Recap / The Real Ghostbusters Slimer 29 Show Dog Showdown

Go To

Slimer and Fred are gazing at the meat in the butcher's shop. Slimer goes to buy some, only to belatedly realise he doesn't have any money. He wants to make some money, then both see an ad for a dog show. They look inside the building and find Rafael judging the dog show. Upon hearing that the first prize is a hundred dollars, Slimer decides to have Fred on the show in hopes of winning the money and buying the meat. As part of the plan, he dresses himself up from clothes thrown out by a costume store.

Meanwhile, Professor Dweeb spots Slimer and chases him into the building, only to get stopped by Mrs. Stone, since only people with dogs may enter. Dweeb hears Elizabeth growling, which gives him the idea of entering her in the dog show. When Slimer and Fred enter, Mrs. Stone assigns them to a stall. Elizabeth grooms herself, then walks into the dog show on her own.

Slimer brushes Fred, while Dweeb prepares a machine to catch Slimer, and Elizabeth starts grooming herself again. Slimer then sees that Fred has fleas and scares them off him, leading to them jumping off him and onto Dweeb. They bite him, startling him into zapping a dog instead of Slimer. This locks the dog into a box, and Dweeb and the dog fight each other in the box.

While Rafael and Mrs. Stone inspect the dogs, Dweeb climbs up, and Elizabeth rigs a fire truck toy with a steak. This leads all the dogs to chase it except her and Fred (because Slimer covered Fred's eyes). Rafael yells at the dogs to come back, then disqualifies them when they don't. He and Mrs. Stone add up Fred and Elizabeth's scores, while Dweeb tries to catch Slimer with a spring-loaded plunger but misses.

He pulls it up but ends up pulling the floor up, then falls down. Fred wins first prize and gets the money, while Elizabeth wins second prize (a cat onesie, which Dweeb fell into). Thus, Slimer ends up buying the meat (along with two loaves of bread) and he and Fred feast on it, while Dweeb, still in the cat onesie, is chased by the dogs.

This short provides examples of

  • Amusing Injuries: Dweeb gets bit by fleas, leading to him accidentally catching the dog.
  • Animal Jingoism: The show dogs (except Fred) chase Dweeb when he's wearing a cat onesie.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Elizabeth blows a raspberry at Dweeb while entering the building.
  • Brick Joke: The steak Elizabeth distracts the other dogs with comes back at the end, still attached to the toy fire truck, and Fred eats it.
  • Canine Confusion: For some reason, Fred can't smell the steak when Slimer prevents him from seeing it. Real dogs have a sense of smell better than a human's, so it's odd that they wouldn't be able to smell a steak.
  • Cuckoo Clock Gag: Dweeb wears a cuckoo wristwatch.
  • Delicious Daydream: Slimer gets a thought bubble with the meat he imagines buying with the prize money.
  • Delicious Distraction: Elizabeth gets rid of the other dogs (except Fred, whose eyes were covered by Slimer) by having a fire truck toy carry out a steak.
  • Dog Stereotype: Elizabeth, a poodle, shows a vain side in this episode when she puts a whole lot of perfume on.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Dweeb gets the idea of entering Elizabeth into the dog show to get into the building so he can catch Slimer, from hearing her growl about something unrelated.
  • Food End: The short ends with Slimer and Fred eating the food Slimer bought with the prize money.
  • Hammerspace: Elizabeth whips out a fire truck toy and steak out of nowhere.
  • Imagine Spotting: Fred snaps at Slimer's thought bubble in an attempt to eat the meat within.
  • Nasal Trauma: Dweeb accidentally gets his nose stuck in the car window.
  • No Animals Allowed: Inverted — Mrs. Stone stops Dweeb from entering the building without a dog.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Slimer disguises himself when entering Fred, but in disguise he still flies and his green face is still visible.
  • Pun: Rafael uses the term "catnip" to refer to Dweeb being nipped by Elizabeth while wearing a cat onesie.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Mrs. Stone calls Dweeb "pal" when blocking him.
  • Trapped the Wrong Target: Due to surprise and pain from a flea bite, Dweeb accidentally uses his machine to catch a big dog instead of Slimer.
  • Slapstick: Dweeb falls from the sky and lands into a cat onesie.
  • Stock Animal Diet: The dogs chase a steak.
