Recap / The Silverscale Arena S 2 E 23 The Seventh Voyageof Ed

Go To

"When Sakaki and Mizusaki are shrunken by an Evil Sorcerer as part of a blackmail scheme, it's up to the Eds, the Eizouken gang, and several of Sakaki's friends to journey to the island of Colassa to Find the Cure!! All because of something to do with a magic lamp. Will they be able to brave dreadful sirens, giant cyclopses, two-headed Rocs, skeletons, and a furious drake? Maybe the bigger question is if they can cooperate?!"

  • Adapted Out: As the narration mentions, the scene with the cobra-woman was cut out due to having no room to put it in the story.
  • Androcles' Lion: When Ed, Asakusa, and Kagura are attacked by Sokurah's dragon Toro, Ed's able to calm him down by playing a tune on a flute, which allows Toro a moment of reprieve from listening to his own tortured thoughts. So when Sakaki breaks the chain to free him, Toro wastes no time attacking his former master to save his rescuers.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Edd, even after having getting caught up in two incidents involving a space dragon and his pirates attempting to destroy the multiverse and another where an anthro cat took over the Cul-De-Sac with NFTs, refuses to believe Sokurah can perform magic, calling it smoke and mirrors. Sokurah calls him bold for this, considering not too long ago he saw a cyclops with his own eyes!
  • Asshole Victim: All of the Facebook Crew, who attempt a mutiny on our cast not long into the voyage and are massive creeps towards the females of the cast (and Edd).
    • And then we have Sokurah, who coerced the others into helping him get the lamp back by shrinking Sakaki and Mizusaki down to the size of insects. And then planned on sacrificing our heroes in a blood ritual to get revenge on those that wouldn't call him the greatest magician in all of creation.
  • Attackof The 50 Foot Whatever: Sokurah transforms himself into a cyclops in one final attempt to kill our heroes, which is called Sokurlops by the narration.
  • Behemoth Battle: The climax involves the dragon Toro fighting Sokurlops. The dragon wins with some assistance from the other heroes.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Dora the Arthropleura is one of the characters joining Ed on his quest.
  • Big "NO!": When Kagura notices smoke in the sky, she asks if people live here. To which Ed yells "NO!" and tries to convince the others that it's the cyclops.
    • Eddy screams two of these as the cyclops grabs him first and prepares to cook him over a spit.
    • Sokurah scolds Eddy with a "NO!" after Eddy tries to get Ed to use the genie to wish the starving cast an all-you-can-eat-buffet, finding it wasteful.
    • Sakaki cries one out when Dora and Mayaa are sent off a cliff by the parent roc.
    • Sokurah roars a huge one after he watches Mizusaki toss the genie's lamp into the lava and then later two in succession as he tries in vain to order his dragon Toro to kill our heroes.
  • Big "WHAT?!": The cast all have a collective one after Misuzaki wants to toss the genie's lamp, containing their only viable escape option, into the lava.
  • Bond One-Liner: After Eddy gets the cyclops to fall off the cliff to his death, Ed comments "The man has left the building!"
  • Boom, Headshot!: Our heroes land a decisive hit on Sokurlops by firing the arrow in the ballista into his head.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: When Kagura rummages through Asakusa's backpack to find anything useful to deal with the dragon, among the items she sees before noticing the flute includes a compass, a flashlight, a shovel, random mangas, anime stills, and a "skull [she] found after my parents said my uncle just went to a farm".
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: After Tomo and Ms. Yukari show up with the ship, Tomo yells that they should be the main characters of the story, only for Yomi to point out that the title of the story states it's the '7th Voyage of Ed'.
  • Brown Note: Sokurah warns the main cast of demons on Colossa who drive sailors mad with their voices and causes them to crash their ships into rocks, where they're devoured by sea monsters. And they have to find a way to stop the crew that took over the ship from driving them to their doom.
  • The Cameo: Kanye West shows up as part of the Facebook Crew, before being accidentally rammed back to his universe by the boat Ms. Yukari was driving.
  • Call-Back: When Edd demands Eddy explain how this situation involving two women being shrunken down and the only cure is on an island filled with deadly beasts doesn't phase him, Eddy points out they've dealt with other crazy situations in this series:
Eddy: "We get invaded by aliens, get scammed by a weirdo in a cat costume that nearly invests me in crypto, and THIS is the weirdest thing? I’m just glad there’s some kind of upside. Imagine the riches we can get from that island!"
