That carnival ride looks fun, right?note

Jason is so bored that not even thumb-wrestling himself can alleviate his boredom. He grabs a chicken teapot cover and uses it as a monster that the penguins must fight against. That fails to bring the penguin figurines to life, so Jason is stuck reading a Space Camp comic book and wishing he were there. Grandmum comes in and offers Jason a chance to plant some pumpkin seeds with her and Michelle, who decides now's a good time to remind him of that busted video game. Upon hearing this, Jason starts to complain about his time at the cottage. Grandmum chastises him and quotes a Bible verse all about complaining. She tells him if he doesn't control his complaining, it'll spread to everyone around him, making him a seed of discontent. Grandmum tells him where to find her and Michelle.

Jason returns to his sulking, and flicks a grape at the Rockhopper. It starts to fly, and to Jason's excitement, the crew needs his help. However, that excitement dies down when it's revealed that the fuzzy aliens can shave their noses again. Since Jason wants somewhere to go, he and the crew start spitballing places where they can go for the day off, until they decide that the carnival is the best place. Jason is brought aboard, and the Rockhopper flies off to its destination.

After the on-board entertainment, Fidgel singing "The Seats on the Ship", is delivered, Midgel prepares the Rockhopper for landing. The landing gear this time around is a set of wheels, so the landing'll turn out great, right? Wrong! Turns out Midgel crashed the ship into its parking spot.

No matter, they end up taking a shuttle to their destination and meet Uncle Blobb, who was just about to start a train ride with a bunch of pumpkin-headed kids. Uncle Blobb sees his opportunity and offers Jason and the penguins a chance to join him and the kids on their train ride. But before it can begin, he grabs two Blobb Toppers from the train and gives them to Zidgel and Midgel, who put them on.

Jason, Fidgel, and Kevin have the time of their lives at the carnival, but Zidgel, Midgel, and the pumpkin-headed kids stay aboard the train and complain about the rides, no thanks to Uncle Blobb mind controlling them using their Blobb Toppers. Jason, Fidgel, and Kevin wonder how in the galaxy Zidgel, Midgel, and the pumpkin-headed kids are not having any fun at all.

They receive their answer when they sneak into the train's destination, a fun house called..."Fun House". Turns out that when a robotic clown named "Bizzmoff the Amazing Juggler" asks one pumpkin-headed kid if he had fun at the carnival, and when he angrily answers "No!", that kid gets turned into a seed of discontent. As for what happens to that seed next, it goes through this Fun House for preparation to travel to Planet Arrinar. This preparation involves strapping a rocket to it to enable travel. Suspecting that whatever is going on here is no good, Jason uses a device that resembles an arcade game to shut the whole process down before another seed of discontent gets sent to Arrinar.

However, Uncle Blobb catches wind of this and has Fidgel and Kevin (Jason manages to hide from him) thrown into an apple looking case. Turns out, his evil scheme involves depopulating planets. He accomplishes this by getting a willing supply of participants and encourages them to complain constantly until they get turned into seeds of discontent. He has these seeds of discontent send to a certain planet (Arrinar in this case) to have them spread their discontent until the inhabitants get sick of it and evacuate. According to Uncle Blobb, this scheme is perfect since no one is willing to be around a constant complainer. And once the planet depopulating is done, the seeds are disposed of and a new planet is available for redevelopment. Yes, "disposed of" means exactly what you think it means.

Once Zidgel gets turned into a seed of discontent, Jason jumps into action and tries to rescue him from Uncle Blobb's real estate scheme. Thus, a mad chase ensues to prevent Zidgel and Midgel from being sent to Arrinar and to stop Uncle Blobb's planet depopulation scheme. The chase ends when Jason claims to know the solution to this madness. His solution? Give a speech to Zidgel, Midgel, and the pumpkin-headed kids about how they should stop complaining and instead think about all the things that they're thankful for. His plan works, since Arrinar gets restored to his former condition and Zidgel, Midgel, and the pumpkin-headed kids are back to normal. However, Uncle Blobb manages to escape in an outhouse rocket by convincing Zidgel that he needs to use "the facilities".

Back aboard the Rockhopper, Zidgel recaps this episode's events in his captain's blog. All in all, Jason is thankful that the Rockhopper crew is a great team that is fun to do things with. And when he finds himself back at Grandmum's cottage, he decides to join Michelle and Grandmum in their gardening. Once the night falls, he and Michelle say their prayers for the night.

The Amazing Carnival of Tropes:

  • Amusement Park of Doom: Uncle Blobb's Amazing Carnival. Well, the carnival is actually fun; it's the whole turning customers who constantly complain into seeds of discontent that's freaky.
  • The Corrupter: Uncle Blobb encourages anyone who is wearing Blobb Toppers to complain in order to turn them into seeds of discontent.
  • Fat Bastard: Uncle Blobb, as his name implies, is grossly overweight. He's also a vile, manipulative schemer with an evil plan to depopulate and take over entire planets.
  • Happy Circus Music: Played straight and then subverted. Uncle Blobb sings an upbeat song about his carnival (accompanied by him playing a calliope). However, Blobb soon switches to singing about why his visitors shouldn't like his carnival or any of the rides, since he secretly has an evil plan depending on this. The tune stays mostly the same, though.
  • Karma Houdini: Uncle Blobb manages to get away with nearly destroying a bunch of pumpkin-headed kids in seed form for a real estate scheme by escaping in a rocket disguised as an outhouse.
  • Mobile Shrubbery: When they try to find out what Uncle Blobb is up to, Jason moves around in a garbage can, Fidgel moves around in a cardboard box, and Kevin just hides behind a small piece of cotton candy.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Uncle Blobb's plan actually requires his visitors to hate and complain about his carnival, since this is the only way to turn them into seeds of discontent. Blobb goes as far as to convince visitors not to ride each ride, and even encourages them to insult him. Jason foils Blobb's plan by teaching everyone to stop complaining, which saves them from being corrupted.
