- Big Word Shout: During the Enterprise's exploration of the anomaly, the Critic begins desperately pleading the movie to cut to something, degenerating to repeated screaming of the word "CUT!" When he asks Angry Joe if there's a cut, Joe refuses to tell him, deciding to let him suffer from boredom instead, and the Critic goes back to screaming "CUT!"
- Crossover: With Angry Joe.
- Hypocritical Humor: During the boring, insubstantial anomaly exploration sequence, the Crtiic complains, "Good God, this is just watching a bunch of footage and then seeing somebody commenting on it. Who the hell'd wanna see that!?"
- Shout-Out: Angry Joe acts out Khan's taunt from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and the Critic responds with Kirk's Say My Name.
- What the Hell, Hero?: The Critic gets shocked by the fact that Kirk kills two crew members while fighting over working the teleporters.
