Go To

The campers are sent on a treasure hunt to find keys to various chests, one containing invinciblity In the meantime, Heather seeks to destroy Gwen's budding relationship with Trent, seeing it as an alliance.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Geoff realizes his prize for searching for his key in the septic tank was just cologne, he initially seems mad before laughing at it.
Geoff: (angry) I just snorkeled through a septic tank for cologne?! (amused) Nice.
  • All for Nothing: Owen gets half eaten by a bear, only for his key not to open any chests.
  • Almost Kiss: Gwen and Trent share one, interrupted by Chris.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Owen's forced to get his key from one... who later has Owen jammed in his mouth when Owen returns with the key.
  • Bee Afraid: Lindsay has to retrieve a key that's stored in a beehive. While Izzy offers to get the key, she returns covered head to toe in bees, which form a Scary Stinging Swarm that chases Lindsay into the lake. Needless to say, she's not looking so hot in the next scene.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Gwen gives one to Trent after he helps her get her key from a skunk hole. This is what gives Heather the idea of breaking them up.
  • Big Sister Instinct: After she sees how devastated Gwen was over seeing Heather kiss Trent, Leshawna organizes the other campers to vote off either Heather or Trent, consoling Gwen in the meantime.
  • Bowdlerise: Owen gets his head stuck in a bear's jaws and mutters, "Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap...crap infinity!" In the American airing, he instead says, "Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no...no infinity!"
  • Covered in Gunge: At the end of the episode, Leshawna switches the pipes so Heather will get covered in sewage while she's in the shower.
  • Crocodile Tears: Heather commences her scheme to break up Trent and Gwen by fake crying on the Dock of Shame. Trent reaches out to console her over whatever has her wailing, at which point she maneuvers her way to tearfully relaying how cruel Gwen's been to her and that she's been saying awful things about Trent too. Trent doesn't know what to think, but doesn't dismiss Heather's claims.
  • Cute Creature, Creepy Mouth: The rabbit near Bridgette's key has a big mouth and a mighty roar.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Heather's flaw of recklessness rises once again in this episode. She barely avoided elimination after the diary incident, but now that the teams have merged, Heather needs to avoid giving everybody a reason to vote her off. Her stunt with Trent would have guaranteed she would have went home had it not been for her getting immunity.
  • Disappointed in You: The other contestants in the confessional, when they vote for Trent after hearing about him kissing Heather.
    Duncan: You messed up, dude.
Bridgette: You leave us no choice.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Despite being swarmed by bees one minute and strangled and bitten by a snake the next, Izzy shows no signs of panic; in the latter case, she was even talking to the snake as if were docile.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Chris leaving out the fact some keys don't open any chests seemed like an actual mistake. Later seasons would have this omission be entirely intentional.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even Duncan is disgusted when he heard that Trent kissed Heather and broke Gwen's heart.
  • Forceful Kiss: Heather becomes concerned about Gwen's and Trent's developing romance, because a relationship equals an alliance and that's competition she can't afford. So she arranges for Gwen to walk in on her and Trent kissing by means of a fake letter. She lures Trent to the Dock of Shame and tearfully spits out lies that Gwen confessed to the other girls that she dislikes Trent and only uses him to get ahead in the game. After having broken down Trent emotionally, Heather grabs Trent's chin to pull him into a kiss when Gwen appears on the scene. Gwen leaves heartbroken and although Trent tries to get away, Heather keeps him locked into the kiss until she's sure Gwen's truly gone.
  • Forged Message: To put her plan to break up Gwen and Trent in motion, Heather has Lindsay plant a fake letter on Gwen's bed.
  • Frame-Up: Heather feels threatened by the romance-alliance of Gwen and Trent and so sets out to break them up. To this end, she arranges for first Trent and later Gwen to come to the Dock of Shame. Heather keeps Trent busy until Gwen approaches and forces a kiss on him for Gwen to witness and assume that Trent is cheating on her. Gwen leaves in tears and while by the end of the day Heather's manipulations come to light, it isn't until after Trent has already been voted off for being a two-timer (Heather has immunity that day and couldn't be voted off).
