While private eye Karim Washington scours San Francisco for a missing teen who was involved in a cryptic game, OA wakes up in unfamiliar surroundings.Tropes present in this episode include:
- Alternate Universe: The OA wakes up in one. Here, she never went blind, grew up with her father in Russian, and has a boyfriend named Pierre Ruskin. When she calls Nancy via Skype, Nancy doesn't recognize her, since she and Abel instead adopted the baby boy they had originally planned to adopt. When she checks herself into a mental health clinic, she finds that Homer is a med student working there under Hap, and the rest of the NDE crew are patients. Also, Joe Biden is president.
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with the OA being confronted by Hap. He reveals that he recognizes her from the other universe, and she attacks him.
- Driven to Suicide: A young man who was addicted to the game jumps out of a window in front of Karim and Donald, a young boy who knew Michelle, while they were investigating the empty house Michelle would often visit.
- Fiction 500: In the alternate universe, Nina Azarova is a wealthy heiress with a fancy penthouse apartment.
- Harmful to Minors: Donald, the little boy who had been helping Karim find Michelle, witnesses one of the game's players committing suicide.
- Missing Child: An elderly woman comes to Karim begging him to find her missing teenage granddaughter, Michelle.
- Teen Genius: The missing teen, Michelle, is mentioned to have made it further than anyone else in solving the puzzle.
