"Is that you, Hinata?"

Side Despair #08: The Worst Reunion by Chance (偶然にも最悪な会)

Hope's Peak is plunged into despair after the Student Council's massacre, and Komaeda tests his luck.

or, Class 77 searches for Mikan, Mitarai learns of Junko's true intentions, and things continue to spiral out of control.

  • Always Someone Better: Nagito's luck gets upstaged by Izuru's when Nagito's gun jams.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Mikan, to very, very disturbing levels.
  • The Bus Came Back: Nagito comes back, with gifts.
  • The Cameo: Yasuke Matsuda briefly appears, looking at the Reserve Course Parade.
  • The Chessmaster: Nagito. Once he came back, he found Junko's hideout, knew what she intended to do and about the Izuru Kamukura project and tried to end her right there.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Peko got her ass kicked by Mukuro.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The title, since in the end, Hinata and Nanami meet again, after Hinata became Izuru and shot Nagito in front of her, with Junko in the room and Yukizome on the way, while the Parade is happening and the group is completely separated.
  • Fan Disservice: Mikan becomes this. She drools and bleeds all over herself, gets off from the Domestic Abuse Junko does to her, seemingly orgasms when Junko kicks her in the face, tries to rape Mitarai. So yeah, the despairing version of a Ms. Fanservice.
  • Held Gaze: After Izuru shoots Nagito, he immediately turns his attention to Chiaki, tossing the gun aside and locking gazes with her for several long moments.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: For one of the grimmest episodes yet, during the entire episode there's a really gray-sky and rain pouring down during the entire day.
  • Meet Cute / Love Bubbles: Seemingly mocked/parodied with Izuru and Nagito when the former shoots the latter. The color scheme of the scene changes and it all goes into slow motion.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The battle between Mukuro and Peko seems amazing, too bad we only catch a glimpse.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Yukizome didn't get any of Sakakura's calls, leading her to finding Mitarai and being sent to Junko's hideout.
  • The Stinger: Shows Chiaki recognizing Izuru, calling out a hesitant "...Hinata-kun?"
  • The Worf Effect: For all his The Chessmaster and Born Lucky qualities, Izuru is even luckier than him, taking him off in a matter of seconds.
