Film: Jurassic World

Tagline: While it's still in theatres? But how? The Nostalgia Critic reviews 2015's box office smash, Jurassic World.

Because the studios keep taking down his YouTube uploads, and the Jurassic Park films in particular, the Critic decides to take revenge by re-enacting Jurassic World himself, allowing him to review it both without any copyright claims and while the film is still playing theatrically.

The Critic criticizes the film's use of CGI over practical effects and the characters for being two dimensional and making obvious mistakes, but praises the film's final action scene and the presentation of a working dinosaur theme park. The Critic concludes that Jurassic World is neither tense enough to be a suspense movie nor exciting enough to be a fun B-movie.

This review provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Paleontology:
    • Critic and Bailey both fall into the trap of calling the pterosaurs and the Mosasaurus "dinosaurs", neither of which actually were dinosaurs (pterosaurs are a separate but related type of animal, mosasaurs are giant aquatic lizards).
    • For once, however, Critic actually criticizes the film for its lack of scientific accuracy, pointing out that the first film's Dilophosaurus looked absolutely nothing like the real thing.
    • That being said, he also criticises The Reveal of the Indominus rex having raptor DNA as an obvious plot twist by claiming one reason for the obviousness is that it looks identical to a raptor, but bigger. Even regarding the movie's Velociraptors being different from their real life counterparts, a cursory glance at either of them will show this is not the case. For one thing the Indominus lacks the trademark "killing claw" found on the feet of dromeosaurs and the differences just continue from there.
    • His claim that Indominus rex just looks like a big raptor is clearly coming from the perspective of someone who only knows a couple popular dinosaurs. Indominus resembles carnosaurs like Giganotosaurus and Allosaurus, and doesn't really look like a raptor unless someone only knows about T. rex and Velociraptors.
  • The Cameo: Jon Bailey of Honest Trailers narrates the climax of the film. Additionally, the Nostalgia Critic appeared in Bailey's review of the film a few days earlier.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Critic's reaction in-universe to the revelation that the dinosaur that looks and acts like a giant-sized raptor (though, see above) is part raptor.
  • Clip Show: An inversion. This is the first Nostalgia Critic review not to predominantly use clips from the film being reviewed, the reason of which is explained in the beginning.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: The Critic calls Jurassic World the second best Jurassic Park film. By his own admission, that's not saying a lot.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": That Guy with the Glasses converses with Puppy the puppy while explaining why he's doing a review of JW while the movie is still on theaters.
  • Hypocrite: Upon discovering that Hollywood, who had been suppressing Nostalgia Critic's freedom of speech, were themselves getting their freedom of speech suppressed with the controversy involved in The Interview, Puppy the puppy gives a comedic "You're kidding right? I mean, don't they know the meaning of 'Irony'?".
  • Running Gag: The "T-Rex Song" gets used again after "killed" with the T-Rex in the Jurassic Park III review, this time with a Triumphant Reprise.
  • Shout-Out: The Critic's reenactment of the "Pterodactyl Attack" bears a very strong resemblance to Birdemic.
  • So Okay, It's Average: In-universe, this is the Critic's ultimate view on the movie. He also confesses that while he doesn't like the film too much, he can see why others do. He admits that the climax is so awesome that it single-handedly saves the movie.
  • Squee: The Critic has a massive one over the climax.
  • Strangled by the Red String: The Critic's in-universe opinion of Owen and Claire's romance.
Critic: I'm not going to act like the chemistry in first film was great, but at least they talk, and hug, and smile and shit. Here, they barely even look at each other.
  • Stylistic Suck: ALL of the skits. Between little toy raptors bouncing around, toy Pteranodons dangling from strings and a Mosasaurus hand puppet, it's as hilarious as it is strangely adorable.
  • Triumphant Reprise: The "T-Rex Song" gets an absolutely epic one.

I think it's part raptor!
