Film: Bébé's Kids (1992)

This review contains examples of:

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Invoked, and zig-zagged. When Jamika tells Robin that he's really good with the kids:
Critic: ...Really? Because he looks like an asshole to me! But... maybe I'm missing something. I mean, hell, maybe this is, like, a brand new way of parenting. This really clever subtle way that really shows how much love you can give. Maybe this way is going to totally change the way we look at parenting—
(clips from the movie showing Robin being a misanthropic jerk play)
Robin: I'm gonna beat the black off of you! (in another clip...) Don't fight fair. (another clip...) I'm gonna drop you like a bad habit! (another clip...) Knock the hell out of them kids! (final clip...) Test tube baby!
    Critic: Yeah, he's an asshole.
  • Call-Back: When the ticket taker reads off the list of rules for the park, the Critic remarks that there are no rules against bevis or vibes, a reference to the Bebe's Kids video game review.
  • The Cameo: Linkara, Phelous, Benzaie, and Angry Joe make cameos when the Critic has trouble pronouncing Tone Lōc's name. Both times.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Discussed by the Critic, calling these sequences "music videos" and saying that these were where the majority of Big Lipped Alligator Moments probably come from.
  • Male Gaze: The Critic is briefly distracted by Jamika's ass during his discussion of "music videos" in movies.
  • Mistaken for Racist: The Critic quickly shoots this down when starting the review:
Critic: Well, sit back before I beat the black off of ya! It's a line from the movie!
  • Overly Long Gag: The Critic trying to pronounce Tone Lōc's name, eventually being interrupted by a certain clip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
  • Running Gag: "This has been another, Pointless Moment." He even has a count for it.
  • Spiritual Antithesis: According to the Critic's understanding, Bebe's Kids is the first animated film featuring an all African-American cast. He then goes on to say that The Princess and the Frog is the result of seventeen years in figuring out how to do it right.
  • invokedUncertain Audience: He accuses the film of having this problem given the confusing mix of adult and juvenile humor found all throughout.

"Test-tube baby!"
