Recap / The Ultimate Evil, "The J-Team"

Go To

As Shendu and the Dark Hand travel to Tibet in search of the Pan'Ku Box, Jade calls in some additional help to stop them. A retelling of "The J-Team".

  • Balls of Steel: Downplayed like with Hak Foo in "The Black Tiger"; Valerie's Groin Attack does nothing but distract Shendu for a brief moment before he furiously comes at her again.
  • Broomstick Quarterstaff: Valerie picks up a mop when she runs after Jade and Paco who're chasing the Dark Hand, though she breaks off the head.
  • By the Hair: Valerie is on the receiving end of this from Shendu after she angers him with a Groin Attack.
  • Call-Back: Valerie doesn't know who El Toro, Paco and Viper are because she became acquainted with the Chan Clan only after Jackie and Jade met them, so she needs to be filled in by Jade about them.
  • Cliffhanger: The heroes realize what Shendu intends to do with the Pan'Ku Box, while Valerie keeps to herself that Shendu kissed her.
  • Forceful Kiss: Shendu pulls this on Valerie at the end of their confrontation in the Tibetian temple, with no-one managing to notice in the midst of the battle.
  • Groin Attack: Valerie uses this to free herself from Shendu's grasp during the fight in the Tibetian temple.
Shendu: I am a demon sorcerer, my dear, you cannot overpower me.
Valerie: But you're in a mortal man's body now Shendu, that means you have weaknesses.
    Shendu: Like what?
Valerie: This! [jerks her knee in his crotch]
  • Guile Hero: After Jade convinces everyone to follow Jackie and Uncle despite their refusal of the help, Valerie marvels at how the girl is skilled at pulling strings with anyone but her uncle and thinks she'd make a great politician.
  • Loophole Abuse: Defied by Valerie in the Tibetian temple; she makes Jade and Paco remain in a safe spot by wording her instructions in such a precise way that Jade can't worm her way out of them.
  • Noisy Shut-Up: When El Toro attacks Tohru, unaware that the latter is no longer working for the Dark Hand, Valerie gets the fight to stop by shouting loudly that Tohru is on the good side now.
  • The One Thing I Don't Hate About You: While Shendu hates being trapped in Valmont's body, he does appreciate that it makes him more compatible to Valerie's physique.
  • Only Sane Man: With Jackie, Viper, Uncle and El Toro too busy arguing about the importance of the Talismans and who's to blame for them still being in the Dark Hand's possession, and Tohru trying in vain to make them all stop, Valerie is the first one to notice that Jade and Paco have sneaked off. Failing to get the others' attention, she has to run after the kids by herself.
  • Perverted Sniffing: As Shendu reads the book he took from Valerie in the previous chapter, he enjoys the remains of her scent on it.
As [Shendu] flicked through the pages of the book, he could almost detect the last remnants of [Valerie's] scent lingering on the pages where she'd had it tucked in the waistline of her jeans. He struggled not to purr.
  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: Shendu's Forceful Kiss on Valerie leaves her so shocked she can't prevent him from escaping with the Pan'Ku Box.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Though Valerie initially objects to Jade's demand for the J-Team to follow Jackie and Uncle against their wishes, one look at Jade's pleading eyes (and a comment from Viper) gets her to relent.
  • Suggestive Collision: Valerie lands on top of a sleeping Shendu during the fight in the Tibetian motel. As soon as he wakes up and the situation dawns on him, he's pleased by this surprise. It doesn't get further after Valerie gets herself away from him because Shendu deems it's time to continue the search for the Pan'Ku Box.
  • Take a Third Option: When Jade and Paco are arguing back and forth if it will be Jackie or El Toro who'll rescue them from the Dark Hand, Valerie bursts in and snarks that maybe she will rescue them instead.
