Tropes
- Comically Missing the Point: Wynonna and Nicole explain to Rachel that they want to get into the Garden to get Waverly back, who's an angel. Rachel misinterprets the angel bit.Rachel: You guys are polygamists?
- Confronting Your Imposter: Wynonna arrives in the Garden, only to find Eve already there wearing her face.
- Contrived Coincidence: Of all the possible grates to stand on, Nicole falls into the exact one where the portal is and that isn't crawling with zombies.
- Deadly Gas: Rachel and Wynonna need to pass through an area that's still filled with this on the way to the portal.
- Eating the Eye Candy: Both Doc and Waverly give the naked Nicole a few appraising looks.
- Fanservice:
- "Nicole" being naked for most of the beginning, although a combination of Hand-or-Object Underwear, Scenery Censor and Lens Flare Censor keep anything explicit from being seen aside from Toplessness from the Back and Shoulders-Up Nudity shots.
- Nicole and Waverly sex scene at the end, again Scenery Censor and strategic camera movement keeps anything explicit from being seen.
- Glad-to-Be-Alive Sex: Nicole and Waverly's reunion at the end of the episode quickly turns passionate.
- Impostor Forgot One Detail: Waverly realizes it's not really Nicole when she kisses Eve and tastes sulfur.
- Injured Limb Episode: Nicole spends the episode with a broken leg due to the fall she took last episode. Conveniently the Year Outside, Hour Inside nature of Eden has leg being already healed when Waverly finds her again.
- Internal Reveal: Nicole tells Rachel that they already knew her mother was dead the whole time.
- Mistaken For An Impostor: When Wynonna gets to the Garden, Doc thinks she's the monster and they fight until Wynonna proves herself.
- Naked People Are Funny: "Nicole" being found Naked on Arrival by Doc is Played for Laughs, with her having a Naked Freak-Out once she notices and him trying his best not to look. His attempt at giving her clothes is also stopped due to Some Kind Of Forcefield keeping her imprisoned and he hurries to find Waverly, but isn't sure how to inform her of "Nicole's" state of undress.Waverly: How did she look?
Doc: ...I think you will be pleased! - Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Doc finds the place the blood has been going and realizes that the Nicole with Waverly is actually whatever is being kept in the prison. Based on that, he doesn't feed it... which turns out to be what was keeping it trapped.
- Not Right in the Bed: Waverly realizes it's not really Nicole when she kisses Eve and tastes sulfur.
- Pinned to the Wall: Doc traps Eve to a wall by stabbing her with a giant pair of shears, though it only stops her for a little while.
- Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: Eve tries this repeatedly, using Nicole, Jeremy, and Wynonna to try to sway Waverly and Doc.
- Shout-Out:
- Nicole claims she wants to die doing Sara Lance cosplay.
- Seeing Eve with her face, Wynonna calls her Orphan Whack.
- Some Kind Of Forcefield: Eve is being kept prisoner via one, which turns out to be what the blood machine was powering all along.
- Talking in Bed: Played With. Waverly and Nicole's afterglow conversation ends up taking place in the stairs, as that's just where they ended up during sex.
- Take That!: When Rachel stops telling her story, Nicole says, "Don't stop there, George R. R. Martin."
- Trust Password: Wynonna proves to Doc that she's not the impostor by using their Safe Word.
- Wham Line: "Don't you know? You've been gone 18 months, three weeks, and four days. You all have."
- Wham Shot: "Nicole" telling Waverly "who else would I be?"....and cut to the real Nicole lying with a broken leg back at the lab.
- Year Outside, Hour Inside: Wynonna is hurrying to get back through in time to save Nicole and Rachel. When they do make it out, it's been more than a year.