  • Gambit Roulette: While viewing Gwen and Trent's relationship as an alliance was somewhat flimsy, Heather kissing him with no way of knowing she'd get invincibility screams this.
  • Killer Rabbit: Bridgette has go up against a literal one on order to get her key.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Although Heather is invincible tonight, Leshawna makes her pay dearly for what she did at the end of the episode.
  • Loophole Abuse: Chris cruelly makes use of this when he destroys the trailer Leshawna won in the previous episode with a cannonball. He said that she could take it home at the end of the summer, but he didn't warn her of the chances of something happening to it before then.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Heather has always been this throughout the season, but it's especially obvious in this episode.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Gwen sees Heather and Trent kissing and assumes that Trent is deliberately cheating. Except that the kiss was completely against Trent's will.
  • Oh, Crap!: Owen when the sleeping bear gets its paws on him. He even says this word for word over and over as it's happening.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: To get payback for Heather's treachery on Gwen's behalf, Leshawna switches the fresh water and septic lines at the washrooms while Heather was taking a shower, resulting in her getting Covered in Gunge.
  • Plot Armor: Comes into play yet again for Heather, who got an invincibility pass in her treasure chest, effectively sealing Trent's fate.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Neither Gwen nor Trent confessing their feelings to each other, Gwen actually wondering why Lindsay suddenly burst out of the cabin, or asking Trent about the letter he "wrote", allows Heather to manage to break the two up, and Trent gets eliminated. Similarly, Leshawna decides to eliminate Heather or Trent on the spot, rather than confront Heather or Trent directly to get the full story. While Leshawna may have her reasons to get rid of Heather ASAP, Trent is less justified.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a play on the military strategy "Search and Destroy".
  • Relationship Sabotage: Heather becomes concerned about Gwen's and Trent's developing romance, because a relationship equals an alliance and that's competition she can't afford. So she arranges for Gwen to walk in on her and Trent kissing by means of a fake letter. She lures Trent to the Dock of Shame and tearfully spits out lies that Gwen confessed to the other girls that she dislikes Trent and only uses him to get ahead in the game. Heather kisses Trent when Gwen shows up, making her believe that Trent's unfaithful and letting Trent believe he's being used while ensuring that neither would want to talk to the other any time soon. Due to her meddling, Trent is voted off that evening, but the truth also comes out and the two resume their relationship.
  • Sexy Silhouette: Heather, when she showers at the end of the episode.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Some of the keys don't open any chests.
  • Shirtless Scene: Trent, at the beginning, while he was swimming in the lake.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Bridgette's key is guarded by a killer rabbit.
    • The prize Leshawna receives from her treasure chest is a leg lamp.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Izzy has to get her key from a large snake. It bites her repeatedly, though she acts like that it's fine.
Izzy: (with the snake wrapped around her) Hey, guys! Phew, what stinks?!
Duncan: Izzy, you got a snake on your head.
Izzy: I know, but don't worry. He's friendly. (the snake bites her and everyone gasps in terror) See? Kisses! (falls unconscious)
  • Talk Like a Pirate: Chris puts up a heavy pirate accent for the treasure hunt challenge.
  • Toilet Humor:
    • Geoff having to get his key from the septic tank.
    • Leshawna also delivers Heather's karma this way when she's showering, by switching the fresh water and septic lines to the washrooms.
  • Tranquil Fury: Leshawna is absolutely irate over Heather's stunt involving Trent after she learns about it, yet the only thing that gives her fury away is her voice.
  • Wham Episode: Gwen and Trent are put through hell by Heather's deception and Relationship Sabotage and Trent is voted off before Gwen finds out the truth. This forces her to spend the rest of the competition without the guy she likes and makes her rivalry with Heather even more bitter.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: While hiding from Gwen in the cabin, Lindsay encounters several cockroaches. When Gwen finally leaves the cabin, Lindsay bolts out screaming.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: How Heather lures Trent to the dock and keeps him there long enough to kiss him once Gwen shows up.
  • Zonk: The rewards the campers get range from random pieces of junk to snacks to nothing at all for all they went through, even though Geoff seems to like his cologne. The only prize that doesn't fall under this trope is Heather's immunity pass in her gift basket.
