Go To

Cameron and Lightning battle it out for the million dollars, and find out that there's more than that on the line beforehand.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly High-Stakes Game: The finale becomes this to both finalists, Cameron needing the money to get oxygen for his bubble and Lightning needing to win lest his father lose his championship rings.
  • All There in the Manual: Supplementary materials state that Cameron tries to patent his Powered Armor, but a hotshot American billionaire beat him to it.
  • Anything but That!: Scott's reaction upon Chris threatening to sic Fang on the eliminated should they not cheer is to beep a lightning fast successions of "no".
  • Back for the Finale: The eliminated contestants, as usual. Almost every single mutant also return, as obstacles for Cameron and Lightning.
  • Badass Boast: Before the final challenge begins, Lightning sees Cameron has a suitcase with him instead of any weapons. He mockingly asks if Cameron is going to run home to mommy. Cameron responds with "No, that's your job!" and kicks open the suitcase, activating his armor.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Lightning in his ending. He had been the season antagonist ever since Scott left, and no one seems all too happy with his win besides Lighting himself.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Lightning over his father wagering his four championship rings on his son winning.
    • Anne Maria when the mutant gopher zaps her hair.
  • Big "YES!": Cameron when he wins in his ending.
  • Blowing a Raspberry:
    • Chris plays Roman emperor and tells one of the "slaves" (interns) to bring him his "mystic seeing glass" (television set). The intern isn't amused and blows a raspberry at the host. Chris tries to own it by claiming that in Ancient Rome blowing a raspberry was a sign of respect. Cameron tells him it wasn't, whereupon Chris changes the subject.
    • If Cameron wins the finale, his victory confessional ends on a message to his opponent Lightning. It's a raspberry.
  • Bookends: This season began with Chris blowing up the cast's boat. In this episode, Chris tries to do the same thing, but Chef has moved the bomb to being underneath Chris.
  • Break the Haughty: Happens to Lightning in Cameron's ending. After spending the entire season boasting about himself, and targeting Cameron specifically for the last few episodes, he ends up losing to Cameron in the finals. He denies it at first, saying the challenge must have been rigged, only to quickly burst into tears over it, apologizing to his father, who bet his championship rings on Lightning's victory.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • This is the first, and only, season finale where the challenge doesn't involve a race.
    • On a lesser note, this is the only finale with no kissing shown and where the finalists are the same gender.
  • Bucket Helmet: In preparation for the gladiatorial match, Lightning dons himself in makeshift armor. He cuts open a saucepan's side to make room for his face and hammers the pan down to fit around his skill. The rudimentary helmet serves him for most of the match until by chance Cameron knock it off him.
  • Captive Audience: The eliminated contestants are told by Chris to cheer for either Cameron or Lightning. Most don't have a problem cheering for Cameron, but they're told failure to cheer at all will result in some one-on-one time with Fang.
  • Character Development: Cameron in his ending, where he decides he doesn't need the bubble anymore and opts to share his prize money with everyone.
  • Chekhov's Army: Every mutant faced this season returns.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Cameron can't resist helping his fellow campers when the various mutants that escape go after them.
  • Continuity Nod: Mike is terrified of the mutant gophers. This is a reference to "A Mine is a Terrible Thing to Waste", in which Mike almost died trying to hold back a mutant gopher.
  • Crowd Surfing: In Cameron's version, Zoey, Mike, Sam, and an unclear fourth person raise Cameron up above them when he's defeated Lightning.
  • The Dreaded: Upon the other mutants being released all at once, Zoey expresses fear of Larry, while Mike panics over the mutant gophers.
  • Dude, Where's My Reward?: In Lightning's ending, Jo is annoyed after he refuses to share any of the prize money with her and the rest of the contestants of the season.
Jo: (Confessional) I dragged both of these maroons to the finale, where's MY million dollars? What a ripoff!
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Cameron in his ending.
  • Easily Forgiven: Cameron (in his ending) shares his money with the rest of the contestants. Including Scott, and Lightning.
  • Entitled Bitch: Jo in Lightning's ending.
  • Escaped Animal Rampage: Chris has many of the island's captured to be used as his whim against the finalist during the gladiatorial battle. However, his remote gets destroyed, which sets all the captive mutants free at once. Chaos ensues. The mutant squirrel attacks the audience and Anne Maria in particular, but she is saved by Ezekiel, whom she's then saved from by Cameron. The mutant gophers go after Chris, whom is saved by Larry, whom he then sics on everyone else. A mutant turtle stomps on Sam, prompting Dakota to attack the creature. And tree tentacles punch down on B mercilessly.
