Recap / What If Spider Man And Mary Janes Child Had Survived

Go To

Once upon a time, there was a Spider-Man story called "The Clone Saga", and in it, the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary-Jane Watson died. But what if... their daughter survived? What if she grew up to become a hero, just like her father?

Tropes:

  • Breakout Character: May "Mayday" Parker. From a one-off issue of What If...? to not just her own series, which had one of the longest runs of any single female hero Marvel has ever had, but launched its own universe. Just like her old man, then...
  • Hero of Another Story: The Fantastic Four have become the Fantastic Five. Peter also tries contacting the Avengers for help.
  • Oh, Crap!: Peter and MJ when they see their teenaged daughter is starting to develop super-powers.
  • Point of Divergence: The Parker baby living, or at least how it looks at first. Later developments in the Marvel Comics 2 universe show there were a couple of other serious points as well.
  • Retired Badass: Peter. And unlike so many other times where he tried throwing in the towel, in this universe it stuck completely. Two years after May was born he and the Green Goblin had it out one last time. Peter lost a leg and the will to keep being Spidey after that.
  • Save the Villain: Despite Normie having attacked her and her father, May still rescues him from getting splatted by a truck.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The Parkers burn what's left of Peter's old equipment to make absolutely sure May won't go back to heroing, unaware she's been doing some sketching...
  • Villainous Legacy: Sadly, Normie Osborn turns Green Goblin, just like his father and grandfather before him, brought on by the stress of his mother getting ill.
