Recap / The Vision Of Escaflowne E 22 The Black Winged Angel

Go To

  • The Bus Came Back: Dilandau, although it won't be clear until next episode as he's reverted to Celena in the interim since being relieved of duty.
  • Cassandra Truth: The Asturian politicos do not take Allen or Van's warnings about what they uncovered in Atlantis and how it relates to Dornkirk's plans seriously.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • The Asturian elites are worried about the lack of any official response from Folken or Zaibach. They don't know there isn't any official response, because Folken's gone AWOL and thrown Zaibach's government into chaos.
    • Since the second episode, the official Fanelian stance on Folken and the Rite of Succession is that he was a coward and fled in disgrace. It's now revealed here that Folken didn't actually flee, but was 'rescued' (read: abducted) by Zaibach.
  • Head-in-the-Sand Management: The Asturian elites propose appeasing Dornkirk by handing over Hitomi as he's demanded. Dryden shoots them down, rightly pointing just out how stupid this plan is. Any goodwill they might've extended towards Zaibach previously is now out the window after the attack on the wedding and the accompanying casualties and damage to the capital. More, with the intel Allen, Van, and Hitomi brought back from Zaibach (along with what Dryden himself saw at Atlantis), Dryden knows Dornkirk getting his hands on Hitomi and her abilities would be very bad.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The flashbacks to Folken's failed Rite of Succession, which we've seen glimpses of in past episodes, are finally shown in their entirety as we learn what really happened.
