The journey by sea proceeds, when suddenly, in sight of a certain island, Ruel has a seemingly fatal heart attack and dies... but during his solemn funeral on the island he pops up alive again, revealing that it was all a trick to recover a buried treasure in that very graveyard... treasure which seemingly consists in a golden ring, hosting a ghost. The ghost is Sho Boubou, former governor of the island betrayed and imprisoned in his ring, and begs the heroes to help him punish the villain who did this and reunite him with his bride-to-be, Melo.

Tropes:

  • Attack Its Weak Point: Cassis' mecha seems to be invulnerable to all attacks... except when a panel on the bottom loosens after an attack and opens, allowing Cleo and Eva to send through arrows to take it down from within.
  • Blasphemous Boast: After his guards have been defeated, Cassis angrily threatens the heroes, claiming that the wrath of a god is nothing compared to his wrath... kinda ruined by having him then descending the throne and spending a solid thirty second hiatus coming down the stairs and reaching the secret door, all while muttering in anger.
  • Breather Episode: This episode takes place after Sadlygrove and Evangelyne have reconciled after the tension between them in the last few episodes, and right before the four-part finale involving the group's arrival at the Crimson Claws.
  • The Caligula: Cassis doesn't seem to have any care for the well-being of his citizens, having turned the island into a Dystopia and betraying his old friend and his bride simply because he wanted to be in charge.
  • Cassandra Truth: Amalia tells two guards she's actually Princess Amalia Sherar Sharm of the Sadida and wishes to talk to the governor, but they don't believe her. Sadlygrove them tells them that he' Sir Sadlygrove of Percedal and he's going to kick their butts. The don't believe him, until he Put Their Heads Together.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Brotherhood of Tofu (sans Ruel) vs. a small army of Cassis' guards. The garrison loses, and badly.
  • Dystopia: Under Cassis's iron fist, the island's citizens are oppressed by the guards, groups of three or more people are forced to disband and everything needs to be checked by the guards and "stamped" through the massive seals on their helmets, which usually destroys the goods that are approved or wounds people.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Ruel spends half of the episode staring intently at his map, trying to figure out what he did wrong. During the fight against Cassis's giant stamp-shaped robot, the map flips in front of him, making him realize that he had to read it mirrored.
  • Faceless Mooks: Cassis' mooks are all identical, massive and wears face-obscuring helmets, as if they were mass-produced.
  • Faking the Dead: Ruel pretends to suffer a fatal stroke to get buried on the graveyard of the island he knows hosts a rare treasure. According to Yugo's comment, it's around the eighth time he did it (and he still keeps falling for it).
  • Fog Feet: Both Ecaflip spirits Melo and Sho Boubou lack legs, having instead ectoplasmic "tails" linking them to their respective cursed rings. So does Sadlygrove once he gets victim of the same enchantment.
  • Foreshadowing: A minor one, Cassis' massive mecha runs on some sort of purple energy and he claims is the work of science. In the following episode we meet the Sufokians, who uses similar technology.
  • Full-Circle Revolution: The heroes dethrone Cassis and release Sho and Melo from their prisons, so that the latter can take her rightful place. However, it turns out that her government is as oppressive as Cassis's was, with the exception of how Happiness Is Mandatory rather than a proper Dystopia. Oops...
  • Funny Background Event: During the scene in the plaza while the heroes are discussing, a guard walks up to the risen side of a two-wheeled chariot (with the owner sitting at the opposite end) and gives it the seal of approval... hitting the risen end so hard the owner is catapulted in the sky with a Wilhelm Scream.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: The action sequence where the heroes take down the guards has a distinctly Japanese song worthy of a Shōnen playing in the background.
  • Happiness Is Mandatory: Once she becomes the governor, Melo makes happiness mandatory: everyone must always be cheerful and sing at least three times a day.
  • Humongous Mecha: Cassis' ace in the sleeve is a huge four-legged mecha shaped like a rubber stamp.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Cassis uses a magic wand to imprison Sho and Melo inside rings and makes heavy use of stamps in his domain. Amalia uses his own wand on him to seal him inside a rubber stamp.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Several guards are covered in ice by Eva and then promptly shattered by Sadlygrove.
  • Mood Whiplash: Ruel's death and funeral are somber and solemn, complete with everyone wearing funeral sunglasses and a eulogy... then he opens his eyes, stands up and merrily starts looking for the treasure, as the previous atmosphere promptly dissipates, along with the obligatory rain.
Sadlygrove: [still holding the eulogy book] A miracle. It's a miracle!
  • The Napoleon: Cassis is rather short and a tyrannical despot.
  • Put Their Heads Together: Well, it happens off-screen, but it's clearly implied by the sound that's what Dally does after grabbing two guards who are mocking him. A fitting punishment, considering their habit of head-butting everything.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Sho Boubou was sealed inside a golden ring, can manifest as a ghost but cannot go too far from the prison. Melo is locked inside another ring.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sigil Spam: The city of Breta (especially the palace) is not only covered everywhere with Governor Cassis's sigil (which, incidentally, features his stylized face), but the town guards also have the habit of stamping everything that enter the city, up to food and people, with said sigil. Including with the big stamp adorning their helmets, which amounts to a solid headbutt. Even Cassis's Humongous Mecha is basically a huge set of stamps, leaving the sigil imprinted in the ground wherever he tries to smash an opponent.
  • Sissy Villain: Cassis is rather unimposing, wears powder and makeup and has a shrill, annoying voice. He also relies entirely on his henchmen, a mecha, and the wand he uses to cast his imprisoning spell to fight. Once all of these are defeated or torn from him, he's absolutely helpless.
  • Weaponized Headgear: Cassis' soldiers have a giant stamp as part of their helmet they use to "approve" goods, acts and people, usually with heavy damage.
