Recap / Tiny Toon Adventures S 1 E 14 The ACME Acres Zone

Go To

The fourteenth episode of Tiny Toon Adventures.

A parody of The Twilight Zone with Buster as Rod Serling (and Furrball as his wig).

Short One: "A Walk on the Flip Side"

Montana Max dreams that he has become a rabbit. He finds Buster and Babs living in his house, who call an animal shelter and have him taken away. After waking from the dream, Monty promises to be nice to rabbits, which he disregards as he throws Buster and Babs out into the cold. However, Monty then finds several rabbits in his cabinets.

Short Two: "A Bacon Strip"

Plucky and Hamton sneak onto Montana Max's property, and Hamton goes skinny-dipping in the pool. After having his clothes stolen, Hamton has to return naked to his house, where his friends have planned a surprise birthday party.

Short Three: "Senserely Yours, Babs"

Babs loses her sense of humor (personified as a ghost of herself), and Hamton and Calamity attempt to capture it.

This episode provides examples of:

Overall:

A Walk on the Flip Side:

  • Angry Guard Dog: Towards the end of this short, when Monty refuses to give Buster and Babs carrots when they beg him to do so, he sets a pack of dogs out to attack them. Buster and Babs escape from them by burrowing.
  • Color Me Black: This short has Montana Max, "rabbit-hater extraordinaire," wake up to find that he's a rabbit himself.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: During Monty's nightmare, he is put in a Heffalumps and Woozles-esque sequence wherein he is eaten and later spit out by a giant colorful rabbit.
  • Twist Ending: Lampshaded; Montana Max dreamed he was a rabbit and went through numerous hardships. But when Buster and Babs beg for carrots, Monty shouts, "Carrots?! You have the nerve to ask me for carrots?! AFTER WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH?!" Babs is dismayed that Monty didn't learn anything and that the short didn't have a twist ending (per usual for The Twilight Zone), but Buster tells her to wait for it. Sure enough, Monty's mansion is then overrun by rabbits, a fitting punishment. Babs also twists her ears.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: When Monty, as a rabbit, is taken to the animal shelter, he is put in a room filled with rabbits, and says, "Rabbits! Why did it have to be rabbits?".

A Bacon Strip:

  • Bait-and-Switch: When a nude Hamton is spotted by Montana Max's security system, Plucky heroically says "This is a job for...", then says "Someone else." as he climbs down the tree he watches Hamton from.
  • Birthday Episode: The ending reveals that this short takes place on Hamton's birthday.
  • Birthday Suit Surprise Party: When Hamton finally makes it home, a surprise party is awaiting him. Plucky tells him that it was his job to distract him while his friends set up the party. Note that this time, we do see what happens next: Hamton uses a "Happy Birthday" banner as a loincloth and starts eating the cake.
Hamton: Good thing I'm in my birthday suit.
  • Body Paint: Hamton uses graffiti to paint a suit on him when he is forced to get back home naked. The paint only covers his front side, but that isn't what leads to his downfall. It's a car splashing him that does.
  • Dining in the Buff: When a naked Hamton finally makes it home, a surprise party is waiting for him. He uses a "happy birthday" banner as a loincloth and starts eating the cake.
  • Gone Swimming, Clothes Stolen: Happens to Hamton when Plucky forces him to skinny-dip in Monty's pool.
  • Handbag of Hurt: Granny whacks Hamton with her purse when she finds out that he's naked.
  • Helping Granny Cross the Street: On Hamton's way home, Granny asks him to help her cross the street, which he reluctantly does. When a car splashes him, it washes the painted suit off, and a horrified Granny whacks him with her purse.
  • Naked People Trapped Outside: Hamton becomes this after Monty steals his overalls.
  • Passing Judgment: Hamton tries to get home in the nude after his clothes get stolen during a disastrous attempt at skinny-dipping. Naturally, one of the first things he runs into is a late-night tour bus, with the guide pointing out "And to your right, a naked pig."
  • Roadside Wave: Hamton becomes the victim of this, which washes the painted suit off the front half of his skin.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Hamton uses an inner tube to cover himself. Unfortunately, it pops after getting snagged on barbed wire. He has time to say “Uh-oh” before the pool toy deflates like a balloon.
  • Tour Guide Gag: As Hamton tries to get back home without anyone noticing, he gets spotted by a tour bus, who points him out.
Tour Guide: Next on our ACME Acres sightseeing tour is the estate of Montana Max, and to your left is a naked pig.

Senserely Yours, Babs:

  • Banana Peel: Calamity uses one of these to catch Babs' sense of humor when she tries to escape from them in a hospital cafeteria.
  • Pie in the Face: Invoked: Hamton and Calamity set this as a trap to catch Babs' sense of humor, knowing no sense of humor can resist this trope.
  • Race Against the Clock: Though the countdown isn't shown, if Hamton and Calamity don't return Babs' sense of humor to her body by sunset, she will be a nerd forever.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Calamity Coyote manages to catch Babs' runaway sense of humor with a trolley, a banana, and a handful of bars, and then deliver it back to her in the nick of time. This says a lot for a character who has been trying (and failing) to catch Little Beeper throughout the series.
