Recap / Total Drama: "Sky Fall"

Go To

The Final Four races to the top of a mountain. The first placer gets a feast while the last placer gets eliminated.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Air Quotes: During a confessional, Shawn shares the story of how his uncle went bankrupt after he opened a tanning salon. A big part of why he got no clients is due to the terrible name, which Shawn emphasizes with air quotes: "Bernie's Tanning Salon".
  • Bears Are Bad News: Sky and Sugar end up in a cave full of them.
  • Bland-Name Product: Chris mentions "MyTunes", a clear reference to iTunes.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Chris sees Shawn paralyzed in fear and states he thought it "only happened in cartoons".
  • Burp of Finality: The mechanical crocodiles prioritize hunting a tasty mountain goat over hunting the contestants. Chris berates them for this, which one crocodile responds to by belching up the goat's bell collar. Chris, in turn, responds with disgust.
  • Call-Back: The music that plays from the crocodiles is Justin's theme music.
  • Catch a Falling Star: After Sugar pushes Sky off the cliff, she falls for a very long time, but is saved from any injuries by a flying mechanical crocodile she lands on. She has it take her to the finish line to boot.
  • Cats Are Mean: Jasmine's cat returns and is vicious as ever.
  • Cow Tipping: During a confessional about her injured nose, Sugar recalls a time she tried to tip a cow. Her nose injury back then wasn't the cow's doing, but rather the fact she stepped on a rake while tiptoeing closer.
  • Determinator: Despite being stuck inside the trunk of a tree, Jasmine still tries to reach the finish line, but it doesn't succeed.
  • Eaten Alive: Shawn gets Swallowed Whole by one of the crocodiles just as he’s all but won the race. Chris laughs, but Shawn manages to get the crocodile dancing to Justin’s theme and explode… somehow.
  • Enemy Mine: Sky teams up with her nemesis Sugar in this episode.
  • Evil Gloating: After Sugar drops a tree on Jasmine, she's very proud of herself and makes that known.
  • Fartillery: Sugar puts her flatulence to full and deadly use. It melts the synthetic flesh off the robotic wildlife.
  • Hand Gagging: Sugar saves Sky and herself from a bunch of bears by farting them into submission. Sky is downed to and when she groggily wakes up, she immediately asks what happened. Sugar asks her if she remembers the nine cabbages she consumed earlier, prompting Sky to slap her hand over the other's mouth to prevent her from explaining more.
  • I Meant to Do That: Towards the end of the challenge, Sugar realizes that she's going to lose the race because she's not as athletic as her competition. In desperation, she leans against a tree, which tips over as a result and lands on Jasmine. Because this slows Jasmine down, Sugar declares that she meant to do that and gives the race another go. She beats Jasmine to the finish.
  • Matryoshka Object: Jasmine states that she isn't afraid of crocodiles, but since the ones coming after her are sent by Chris, she reasons there's a good chance there's tigers inside them and sharks inside the tigers. Of something like that, she is afraid.
  • Nasal Trauma: Sugar falls down a couple of feet on her nose in "Sky Fall". It bleeds badly, which reminds Sugar of a time she stepped on a rake and was smashed in the face with the handle. On the upside, the distraction of having to keep her nose up to not get blood everywhere helps her over a difficult obstacle by pure unmindfulness.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title:
    • The title is a play on the film Skyfall.
    • The original title of the episode was "Break Back Mountain", a play on the film Brokeback Mountain.
  • Rake Take: Sugar recalls a time she tried Cow Tipping. She failed to even reach the cow because she stepped on a rake and smashed herself in the face with the stick.
  • Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue...: If she wins (half) the prize money, Jasmine wants to open a flower shop that's also a cage-fighting school with a name based on the poem.
Roses Are Red
Bruises Are Blue
  • Saved by the Platform Below: While climbing up the mountain, an outcrop Jasmine's trying to hold on to crumbles. She falls quite a bit, but is momentarily saved when her backpack gets snagged by a branch growing from a ledge.
  • Slasher Smile: Sugar gives one before betraying Sky.
  • Spit Out a Shoe: The mechanical crocodiles prioritize hunting a tasty mountain goat over hunting the contestants. Chris berates them for this, which one crocodile responds to by belching up the goat's bell collar. Chris, in turn, responds with disgust.
  • Spoiler Title: Part of the reason why the initial title of the episode is preffered by many fans is because the new title spoils that Sky is still in the competition, which is especially bad for episode 11 out of 13.