  • Captain's Log: Asakusa starts one after she, Kanamori, and Mizusaki have been stranded in the ocean on a dumpster for 10 minutes, and considers that this might be her final entry if things go bad.
  • Cooking the Live Meal: After the cyclops captures Ed's group and locks them in cages, it grabs Eddy first and prepares to cook him alive. Fortunately, Sokurah's group shows up to distract the cyclops long enough to rescue Eddy and the others.
  • Cranial Eruption: When the cyclops catches Ed, it drags him through his treasure pile before harshly throwing him into the cage, which gives Ed a big lump on his head.
  • Damsel in Distress: To force the others into helping him get the lamp back, Sokurah shrinks Sakaki and Mizusaki down to the size of insects and tells the rest that the cure is back on Colossa.
  • Deflector Shields: Sokurah uses a wish from the genie to make a barrier to protect him, the Eds, and the Eizouken gang from the cyclops as they run to the portals back to their universes.
  • Dem Bones: When the cast refuses to leave, give him the lamp, and wreck his lab even after returning Sakaki and Misuzaki back to normal size, Sokurah reanimates a skeleton to kill them.
  • Disney Villain Death: Muffmuncher30, the one who caused the mutiny, fell off the crow's nest to his demise at some point during the musical number.
    • Eddy manages to kill the cyclops by tricking it into falling off a cliff.
    • Ed defeats the reanimated skeleton by whacking its skull with his tongue, causing the skeleton to lose balance and fall onto some rocks.
  • Dope Slap: Kanamori and Ed smack Eddy upside the head when he considers turning the shrunken Sakaki and Mizusaki into an attraction for profits.
    • Sokurah gives one to Tomo when she talks about owning Colossa and renaming it after herself.
    • When the remaining Facebook Crew members give lusty looks to Tomo and Asakusa, Ms. Yukari smacks all of them upside the head, which almost sends one over a cliff.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: When Tomo jokes that Chiyo should have gotten the height she lost to Sakaki long ago with Sakaki shrunken, Yomi scolds her with "Time and place!".
  • Egopolis: When Eddy’s gang reaches the island of Colossa, he claims it for his own and plans on calling it 'Eddy Island'. Tomo gets the same idea to name the island after herself when the whole cast lands on the island.
  • Eye Scream: When the cyclops inspects the entrance of the crevice the cast ran into, Eddy manages to blind it by jamming a torch at the white-hot tip into its eye.
  • Face Palm: Edd does this after Eddy's rather weak attempt of insulting Asakusa.
    • After Tomo makes a joke in poor taste about Chiyo getting the height she lost to Sakaki after Sakaki's been shrunken, Yomi does this as she scolds Tomo.
  • Fat Bastard: How every member of the Facebook Crew is portrayed as.
  • Freeing the Genie: When Sakaki and Mizusaki enter the genie's lamp and discover that Sokurah imprisoned him in the lamp and planned to have the genie help him in a ritual that would make him powerful, they agree to free the genie by tossing the lamp into lava.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: After the arrow from the ballista hits Sokurlops in the head, Ed grabs the bolt and bisects him, causing the beast to dematerialize.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Sokurah shrinks Sakaki and Mizusaki while they're sleeping to coerce the others into helping him get the lamp back. However the girls' small statures allow them to enter the genie's lamp and discover Sokurah's true intentions with the genie. The genie then helps them come up with a plan to foil Sokurah's scheme.
  • I'm Not Doing That Again: After Eddy manages to kill the cyclops, he tells the rest of the group to promise that they're never doing that again, to which they all agree with a collective "YES.".
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: Sokurah shrinks Sakaki and Mizusaki down as leverage to get the others to help him retrieve the lamp.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When trying to calm everyone of the concerns they have about the Facebook Crew, Sokurah mentions that it was either them or Death Row inmates, and at least the ones he hired don't know how to operate a shiv. One member then pulls out a shiv just to prove him wrong.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Eddy screams for his mommy as the cyclops keeps squeezing his body.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: When most of the cast decides to kill a baby Roc to have as a meal, the parent Roc appears not too long after and attacks the cast for what they did to its child.
