Recap / The Real Ghostbusters Slimer 32 Scareface

Go To

Slimer enters the Sedgewick, which was just visited by a different ghost. Guests are complaining to Grout about the other ghost, but he doesn't believe them. Then, the guests see Slimer and run away in fear. He goes to visit Bud, who gives him some food. Then, he clangs on the vent to get the attention of more ghosts, who fly into the kitchen and everyone eats.

Goolem and Zugg appear and they decide to stay at the Sedgewick too for their vacation. Then, Grout gets angry at Bud for reading a funny comic book called Dumbell Dude instead of working. Slimer and his ghost friends have a party, which Goolem and Zugg crash and demand the ghosts scare people on behalf of their boss, Scareface, who is Zugg's uncle. The other ghosts are scared, and Slimer refuses to scare anyone. Goolem intimidates the other ghosts into siding with him and blasts Slimer with his Eye Beams, so he leaves the hotel crying.

The ghosts scare the patrons on Goolem's command, then they wait on him and Zugg, but then two ghosts run in screaming, saying that Scareface is there. However, it turns out to be Slimer in disguise. Goolem and Zugg fall for the disguise, and Slimer tells them to go to the South Pole.

However, then, the real Scareface shows up, and by then they suspect that Slimer was the one who bothered them before (since Scareface isn't known to slime people), so when Scareface arrives, Goolem thinks this is also Slimer and bashes him up. Goolem then sees Slimer, realises his mistake, and apologises. Scareface then zaps Goolem on the butt and he flies away, then Scareface compliments Slimer and drags Zugg away.

This short provides examples of

  • 13 Is Unlucky: The ghosts' party is on the thirteenth floor (which Grout doesn't even realise the Sedgewick has, apparently having skipped it due to being superstitious).
  • Alliterative Title: Bud's comic book is called Dumbell Dude.
  • Artistic License – Animal Care: Zigzagged — the fishbowl is unrealistically small, but then again, the fish in it is dead.
  • Bat Out of Hell: Scareface's arrival is heralded by bats.
  • Black Comedy Pet Death: A fish skeleton is seen in a fishbowl.
  • Circling Birdies: Slimer sees stars after the flirty ghost spins him around.
  • Con Man: Discussed when Grout thinks his guests are lying about the hotel being haunted so that they can have a refund.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: Downplayed when Zugg scares a woman by putting her clothes on — while he is a male ghost in women's clothes, most of the creepiness comes from having a ghost try on one's clothes, regardless of the gender.
  • Dem Bones: The skeleton fish comes to life.
  • Dramatic Irony: Grout says there are no ghosts in the hotel, unaware that Slimer is right behind him.
  • Ectoplasm: Played for laughs when Goolem and Zugg are hit in the face, then later (in Goolem's case) in the torso, with Slimer's slime.
  • Eye Beams: In addition to Goolem, Scareface also has laser vision.
  • Happy Dance: Slimer's ghost friends dance when they cheer Slimer on.
  • Hell Hotel: Zigzagged — the Sedgewick is very popular with ghosts, some of whom are good but some of whom are evil, and in this short, some of the evil ghosts talk most of the non-evil ghosts into scaring the humans too.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Scareface even scares other ghosts, and Zugg's scary faces manage to scare other ghosts.
  • Modesty Towel: One man was apparently scared after his bath and didn't have time to get dressed, but luckily he was already wearing a towel.
  • Mythology Gag: Bud calls Slimer "spud", which is what he got called in the movie.
  • Naked People Are Funny: One of the patrons running from the ghosts wears only a towel.
  • Names To Run Away From Very Fast: The eponymous ghost is named Scareface and wants all humans to live in fear.
  • Nightmare Face: Zugg scares the other ghosts by making ugly faces.
  • Ocular Gushers: When Slimer cries, the tears gush out like a waterfall.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Although the real Scareface arriving is what seals the deal, Goolem and Zugg already suspect that Slimer isn't really Scareface, since Scareface is not known for sliming anyone, yet Slimer slimed Goolem.
  • Ridiculously Alive Undead: As well as Slimer, some other ghosts can also ear.
  • Rump Roast: Scareface zaps Goolem, setting his butt on fire.
  • Scream Discretion Shot: We don't see how the ghosts scare the hotel guests; we just hear them screaming.
  • Silly Spook: Slimer's ghost friends mainly just do silly dances and one insults another with "You look like you're alive!".
  • Slapstick: Bud is spun around by the revolving door.
  • Speak in Unison: When Scareface is first brought up, the other ghosts echo his name in unison.
  • Sucks at Dancing: When the ghosts try to dance, Slimer does the moves wrong and gets in everyone else's way.
  • Tyop on the Cover: Bud's comic book is called Dumbell Dude instead of Dumbbell Dude.
