Recap / Tracker S1E15 "Eye of the Storm"

Go To

During a blizzard, an alien fugitive sneaks into the bar while Cole and Mel are at the opera. When they return, Nestov shows up and tells them that a group of people are stranded outside, so Mel invites them in and reopens the bar. During a brief power outage, one of the patrons is murdered. Cole starts investigating. Then Vic shows up and begins his own investigation. Cole learns that the killer is an alien and has Nestov collect DNA samples from everyone at the bar. Vic confronts Cole, and Cole tells him the whole truth about who he is and what he does. Naturally, Vic assumes that Cole is making fun of him despite Mel's insistence that it's all true. Cole finally discovers that the killer is a supposedly shy accountant with an energy weapon that can stop a human's heart. He shoves Vic aside and fights the fugitive, taking his life force. Vic doesn't see any of that and assumes the killer is still at large. The fugitive tried to make off with the metal triangle Mel found in her grandmother's things. Cole tells her that the object has Vardian writing on it. He translates a part of it, and Mel recognizes the words from her grandmother's journal. Cole suspects Mel's grandmother may have had contact with a Vardian or a Cirronian.

  • Ancient Astronauts: Cole suggests that aliens have visited Earth before, citing a number of well-known sites that he claims are too advanced for humans of that time: the Stonehenge, the statues on Easter Island, the Pyramids of Giza. Given the previous episodes, there may be some truth to that.
  • Cassandra Truth: Cole tells Vic the truth about himself and the fugitives. Vic thinks he's being played for a fool, although at the end of the episode he just assumes that Cole is crazy. Cole admits to Mel that telling humans the truth may be the easiest way to get them to disbelieve him.
  • Energy Weapon: The killer uses some kind of laser that stops a human's heart. He also has a kind of alien taser that works on Cirronians.
  • Only a Lighter: Cole suspects a woman in being a fugitive and the killer. Her handbag falls to the floor and a gun slides out. Nestov freaks out and keeps shouting for Vic to shoot her, while Vic is aiming his gun at her and tells her to put the gun down. She aims it up and pulls the trigger, revealing a flame. It's possible she also uses it to scare away annoying guys.
  • The Reveal: Mel's grandmother may have had contact with an alien, who left her the metal triangle and helped her translate it.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Gina Newcastle, a reporter for Channel 6, expects everyone to recognize her on sight and treat her like a celebrity. Most don't.