  • Lesbian Jock: Kagura, the athletic member of the Azumanga gang, is revealed to have had a crush on Sakaki, only to lose her chance at going out with her when Sakaki ended up dating Ed instead.
  • Lost at Sea: The story begins with the Ed boys stranded in the middle of the ocean on a dumpster, as a portal opened underneath it while they were dumpster diving for anything useful. They then run into Asakusa, Kanamori, and Mizusaki, who are also stuck on a dumpster. Fortunately they're all able to find land not long into their first voyage.
  • Mauve Shirt: The only member of the Facebook Crew to receive a name is the one who leads the mutiny on our cast, who goes by 'Muffmuncher30'.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Ed gets to calm Sokurah's dragon Toro down by using Asakusa's flute to play a tune, with the music distracting the dragon from the sound of its tortured thoughts and allowing it to calm down.
  • The Mutiny: Chapter 3 has a mini-arc involving the Facebook Crew Sokurah hired forcibly taking over the ship from the cast.
  • Oh, Crap!: Kagura screams this verbatim when the cyclops opens the cage to pick someone to cook first.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Kanamori points out that the potential riches on the island won’t matter if they can't find a way off it, Asakusa notes that she's serious since she's ignoring the profits.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Just before Eddy gets the cyclops to fall to its doom by smacking it off a cliff, he tells the monster "Have a nice trip, sucker!".
  • Red Shirt Army: The Facebook Crew, who after attempting a mutiny on our cast, are driven mad by the noises surrounding Colossa and most fall overboard during the musical number. The few members to survive are then killed by the cyclops.
  • Shout-Out: When the cyclops grabs Kanamori and Eddy, it starts squeezing them, causing Eddy to let out a noise akin to a squeaky toy. This amuses the cyclops, and continues squeezing them, which they naturally don't enjoy.
Kanamori: "Why...is this so funny to you?! Our ribs are being broken!"
  • Skewed Priorities: When Ed attempts to fight the cyclops for the first time, he gets distracted replying back to one of Sakaki's texts. This gets him punted into a rock by the cyclops.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Toro, Sokurah's dragon, survives the fight with Sokurah by having the giant crossbow bolt strike Sokuralops instead of him.
  • Spontaneous Choreography: In order to ward off the music of the demons, Ed and company preform "Cabin Fever". Everybody except a very confused Sokurah join in. By the time they're done, the demons have stopped singing.
  • Squashed Flat: The cyclops kills the last Facebook Crew member by stepping on him.
    • Sokurah is finished off by Toro crushing him with one of his claws.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When Sokurah's group reaches a river of blood, he assures the others that it's just the natural color of the drinkable water, and definitely not because of the common bloodshed between the cyclops.
  • Take That!: The crew that Sokurah hires for the trip all come from Facebook. And all of them are portrayed as overweight creeps who are heavily implied to have less-than-pleasant plans for the females (and Edd). And they attempt a mutiny on the gang not long into their voyage. The one Sokurah sent to rally the crew to their cause is Kanye West, who attempts to do a Nazi salute, but gets knocked back to his universe by Ms. Yukari accidentally ramming into him with the boat.
  • Verbal Backspace: After Ms. Yukari shows up with the boat and attempts to rouse the rest of the crew about returning Sakaki back to normal:
Ms. Yukari: "Alright! Who's ready to get rich-I mean, save one of my prized students from her fate?!"
    • She has another one when she has her head in the clouds about the possibilities of what she could get out of this journey:
Ms. Yukari: "Just think about it. All the treasure you could want and a whole documentary dedicated to the ones that risked her-I mean, THEIR lives to save a student."
  • Whole-Plot Reference: This story has the Eds, the main trio of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, and several characters from Azumanga Daioh reenacting the film The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Most of the cast decide to kill a baby roc for a meal out of hunger.
  • You're Insane!: Yukari calls Sokurah insane twice after he announces his plans of sacrificing them in a blood ritual to get revenge on those who wouldn't call him the greatest magician.
    • Kanamori asks Mizusaki if she's insane after suggesting that they toss the genie's lamp, their only way out of the collapsing lair, into the lava.