  • Fanfare: Two of the interns blow trumpets to announce the arrival of Chris McLean. They do not actually have the lung capacity to produce anything more than an exaggerated spitting sound and so they bring along a boombox to produce the fanfare.
  • Flat Joy: Jo when told to cheer for the finalists.
  • Freudian Excuse: Lighting's competitiveness and ego are revealed to be the result of pressure to live up to his championship football player dad.
  • Grand Finale: Of Revenge of the Island.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Anne Maria is seen glaring, as Mike and Zoey hold hands.
  • Groin Attack: After being tossed around by a mutant alligator, Lightning lands right on his groin.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In Lightning's ending, Cameron falls to the ground first after his armor is shorted out by his Electromagnetic charge. This lets Lightning fall on him and win.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: Zoey when the mutant alligator grabs Cameron. Chris says she really should, expecting the ratings to be huge.
  • Immediate Sequel: The episode begins shortly after the last one ended, with Cameron and Lightning walking back to their cabins the same night Zoey was eliminated.
  • Irony: Lightning, was struck by Lightning, thanks to Cameron’s Electromagnetic charge.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After four brutal seasons where he repeatedly tortured the contestants, got several interns killed or maimed, and hid behind contracts, Chris finally gets his comeuppance when the Canadian government arrests him for creating a hazardous environment.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Chris gets blown up by his explosives then arrested for his waste dumping.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The Camper's reaction to the mutants entering the stadium.
  • Mouse Trap: Chef holds the briefcase with the prize money while Chris gives his introduction speech. He takes the opportunity to attempt to sneak some of the bills in his own pockets, but finds that Chris is one step ahead of him when his fingers get caught in a mouse trap that was was hidden beneath the bills.
  • Multiple Endings: In both Australia and the US, with the later having Lightning's ending in the broadcast version, and Cameron's ending in the iTunes and Netflix version.
  • No Sympathy: Scott was so badly mauled by Fang that he's unable to speak and left in a trauma chair. Cameron is at least a little concerned to see him like this, but otherwise Scott gets this treatment. Chris openly doubts anyone particularly cares since it's just Scott, leading to the eliminated contestants (many of whom got burned by Scott) to openly laugh at him.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: In Lightning's version, Lightning gets struck by lightning, comments excitedly that he's going to the Super Bowl, and passes out on top of Cameron, which incidentally nets him the victory.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Why Lightning attacks the mutant alligator for grabbing Cameron.
  • Powered Armor: Cameron makes some out of the junk their given.
  • Precision-Guided Boomerang: Cameron throws a saucepan at Ezekiel to knock him out when he tries to win Anne Maria's affections.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": After being mauled by Fang, Scott's been put in a trauma chair. Too injured to talk, the suit allows him to communicate with a green light (implied to stand for "yes") and a red light (implied to stand for "no"). When Chris brings out Fang to force the losers to act as a proper audience, the trauma chair's red light rapidly blinks.
  • Rescue Romance: Averted. Ezekiel assumes Anne Maria will kiss him when he saves her from a mutant gopher, but she screams in horror.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Brick in Cameron's ending.
Brick: Fashion School here I come! (everyone looks at him surprised) Yeah, you heard me.
  • Reused Character Design: Some of the government agents are copies of Chef's hazmat suit model.
  • Share the Male Pain: After Lightning lands on his groin, Chris winces in sympathy.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spoiler Title: With the title of the episode spoiling the theme of the finale, it's rather easy to predict who the finalists will be. Aside from Cameron, the only real option for the brain category is B, who's eliminated early on. The brawn category is admittably harder, but once Brick is eliminated halfway through the season and Jo is in episode 10, it becomes quite obvious Cameron and Lightning would be the final two.
  • Unwanted Rescue: Ezekiel saves Anne Maria from the mutant gopher, and then immediately tries to kiss her, causing Cameron to save her from him.
  • Victorious Loser: In Lightning's ending, even though Cameron lost to him, he says that not needing his bubble anymore is a personal win.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Lightning is revealed to be this when we find out that his dad is a championship footballer.
  • Wham Episode: At the end of the episode, Chris gets arrested.
  • Wham Line:
    Government Official: You're busted, McLean!
    Chris: For what?
Government Official: For creating an environmental disaster, that's what! Residents of Wawanakwa, your Island is under GOVERNMENT PROTECTION! You are hereby QUARANTINED! Prepare for heavy scrubbing and DECONTAMINATION!
