Recap / The Vision Of Escaflowne E 23 Storm Premonition

Go To

  • The Alliance: With confirmation of Zaibach's endgame, Austuria forges an alliance with pretty much every other nation on Gaea to take the fight to Dornkirk.
  • Broken Pedestal: Like Millerna before her, Hitomi's perception of Allen takes a blow upon learning of his forbidden romance with Marlene and that Chid is their love child.
  • Defector from Decadence: Zigzagged. Folken is still loyal to Dorkirk's basic ideology about forging a peaceful, better world free from uncertainty. It's Dornkirk's methods which Folken's come to oppose, accepting that they've become too extreme and he's now endangering Gaea.
  • Dramatic Irony: While Folken shares intel on Dornkirk's plans and endgames, only the audience remains aware of Operation Golden Rule of Love (which he perhaps awkwardly and understandably does not share with Van, Hitomi, or Allen). It makes Hitomi's willingness to trust Folken likewise ironic because she doesn't know her and Allen's infatuation was influenced by him.
  • I Have This Friend: Hitomi discusses Allen, the revelation of Chid's parentage, and her own feelings with Millerna by pretending she's 'asking about a friend of hers' — ironically just like Millerna did in Episode 15. In fact, repeating the same words verbatim is what makes Hitomi realize who Millerna was talking about then (and likewise for Millerna to realize Hitomi's discussing Allen and she now knows).
  • Internal Reveal: Hitomi finally learns that Allen is Chid's biological father (and that Millerna likewise has known since Freid and that this what she was trying to talk to her about during Episode 15).
  • Ironic Echo: Hitomi unwittingly quoting Millerna's I Have This Friend discussion. Again, it's what makes her finally realize what that earlier conversation was actually about.
  • Rage Quit: Hitomi unintentionally leaves Gaea this way, as her anger over the war an violence triggers the Pendant and summons the Pillar of Light.
