Recap / The Secret Show S 2 E 17 World Savers

Go To

A pair of superheroes called the "World Savers" keep saving the earth from robot attacks before U.Z.Z. can, but who are they?

Changed Daily's Name: Fou Fou Flobber Faucet

Secret Tropes uncovered:

  • Alliterative Name:
    • Assistant Assistant, Professor Professor's assistant when he briefly works with him on the Bashy Hand.
    • Fou Fou Flobber Faucet.
  • Butt-Monkey: Victor repeatedly gets hit by the robot's laser beams that crystallize him, and again when the Bashy Hand knocks him off his skybike.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: The World Savers seem to exist mainly to advertise superhero-related products to defeat evil.
  • Deconstruction: The episode is a light deconstruction of superheroes. Instead of fighting for justice, the "World Savers" are blatant sell-outs who advertise every product they use, despite being superhero-related products to defeat evil. Later, it's revealed that they're merely actors. The real brains behind it all is Assistant Assistant.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Assistant Assistant turns out to have been the one responsible for setting up the robot attacks. He only appears in a couple scenes prior to this revelation.
  • Engineered Heroics: Assistant Assistant has been setting up the robot attacks so the World Savers can advertise their superhero-related products.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: A street sign during the first few minutes of the episode reads "Blvd. de Cliché."
  • Hypocritical Humor: A Running Gag in the episode is Fou Fou Flobber Faucet repeatedly asserting that U.Z.Z and its agents would never profit off of saving the world with shameless ploys. This is despite him wearing the same boots as the World Savers, Professor Professor briefly joining the World Savers, and the U.Z.Z crew selling action figurines of Professor Professor, Anita, and Victor at the end.
  • Once an Episode:
    • A hiccuping Sweet Little Granny is evicted from her time-slot by Ray scaring her with a balloon. As Ray admits, she was asking for it (it sadly doesn't work either).
    • Changed Daily's name is "Fou Fou Flobber Faucet" for this episode.
  • Running Gag: Victor being asked if he's still alive when crystallized. Anita holds up his phone specifically so he can answer.
  • Take That!: To salesmen and TV infomercials that sell extremely specific products.
  • You Meddling Kids: After Assistant Assistant is revealed to have been the one to set up the robot attacks, he says, "And I would've gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for you pesky—!"
