in the explosion.
  • Token Good Teammate: It is emphasized how Lance is this for the Brotherhood. He actually helps an innocent civilian get to safety in the beginning instead of worrying about himself, and he helps the X-Men in the climax instead of running away.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Kelly doesn't show any gratitude towards the X-Men for saving him from the Brotherhood, instead talking about how he'll have all mutants thrown out of Bayville.
