Recap / Total Drama: "Paddle Field Earth"

Go To

Zee finds himself pulled in two directions when the Julia-Millie-Priya alliance and Bowie-Chase-Emma alliance both ask him to join them during a nature hike up to Honey Mountain.

Tropes:

  • Bait the Dog: Chris assures the cast that since the producers has issues with the danger in the last two challenges, this challenge would be nice and serene. He also doesn't mention that the stream is full of spawning salmon, bears, and crocodiles and also ends in a waterfall, the field is full of geysers, and Honey Mountain is full of bees. Priya is the only one who sees through him.
  • Bee Afraid: Especially when the bees have colonized an entire mountain and imprison intruders in honeycomb.
  • Berserk Button: Bowie telling Julia that most of her followers are bots causes Julia to go insane, with her throwing him into the inside of Honey Mountain.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Julia and Bowie get into one when they reach the top of honey mountain.
  • Call-Back: Chef is seen with a cup of Rainbow Pegasus Juice Mix.
  • Delicious Distraction: Zee interrupts Emma and Chase's bear-hosted funeral by throwing a salmon over their heads.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Emma abuses her ex boyfriend Chase in this episode more than once with the incidents being Played for Laughs and deemed karmic for Chase given the many times he placed Emma in danger from his pranks despite never intending to actually hurt her. Emma’s abuse towards Chase consisted of beating him up with a live fish on a canoe and then refusing to help Chase when he trapped in a wall of honey.
  • Face Palm: Zee does this when he tries to high five his brain.
  • Genre Savvy: Priya correctly realizes that Chris is totally lying about the challenge being safe well before they even hit the danger.
  • Hornet Hole: The inside of Honey Mountain, which has honeycombs big enough to trap Sasquatchanakwa.
  • Humiliation Conga: Julia gets stomped on by bears, smacked into the air by crocodiles, stung by bees, and nearly loses a fight to Bowie. It's not over even after she gets immunity, as she then falls off the mountain, stung again, falls head-first into a geyser that blasts her back to the top of the waterfall, where she falls again.
    • Chase goes through this too as he is not only assaulted by Emma with a fish but he also gets trapped in a wall of honey with Emma refusing to help him get out
  • Inevitable Waterfall: The waterfall is unfortunately part of the race, so the campers have to descend it no matter what. Julia is unfortunate enough to have to do it twice.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Zee is the first character to notice how the confessionals seem to happen in real time, as opposed to before or after the challenges.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: The bottom of the waterfall is also a crocodile pit.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Bowie wins his fight against Julia and almost wins the challenge, but stops to gloat and tells her that her followers are bots. Julia doesn't take it too well, causing her to get a second wind, throws him into the honey, rings the bell, and gets immunity.
  • Oh, Crap!: Priya, Millie and Emma react like this upon discovering that Honey Mountain is a giant beehive.
  • Palate Propping: Julia uses a broken oar to keep a crocodile's mouth open. The croc still has a working tail, which it uses to smack her around.
  • Plank Gag: Priya smacks Millie with a broom twice when she turns to Julia, who had come to greet them.
  • Playing Possum: Emma and Chase play dead to trick some bears. As dramatic as Chase makes it, it works a little too well, causing the bears to bury them alive and hold a funeral for them.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: Chris allows a revote that gets Zee kicked off the island. Zee had just expressed a desire to get rid of him, but revotes had never happened before.
  • Seemingly Profound Fool: Zee joins both alliances, appearing to the others as a wild card who could easily manipulate both teams. Then he decides to try and unite everyone to vote off Chris, which isn't possible and causes everyone to vote him off instead.
  • I Shall Taunt You: After seemingly putting Julia out of commission, Bowie taunts her by telling her that he is going to win immunity, and to rub more salt in the wound tells her that most of her followers are bots. Unfortunately for Bowie, that just so happens to be Julia's Berserk Button, causing her to stand back up, beat him into a pulp, and throw him into the honey, ringing the bell and getting immunity for herself.
  • Shamu Fu: Emma starts slapping Chase with a salmon after he accidentally sinks her canoe.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: Julia twirls her oar to keep the jumping salmon from hitting her.
  • Super-Fun Happy Thing of Doom: Honey Mountain is actually a giant beehive. The bees encase anything that trespasses in wax.
  • Sustained Misunderstanding: Zee accidentally keeps one up throughout the episode, doing things that make him look smart to the others and getting them to think he's a secret genius. He blows it by the end of the episode.
  • Titled After the Song: The title of the episode is a reference to Rihanna's song "Bitch Better Have My Money".
  • Would Hit a Girl: Bowie has no problem fighting Julia throughout pretty much the whole challenge.
