Gargamel disguises himself as a Smurf to infiltrate in the Smurf Village.

Tropes associated with this episode include

  • Battering Ram: The Smurfs use one to enter Papa Smurf's lab, since Gargamel is inside making a potion to recover his real form.
  • Call-Back: To "The Smurfnapper", as Gargamel prepares his next attempt to destroy the Smurfs.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Gargamel turned himself into a Smurf so he can infiltrate them. Except, Azrael comes in the room and thinks he's breakfast. After escaping Azrael, Gargamel forgot that he doesn't know where the Smurf Village is.
  • Dressing as the Enemy / The Mole: Gargamel poses as a Smurf, but lacking a tail which made him a dead giveaway near the end of the story.
  • Go and Sin No More: Gargamel pleads for mercy when Papa Smurf looks like he's going to kill him. Papa Smurf frees him from his bonds and tells him to go and let what has been done to him be a reminder to amend his ways. Gargamel flees, but no sooner afterward he still swears vengeance upon the Smurfs.
  • Impostor-Exposing Test: Unfortunately for Gargamel, when he's caught in his own attempt to sabotage the Smurfs' bridge, his fake tail falls off, a Smurf finds it, and brings it to Papa Smurf. When he realizes this must mean an imposter is around, he pinches the Smurf on the tail to make sure his is real; then the other Smurfs start doing the same to each other, and Gargamel's cover is quickly blown.
  • Impostor Forgot One Detail: Gargamel's impersonation of a Smurf lacked him having a tail. He tries to disguise it by gluing a fake tail on his behind, but eventually the tail falls off, exposing him as the fake Smurf.
  • Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: Papa Smurf does this with the newly-completed bridge.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Attempted by Gargamel and failed, as he didn't know what she actually put the poison into.
  • Trash the Set: Gargamel's final plan as a fake Smurf was to burn the Smurfs and their entire village to the ground, but he gets found out before he could put that plan into motion.
  • Villains Want Mercy: At the end, Gargamel restores his appearance, but not his original height. Seeing he lost, he drops on his knees and begs for his miserable life.
