This episode provides examples of:

Overall:

Real Kids Don't Eat Broccoli:

  • Bait-and-Switch: After Babs tells Buster about the case of the missing droids, Buster tells her, "Okay, I'll take your case!", and takes a box that says, CARROT CASE.
  • Bond One-Liner: After defeating the droids with a Computer Virus, Buster quips "Hope I didn't bug ya!".
  • The Door Slams You: Happens to the Hamton droid when Babs makes her way into Buster's office.
  • G-Rated Drug: Plucky's video game addiction.
  • Hurricane of Puns: The entire scene where Miss Bunny is at Buster's office is full of them.
  • Kids Hate Vegetables: Buster manages to spot the evil droids on the basis that they like broccoli, something real kids don't eat.
  • Latex Perfection: Buster finds out what looks like his friends are really the missing androids he was looking for, all dressed in rubber masks.
  • Literal-Minded: Buster tells the Hamton droid to get the door for Babs. The Hamton droid does so by pulling the door off its hinges and bringing it to her.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The droids have a massive Freak Out when Buster reveals he's armed with a computer virus.
  • Pun: When Miss Bunny (aka Babs) says she's looking for Buster Bunny the Gum-shoe, Buster pulls a piece of gum off of his foot.
  • Title Drop: At the end of the cartoon, when Miss Bunny asks Buster how he saw through the droids' disguises, he says:
"Easy, real kids don't eat broccoli".
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The droids that went missing were Killer Robots planning a revolt to make humanity their slaves.
  • 20 Minutes into the Future: The story is set in the year 2035.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Maltese Falcon and Blade Runner.

Boo Ha Ha:

Duck Dodgers Jr.:

  • Art Shift: The shot of the animator at the end is very clearly rotoscoped from live-action.
  • Chaste Toons: Marcia is Marvin's niece.
  • Creator Cameo: The animator is played by director Kent Butterworth.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: As Dodgers and Marvin battle each other, Plucky and Marcia build a block tower from the blocks made by Marvin's Matter-Transmogrifier.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Marvin attempted to used his Matter-Transmogrifier on Dodgers; unfortunately, since Dodgers had run up behind him when it had him cornered, the machine ended up sucking up Marvin too.
  • Mundane Utility: Marvin uses his Matter-Transmogrifier to transform planets into blocks...for Marcia's block collection.
  • Reality-Breaking Paradox: This short ends with Marvin's Matter-Transmogrifier sucking up everything in the universe, including the very animator who drew the cartoon.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century. Maurice Noble, the original layout designer for the short, provided some of the designs for this segment.
  • Traveling-Pipe Bulge: Happens to anything that gets sucked into the Matter-Transmogrifier; including planets, Dodgers and Marvin.
