Film: Eight Crazy Nights

This review contains examples of:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The Critic begins his review stating that it must be hard being Jewish, not just because of their long history of persecution or stereotyping, but also due to the fact that a movie featuring one of their holidays had to be produced by Adam Sandler, a man the Critic actually considers to be talented but for some reason kept making crappy movie after crappy movie.
  • Awesome Art: Invoked by the Critic, who claims the animation was "too good" for the type of movie it's in, as the more fluid animation doesn't fit with the crude tone of the film, especially when compared to Sandler CGI movies like Hotel Transylvania (which he actually considers a far superior work).
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: The Critic's apparent reaction to Sandler over the phone admitting he also voiced Whitey.
  • Manipulative Editing: During the "Bum Biddy" song, the Critic complains about Davey singing, "...but he never quit on me..." when Whitey did quit on him. He actually dubs over the scene that has Davey singing, "...till I told him he was useless and his sister was freaky".
  • Mood Whiplash: Critic says that Davey's sad backstory about his parents dying in a car accident doesn't belong in so crass a comedy as Eight Crazy Nights.
  • Overly Long Gag: The Critic's phone call to Adam Sandler regarding Whitey's voice. In his Real Thoughts video about the movie, Doug acknowledges that it went too long but only because he was looking for catharsis after watching the film.
  • Product Placement: The Critic finds the film's use of this trope far worse than Man of Steel, so much so he even apologizes for criticizing the latter film about this.
  • Running Gag: A group of Happy Madison fans idiotically giggling at poop jokes, who annoy Critic so badly that he kills them with a grenade. They appear one more time afterward laughing from heaven.
  • Shout-Out: The Critic makes contrasting comparisons between this film and other Christmas movies. Where George Bailey rediscovers life, there's Davey licking a car; where Ebenezer Scrooge becomes a giving gentleman, there's deer eating shit; where Charlie Brown learns the value of love, there's a Rob Schneider character more offensive than I.Y. Yunioshi.
  • Take That!: He lambasts Sandler's efforts at comedy, and at one point mockingly declares his later film Jack and Jill to be "shit".
  • Tempting Fate
Critic: I have just seen the absolute worst holiday special I have ever witnessed in my entire life!
Caption: One Even Worse Coming Christmas Eve
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: In-Universe; the Critic views Davey as too unlikable to sympathize with even after the revelation that he hates the holiday season because his parents died on Hanukkah.

Technical foul! Technical foul!
