Recap / Winx Club 3D: Magical Adventure

Go To

The second Winx Club movie and sequel to The Secret of the Lost Kingdom.

After being reunited with her birth parents, Bloom is now adjusting life as princess of Domino, but Sky is forbidden by his father to escort her to the Princess Ball, and to make matters worse, the Trix plot with the freed spirits of the Ancestral Witches to destroy all magic in the Magic Dimension. Only by defeating them could the Winx restore the magic and regain their own powers as well.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Bloom has three of this: the first one being a bespectacled geek with braces, the second one being a disrespectful slob, and the third being a muscular, sword-happy, knock-off version of Sky.
  • Ancient Artifact: The Ancestral Witches give the Ancient Hourglass to the traitorous King Erendor so he can't protect his planet from the destructive magic waves the witches plan on unleashing on the neighbor planet Domino. The Hourglass contains a sprout of positive magic from the Tree of Life. Subverted because it's implicit that the Ancestresses crafted it with this express purpose in mind, so it's not actually ancient.
  • Brought Down to Normal: The Trix manage to do this to pretty much every fairy (and presumably also good wizards like Nabu) in the Magical Dimension by damaging the positive part of the Tree of Life.
  • Continuity Nod: This movie is a follow-up from the cliffhanger of The Secret of the Lost Kingdom, where Bloom destroying the Obsidian Circle and saving Domino ended up freeing the spirits of the Ancestral Witches and they use the Trix as their new hosts, which sets up this film's main conflict.
  • Deader than Dead: The ultimate fate of the Ancestral Witches. After the Winx perform a Believix convergence (which summons the purest essence of the Dragon Flame), the Ancestral Witches were extracted out of the Trix's bodies and they all dissipate into nothingness.
  • Demonic Possession: After the Winx get their powers back and easily begin gaining the upper hand, the Ancestral Witches possess the Trix as punishment, taking over their bodies and turning them into the "Super Trix".
  • Goofy Print Underwear: During a montage of Bloom spending time with her repulsive suitors, the third one swings his sword around and accidentally slices off the lower half of his suit, exposing green boxer shorts with pigs printed on them.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Icy accidentally ends up hitting the magical sapling the Winx were searching for while trying to kill Bloom, unwittingly releasing the positive magic within the sapling and restoring the Winx's (and Nabu's) powers.
  • Non-Serial Movie: The movie started production right after the first one finished in 2007. This was before Season 4 had been written, so almost nothing adds up with the fourth season's continuity (Roxy hadn't been created yet and Nabu is alive in this movie among other things). The movie seems to end up as a separate continuity from the main series, presumably somewhere in the middle of Season 4 (after the Wizards' first defeat, and before the release of the Earth fairies). It makes it strange the movie is supposed to take place before Season 4 with the Winx in their Enchantix, but somehow have their Believix.
